Modified Bernstein Polynomials and Jacobi Polynomials in q-Calculus

We introduce here a generalization of the modified Bernstein polynomials for Jacobi weights using the $q$-Bernstein basis proposed by G.M. Phillips to generalize classical Bernstein Polynomials. The function is evaluated at points which are in geometric progression in $]0,1[$. Numerous properties of the modified Bernstein Polynomials are extended to their $q$-analogues: simultaneous approximation, pointwise convergence even for unbounded functions, shape-preserving property, Voronovskaya theorem, self-adjointness. Some properties of the eigenvectors, which are $q$-extensions of Jacobi polynomials, are given.

Bounded perturbations of Bernstein functions of several operator variables

The paper deals with (multidimensional and one-dimensional) Bochner-Phillips functional calculus. Bounded perturbations of Bernstein functions of (one or several commuting) semigroup generators on Banach spaces are considered, conditions for Lipschitzness and Frechet-differentiability of such functions are obtained, estimates for the norm of commutators are proved, and a generalization of Livschits-Kre\uın trace formula derived.

Analytic scattering theory for Jacobi operators and Bernstein-Szegö asymptotics of orthogonal polynomials

We study semi-infinite Jacobi matrices $H=H_{0}+V$ corresponding to trace class perturbations $V$ of the "free" discrete Schrödinger operator $H_{0}$. Lifshitz-Krein trace formula for Hirsch functiuonal calculus on Banach spaces

We give a simple definition of a spectral shift function for pairs of nonpositive operators on Banach spaces and prove trace formulas of Lifshitz-Kre\uın type for a perturbation of an operator monotonic (negative complete Bernstein) function of negative and nonpositive operators on Banach spaces induced by nuclear perturbation of an operator argument. The Lipschitzness of such functions is also investigated. The results may be regarded as a contribution to a perturbation theory for Hirsch functional calculus.

Bernstein functions and rates in mean ergodic theorems for operator semigroups

We present a functional calculus approach to the study of rates of decay in mean ergodic theorems for bounded strongly continuous operator semigroups. A central role is played by operators of the form $g(A)$, where $-A$ is the generator of the semigroup and $g$ is a Bernstein function. The classical theory of calculus of variations for generalized functions

We present an extension of the classical theory of calculus of variations to generalized functions. The framework is the category of generalized smooth functions, which includes Schwartz distributions while sharing many nonlinear properties with ordinary smooth functions. We prove full connections between extremals and Euler-Lagrange equations, classical necessary and sufficient conditions to have a minimizer, the necessary Legendre condition, Jacobi's theorem on conjugate points and Noether's theorem. We close with an application to low regularity Riemannian geometry.
