Seifert surfaces in open books, and a new coding algorithm for links

We introduce a new standard form of a Seifert surface $F$. In that standard form, $F$ is obtained by successively plumbing flat annuli to a disk $D$, where the gluing regions are all in $D$. We show that any link has a Seifert surface in the standard form, and thereby present a new way of coding a link. We present an algorithm to read the code directly from a braid presentation.

Explicit horizontal open books on some Seifert fibered 3--manifolds

We describe explicit horizontal open books on some Seifert fibered 3--manifolds. We show that the contact structures compatible with these horizontal open books are Stein fillable and horizontal as well. Moreover we draw surgery diagrams for some of these contact structures.

Seifert surfaces in open books, and pass moves on links

The flat plumbing basket presentation of a link is introduced by Furihata, Hirasawa and Kobayashi. In this paper, we show that the pass-equivalence and an equivalence introduced by using the flat plumbing basket presentation are the same relation. Furthermore, we obtain an evaluation of the minimal number of bands used for the flat pluming basket presentation for a knot coming from the degree of the Alexander polynomial and the three genus of the knot.

The Self-Linking Number in Planar Open Book Decompositions

We construct a Seifert surface for a given null-homologous transverse link in a contact manifold that is compatible with a planar open book decomposition, then obtain a formula of the self-linking number. It extends Bennequin's self-linking number formula for braids in the standard contact 3-sphere.

Monodromy factorizations of Seifert fibered spaces

We present relations in the mapping class monoid of $S_{0,0}^n$ between products of boundary parallel twists and those involving only non boundary parallel twists. These are of particular interest because each element gives an open book decomposition of a contact 3-manifold, and different factorizations of the same mapping class give potentially distinct symplectic fillings with diffeomorphic boundaries. Explicit horizontal open books on some plumbings

We describe explicit open books on arbitrary plumbings of oriented circle bundles over closed oriented surfaces. We show that, for a non-positive plumbing, the open book we construct is horizontal and the corresponding compatible contact structure is also horizontal and Stein fillable. Flat plumbing basket and contact structure

A flat plumbing basket is a Seifert surface consisting of a disk and bands contained in distinct pages of the disk open book decomposition of the 3-sphere. In this paper, we examine close connections between flat plumbing baskets and the contact structure supported by the open book. As an application we give lower bounds for the flat plumbing basket numbers and determine the flat plumbing basket numbers for various knots and links, including the torus links.

Open book decompositions of $\mathbb{S}^{5}$ and real singularities

In this article, we study the topology of the family of real analytic germs $F \colon (\mathbb{C}^3,0) \to (\mathbb{C},0)$ given by $F(x,y,z)=\bar{xy}(x^p+y^q)+z^r$ with $p,q,r \in \mathbb{N}$, $p,q,r \geq 2$ and $(p,q)=1$. Such a germ has isolated singularity at 0 and gives rise to a Milnor fibration $\frac{F}{|F|} \colon \mathbb{S}^{5} \setminus L_F \to \mathbb{S}^{1}$. Surface singularities and planar contact structures

We prove that if a contact 3-manifold admits an open book decomposition of genus 0, a certain intersection pattern cannot appear in the homology of any of its minimal symplectic fillings, and moreover, fillings cannot contain symplectic surfaces of positive genus.
