This paper is a continuation of our investigation of the case K>1. For the sake of simplicity we consider K=2, but our argument applies to the general situation. In this second paper we apply the variational approach to the study of the point spectrum.

Smilansky's model of irreversible quantum graphs, I: the absolutely continuous spectrum

In the model suggested by Smilansky one studies an operator describing the interaction between a quantum graph and a system of $K$ one-dimensional oscillators attached at several different points in the graph. The present paper is the first one in which the case $K>1$ is investigated. For the sake of simplicity we consider K=2, but our argument is of a general character. In this first of two papers on the problem, we describe the absolutely continuous spectrum. Our approach is based upon scattering theory.

Spectral and resonance properties of Smilansky Hamiltonian

We analyze the Hamiltonian proposed by Smilansky to describe irreversible dynamics in quantum graphs and studied further by Solomyak and others. We derive a weak-coupling asymptotics of the ground state and add new insights by finding the discrete spectrum numerically. Furthermore, we show that the model has a rich resonance structure.

Smilansky-Solomyak model with a $δ'$-interaction

We investigate a strongly singular version of the model of irreversible dynamics proposed by Smilansky and Solomyak in which the interaction responsible for an abrupt change of the spectrum is of $δ'$ type. We determine the spectrum in both the subcritical and supercritical regimes and discuss its character as well as its asymptotic properties of the discrete spectrum in terms of the coupling constant.

On the absolutely continuous spectrum in a model of irreversible quantum graph

A family $A_α$ of differential operators depending on a real parameter $α\ge 0$ is considered. This family was suggested by Smilansky as a model of an irreversible quantum system. We find the absolutely continuous spectrum $σ_{a.c.}$ of the operator $A_α$ and its multiplicity for all values of the parameter. The spectrum of $A_0$ is purely a.c. and admits an explicit description. It turns out that for $α<\sqrt 2$ one has $σ_{a.c.}(A_α)= σ_{a.c.}(A_0)$, including the multiplicity. A regular analogue of the Smilansky model: spectral properties

We analyze spectral properties of the operator $H=\frac{\partial^2}{\partial x^2} -\frac{\partial^2}{\partial y^2} +ω^2y^2-λy^2V(x y)$ in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$, where $ω\ne 0$ and $V\ge 0$ is a compactly supported and sufficiently regular potential. It is known that the spectrum of $H$ depends on the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator $L=-\frac{\mathrm{d}^2}{\mathrm{d}x^2}+ω^2-λV(x)$ and it changes substantially as $\infσ(L)$ switches sign. A magnetic version of the Smilansky-Solomyak model
