In this paper we introduce a general type of differential equations with piecewise constant argument (EPCAG), and consider the problem of backward continuation of solutions. We establish the existence of global integral manifolds of quasilinear EPCAG, consisting of infinitely back continued solutions, while the solutions starting outside the invariant sets may not be back continued. The smoothness of the manifolds is investigated. The existence of bounded and periodic solutions is considered. A new technique of investigation of equations with piecewise argument, based on an integral representation formula, is proposed.
We consider a new model for shunting inhibitory cellular neural networks, retarded functional differential equations with piecewise constant argument. The existence and exponential stability of almost periodic solutions are investigated. An illustrative example is provided.
We consider existence and stability of an almost periodic solution of the quasilinear system of differential equations with piecewise constant argument of generalized type. The associated linear homogeneous system satisfies exponential dichotomy. The deviations of the argument are not restricted by any sign assumption when existence is considered. The problem of positive (almost periodic) solutions of the logistic equation is discussed as an example. A new technique of investigation of equations with piecewise argument, based on integral representation, is developed.
This work deals with the existence of an almost periodic solution for certain kind of differential equations with generalized piecewise constant argument, almost periodic coefficients which are seen as a perturbation of a linear equation of that kind satisfying an exponential dichotomy on a difference equation. The stability of that solution in a semi-axis studied.
On existence, uniqueness and numerical approximation of impulsive differential equations with adaptive state-dependent delays using equations with piecewise-constant arguments
In this paper, we introduce some concepts of square-mean S-asymptotically $ω$-periodic stochastic processes. Using the stochastic analysis method and the Banach contraction mapping principle, we establish the existence and uniqueness results of the mild solution and the square-mean S-asymptotically $ω$-periodic solution for a semilinear nonautonomous stochastic fractional evolution equation driven by Lévy noise.
In this paper we introduce a new type of differential equations with piecewise constant argument (EPCAG), more general than EPCA. The Reduction Principle is proved for EPCAG. The structure of the set of solutions is specified. We establish also the existence of global integral manifolds of quasilinear EPCAG in the so called critical case and investigate the stability of the zero solution.
In this paper, we extend the slow divergence-integral from slow-fast systems, due to De Maesschalck, Dumortier and Roussarie, to smooth systems that limit onto piecewise smooth ones as $ε\rightarrow 0$. In slow-fast systems, the slow divergence-integral is an integral of the divergence along a canard cycle with respect to the slow time and it has proven very useful in obtaining good lower and upper bounds of limit cycles in planar polynomial systems. In this paper, our slow divergence-integral is based upon integration along a generalized canard cycle for a piecewise smooth two-fold bifurcatio…

In this text matrix Volterra integral equation of the first kind is addressed. It is assumed that kernels of the equation have jump discontinuities on non-intersecting curves. Such equations appear in the theory of evolving dynamic systems. Differentiation of such equations with jump discontinue kernels yields the new class of the Volterra integral equations with functionally perturbed argument. The algorithm for construction of the logarithmic power asymptotics of the desired continuous solutions is proposed. The theorem of existance of the parametric families of solutions is proved. Finally …
In this paper, we consider a model of impulsive recurrent neural networks with piecewise constant delay. The dynamics are presented by differential equations with discontinuities such as impulses at fixed moments and piecewise constant argument of generalized type. Sufficient conditions ensuring the existence, uniqueness and global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium point are obtained. By employing Green's function we derive new result of existence of the periodic solution. The global asymptotic stability of the solution is investigated. Examples with numerical simulations are given to va…
The existence of a uniform upper bound for the maximum number of limit cycles of planar piecewise linear differential systems with two zones separated by a straight line has been subject of interest of hundreds of papers. After more than 30 years of investigation since Lum-Chua's work, it has remained an open question whether this uniform upper bound exists or not. Here, we give a positive answer for this question by establishing the existence of a natural number $L^*\leq 8$ for which any planar piecewise linear differential system with two zones separated by a straight line has no more than $…
In this paper, we study limit cycle bifurcations for a class of general near-Hamiltonian systems near a heteroclinic loop with an elementary saddle and a nilpotent saddle. Firstly, we consider the behaviors of the unperturbed system, providing the phase portraits of the system and the necessary conditions for the appearance of a heteroclinic loop with an elementary saddle and a nilpotent saddle by using the relevant qualitative theory. Then, with consideration of the expression of the first-order Melnikov function, we derive its expansion near the heteroclinic loop by employing some techniques…
We provide sufficient conditions for vector-valued Fredholm integral operators and their commonly used spatial discretizations to be positive in terms of an order relation induced by a corresponding order cone. It turns out that reasonable Nyström methods preserve positivity. Among the projection methods, persistence is obtained for the simplest ones based on polynomial, piecewise linear or specific cubic interpolation (collocation), as well as for piecewise constant basis functions in a Bubnov-Galerkin approach. However, for semi-discretizations using quadratic splines or $\sinc$-collocation …
We develop a path integral framework for determining most probable paths in a class of systems of stochastic differential equations with piecewise-smooth drift and additive noise. This approach extends the Freidlin-Wentzell theory of large deviations to cases where the system is piecewise-smooth and may be non-autonomous. In particular, we consider an $n-$dimensional system with a switching manifold in the drift that forms an $(n-1)-$dimensional hyperplane and investigate noise-induced transitions between metastable states on either side of the switching manifold. To do this, we mollify the dr…
