An operator theoretic approach to invariant integration theory on non-compact quantum spaces is introduced on the example of the quantum (n,1)-matrix ball O_q(Mat_{n,1}). We prove that the Pauli representation of the quantum permutation algebra $A_s(4)$ is faithful. This provides the second known model for a free quantum algebra. We study the topological structure of the automorphism groups of compact quantum groups showing that, in parallel to a classical result due to Iwasawa, the connected component of identity of the automorphism group and of the "inner" automorphism group coincide. Bornological quantum groups were introduced by Voigt in order to generalize the theory of algebraic quantum groups in the sense of van Daele. In particular the class of bornological quantum groups contains all classical locally compact groups. In this paper we prove that a bornological quantum group gives rise to a locally compact quantum group, in a similar way to Kustermans and van Daele's result for algebraic quantum groups. We study actions of compact quantum groups on type I factors, which may be interpreted as projective representations of compact quantum groups. We generalize to this setting some of Woronowicz' results concerning Peter-Weyl theory for compact quantum groups.
