This is the first of a series of articles in which we are going to study the regularized determinants of the Laplacians of Calabi Yau metrics acting on (0,q) forms on the moduli space of CY manifolds with a fixed polarization. It is well known that in case of the elliptic curves the Kronecker limit formula gives an explicit formula for the regularized determinants of the flat metrics with fixed volume on the elliptic curves. The following formula holds in this case; the regularized determinant is the product of the imaginary part of the complex number in the Siegel upper half plane with the Dedekind eta function. It is well known fact that the Dedekind eta function in power 24 is a cusp automorphic form of weight 12 related to the discriminant of the elliptic curve. Thus we can view that the regularized determinant is the norm of a section of some power of the line bundle of the classes of cohomologies of (1,0) forms of the elliptic curves over its moduli space. Our purpose is to generalize this fact in the case of CY manifolds. In this paper we will establish the local analogue of the Kronecker limit formula for CY manifolds.
In this paper we construct the analogue of Dedekind eta-function on the moduli space of polarized CY manifolds. We prove that the L-two norm of eta is the regularized determinants of the Laplacians of the CY metric on (0,1) forms. We construct the analogue of the Baily-Borel Compactification of the moduli space of polarized CY and prove that it has the same properties as the Baily-Borel compactification of the locally symmetric Hermitian spaces. We proved that the compactification constructed in the paper is the minimal.
The Dedekind eta functions plays important role in different branches of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. One way to construct Dedekind Eta function to use the explicit formula (Kroncker limit formula) for the regularized determinants of the Laplacian of the flat metric acting of (0,1) forms on elliptic curves. The holomorphic part of the regularized determinant is the Dedekind eta functions. In this paper we generalized the above approach to the case of K3 surfaces. We give an explicit formula of the regularized determinants of the Laplacians of Calabi Yau metrics on K3 Surfaces, followin…
Inspired by the multiplicative nature of the Ramanujan modular discriminant, Delta, we consider physical realizations of certain multiplicative products over the Dedekind eta-function in two parallel directions: the generating function of BPS states in certain heterotic orbifolds and elliptic K3 surfaces associated to congruence subgroups of the modular group. We show that they are, after string duality to type II, the same K3 surfaces admitting Nikulin automorphisms. In due course, we will present some identities arising from q-expansions as well as relations to the sporadic Mathieu group M24…
In this paper we construct the analogue of Dedekind eta function for odd dimensional CY manifolds. We use the theory of determinant line bundles. We constructed a canonical holomorphic section $η^{N}$ of some power of the determinant line bundle on the moduli space of odd dimensional CY manifolds. According to Viehweg the moduli space of moduli space of polarized odd dimensional CY manifolds $\mathcal{M}(M)$ is quasi projective. According to a Theorem due to Hironaka we can find a projective smooth variety $\bar {\mathcal{M}(M)}$ such that $\bar{\mathcal{M}(M)}\backslash$ $\mathcal{M}(M)=\math…
In this paper we define multiple Dedekind zeta values (MDZV), using a new type of iterated integrals, called iterated integrals on a membrane. One should consider MDZV as a number theoretic generalization of Euler's multiple zeta values. Over imaginary quadratic fields MDZV capture, in particular, multiple Eisenstein series (Gangl, Kaneko and Zagier). We give an analogue of multiple Eisenstein series over real quadratic field and an alternative definition of values of multiple Eisenstein-Kronecker series (Goncharov). Each of them is a special case of multiple Dedekind zeta values. MDZV are int…
We prove an equivariant Grothendieck-Ogg-Shafarevich formula. This formula may be viewed as an étale analogue of well-known formulas for Zariski sheaves generalizing the classical Chevalley-Weil formula. We give a new approach to those formulas (first proved by Ellingsrud/Lønsted, Nakajima, Kani and Ksir) which can also be applied in the étale case.
We use Young's raising operators to introduce and study double eta polynomials, which are an even orthogonal analogue of Wilson's double theta polynomials. Our double eta polynomials give Giambelli formulas which represent the equivariant Schubert classes in the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of even orthogonal Grassmannians, and specialize to the single eta polynomials of Buch, Kresch, and the author.
We prove the transformation formula of Donaldson-Thomas (DT) invariants counting two dimensional torsion sheaves on Calabi-Yau 3-folds under flops. The error term is described by the Dedekind eta function and the Jacobi theta function, and our result gives evidence of a 3-fold version of Vafa-Witten's S-duality conjecture. As an application, we prove a blow-up formula of DT type invariants on the total spaces of canonical line bundles on smooth projective surfaces. It gives an analogue of the similar blow-up formula in the original S-duality conjecture by Yoshioka, Li-Qin and Göttsche.
Let $U$ be an affine smooth curve defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. The Abhyankar Conjecture (proved by Raynaud and Harbater in 1994) describes the set of finite quotients of Grothendieck's étale fundamental group of $U$. In this paper, we consider a purely inseparable analogue of this problem, formulated in terms of Nori's profinite fundamental group scheme, and give a partial answer to it.
The classical Schur polynomials form a natural basis for the ring of symmetric polynomials, and have geometric significance since they represent the Schubert classes in the cohomology ring of Grassmannians. Moreover, these polynomials enjoy rich combinatorial properties. In the last decade, an exact analogue of this picture has emerged in the symplectic and orthogonal Lie types, with the Schur polynomials replaced by the theta and eta polynomials of Buch, Kresch, and the author. This expository paper gives an overview of what is known to date about this correspondence, with examples.
The ordinariness of elliptic curves is essential in proving various expected properties of elliptic curves in positive characteristic and can be extended to algebraic curves of arbitrary genus. The present paper deals with another kind of extension, i.e., ordinariness of dormant $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-opers, or more generally, dormant $\mathfrak{sl}_n$-opers. We prove that, for dormant $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-opers on elliptic curves, this notion is essentially equivalent to the classical ordinariness. Moreover, the main result of the present paper asserts that the pull-back of an ordinary dormant $\math…
We review the role played by tau functions of special type - called {\it Bergman} tau functions in various areas: theory of isomonodromic deformations, solutions of Einstein's equations, theory of Dubrovin-Frobenius manifolds, geometry of moduli spaces and spectral theory of Riemann surfaces. These tau functions are natural generalizations of Dedekind's eta-function to higher genus. Study of their properties allows to get an explicit form of Einstein's metrics, obtain new relations in Picard groups of various moduli spaces and derive holomorphic factorization formulas of determinants of Laplac…
Given an elliptic fibration $f \colon X \to S$ over the spectrum of a complete discrete valuation ring with algebraically closed residue field, we use a Hochschild--Serre spectral sequence to express the torsion in $R^1f_\ast \mathscr{O}_X$ as the first group cohomology $H^1(G,H^0(S^\prime, \mathscr{O}_{S^\prime}))$. Here, $G$ is the Galois group of the maximal extension $K^\prime / K$ such that the normalization of $X \times_S S^\prime$ induces an étale covering of $X$, where $S^\prime$ is the normalization of $S$ in $K^\prime$. The case where $S$ is a Dedekind scheme is easily reduced to the…
These notes are a part of my lectures on representations of adelic groups attached to two-dimensional schemes. They contain a study of the one-dimensional case as a preliminary step to the case of dimension two. We consider the following issues: the Tate--Iwasawa method for algebraic curves; a discrete version and holomorphic duality; the Poisson formula and residues; explicit formulas; relation with the Artin representation; analogues for the number fields. With appendix on the Dedekind zeta-functions by Irina Rezvjakova.
In his celebrated 1998 Inventiones paper, Borcherds constructed meromorphic automorphic forms Psi(F) for arithmetic subgroups associated to even integral lattices M of signature (n,2). The input to his construction is a vector valued weakly holomorphic modular form F of weight 1 - n/2, and the resulting Borcherds form has an explicit divisor on the arithmetic quotient X = Gamma_M\ D. Most remarkably, in the neighborhood of each cusp (= rational point boundary component), there is a beautiful product formula for Psi(F), reminiscent of the classical product formula for the Dedekind eta-function.…
