Fields of definition for division algebras

Let $A$ be a finite-dimensional division algebra containing a base field $k$ in its center $F$. We say that $A$ is defined over a subfield $F_0$ of $F$ if $A = A_0\otimes_{F_0} F$ for some $F_0$-subalgebra $A_0$ of $A$. We show that: (1) In many cases $A$ can be defined over a rational extension of $k$. (2) If $A$ has odd degree $n \ge 5$, then $A$ is defined over a field $F_0$ of transcendence degree at most $(n-1)(n-2)/2$ over $k$. Extended centres of finitely generated prime algebras

Let $K$ be a field and let $A$ be a finitely generated prime $K$-algebra. We generalize a result of Smith and Zhang, showing that if $A$ is not PI and does not have a locally nilpotent ideal, then the extended centre of $A$ has transcendence degree at most ${\rm GKdim}(A)-2$ over $K$. As a consequence, we are able to show that if $A$ is a prime $K$-algebra of quadratic growth, then either the extended centre is a finite extension of K or $A$ is PI. For central simple finitely generated algebras of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and for their division algebras upper bounds are obtained for the transcendence degree of their commutative subalgebras and subfields respectively. In the formulae for the upper bounds are used only two dimensions of the algebras: the Gelfand-Kirillov and the filter dimension. In the case of the ring of differential operators on a smooth irreducible affine algebraic variety the upper bounds are the exact upper bounds. Filtrations and Homological degrees of FI-modules

Let $k$ be a commutative Noetherian ring. In this paper we consider filtered modules of the category FI firstly introduced by Nagpal. We show that a finitely generated FI-module $V$ is filtered if and only if its higher homologies all vanish, and if and only if a certain homology vanishes. Using this homological characterization, we characterize finitely generated FI-modules $V$ whose projective dimension is finite, and describe an upper bound for it. Homological degrees of representations of categories with shift functors

Let $k$ be a commutative Noetherian ring and $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ be a locally finite $k$-linear category equipped with a self-embedding functor of degree 1. We show under a moderate condition that finitely generated torsion representations of $\underline{\mathscr{C}}$ are super finitely presented (that is, they have projective resolutions each term of which is finitely generated). Upper bounds of homological invariants of $FI_G$-modules

In this paper we use a homological approach to obtain upper bounds for a few homological invariants of $FI_G$-modules $V$. These upper bounds are expressed in terms of the generating degree and torsion degree, which measure the top and socle of $V$ under actions of non-invertible morphisms in the category respectively.

Mixed characteristic homological theorems in low degrees

Let R be a locally finitely generated algebra over a discrete valuation ring V of mixed characteristic. Vatne and Green & Marcos have independently studied the Koszul-like homological properties of graded algebras that have defining relations in degree 2 and exactly one other degree. We contrast these two approaches, answer two questions posed by Green & Marcos, and find conditions that imply the corresponding Yoneda algebras are generated in the lowest possible degrees.

On the Derived Categories of Degree d Hypersurface Fibrations

We provide descriptions of the derived categories of degree $d$ hypersurface fibrations which generalize a result of Kuznetsov for quadric fibrations and give a relative version of a well-known theorem of Orlov. Using a local generator and Morita theory, we re-interpret the resulting matrix factorization category as a derived-equivalent sheaf of dg-algebras on the base.
