We present some Pfaffian identities, which are completely different from the Plücker relations. As consequences we obtain a quadratic identity for the number of perfect matchings of plane graphs, which has a simpler form than the formula by Yan et al (Graphical condensation of plane graphs: a combinatorial approach, Theoret. Comput. Sci., to appear), and we also obtain some new determinant identities.

Pfaffian Formulas and Schur Q-Function Identities

We establish Pfaffian analogues of the Cauchy--Binet formula and the Ishikawa--Wakayama minor-summation formula. Each of these Pfaffian analogues expresses a sum of products of subpfaffians of two skew-symmetric matrices in terms of a single Pfaffian. By using these Pfaffian formulas we give new transparent proofs to several identities for Schur Q23 pa-functions.

Pfaffian and hafnian identities in shuffle algebras

Chen's lemma on iterated integrals implies that certain identities involving multiple integrals, such as the de Bruijn and Wick formulas, amount to combinatorial identities for Pfaffians and hafnians in shuffle algebras. We provide direct algebraic proofs of such shuffle identities, and obtain various generalizations. We also discuss some Pfaffian identities due to Sundquist and Ishikawa-Wakayama, and a Cauchy formula for anticommutative symmetric functions. Finally, we extend some of the previous considerations to hyperpfaffians and hyperhafnians.

Identities for Schur-type determinants and pfaffians

We give a simple formula for some determinants, and an analogous formula for pfaffians, both of which are polynomial identities. The second involve some expressions that interpolate between determinants and pfaffians. We give several tableau formulas for difference operators in Types A and C, as well as other operators that appear in the "enriched", or "back-stable" Schubert polynomials. There are also tableau formulas for the enriched Schubert polynomials for vexillary and $321$-avoiding permutations.

Determinantal and Pfaffian identities for ninth variation skew Schur functions and Q-functions

Recently Okada defined algebraically ninth variation skew Q-functions, in parallel to Macdonald's ninth variation skew Schur functions. Here we introduce a skew shifted tableaux definition of these ninth variation skew Q-functions, and prove by means of a non-intersecting lattice path model a Pfaffian outside decomposition result in the form of a ninth variation version of Hamel's Pfaffian outside decomposition identity. Graphical condensation, overlapping Pfaffians and superpositions of matchings

The purpose of this note is to exhibit clearly how the "graphical condensation" identities of Kuo, Yan, Yeh and Zhang follow from classical Pfaffian identities by the Kasteleyn-Percus method for the enumeration of matchings. Knuth termed the relevant identities "overlapping Pfaffian" identities and the key concept of proof "superpositions of matchings". Graphical Condensation Generalizations Involving Pfaffians and Determinants

Graphical condensation is a technique used to prove combinatorial identities among numbers of perfect matchings of plane graphs. Propp and Kuo first applied this technique to prove identities for bipartite graphs. Yan, Yeh, and Zhang later applied graphical condensation to nonbipartite graphs to prove more complex identities. Applications of Minor Summation Formula III, Plucker Relations, Lattice Paths and Pfaffian Identities

The initial purpose of this paper is to provide a combinatorial proof of the minor summation formula of Pfaffians based on the lattice path method. There we related Plücker relations with the minor summation formula of Pfaffians to simplify its proof by lattice paths. Generalized Sylvester Formulas and skew Giambelli Identities

We obtain a common generalization of two types of Sylvester formulas for compound determinants and its Pfaffian analogue. As applications, we give generalizations of the Giambelli identity to skew Schur functions and the Schur identity to Schur's skew $Q$-functions.

Algebraic/combinatorial proofs of Cayley-type identities for derivatives of determinants and pfaffians

The classic Cayley identity states that \det(\partial) (\det X)^s = s(s+1)...(s+n-1) (\det X)^{s-1} where X=(x_{ij}) is an n-by-n matrix of indeterminates and \partial=(\partial/\partial x_{ij}) is the corresponding matrix of partial derivatives. On refined enumerations of totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions I

In this paper we give Pfaffian expressions and constant term identities for the enumeration problems presented by Mills, Robbins and Rumsey (``Self-complementary totally symmetric plane partitions'' J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 42, 277--292), concerning the totally symmetric self-complementary plane partitions (TSSCPPs). We also present some new conjectures and give Pfaffian expressions for them.
