Veech groups uniformize Teichmüller geodesic curves in Riemann moduli space. Recently, examples of infinitely generated Veech groups have been given. We show that these can even have infinitely many cusps and infinitely many infinite ends. We further show that examples exist for which each direction of an infinite end is the limit of directions of inequivalent infinite ends.

We prove the existence of Veech groups having a critical exponent strictly greater than any elementary Fuchsian group (i.e. $>\frac{1}{2}$) but strictly smaller than any lattice (i.e. $<1$). We show that every countable subgroup $G<\rm GL_+(2,\mathbb{R})$ without contracting elements is the Veech group of a tame translation surface $S$ of infinite genus, for infinitely many different topological types of $S$. Moreover, we prove that as long as every end has genus, there are no restrictions on the topological type of $S$ to realise all possible uncountable Veech groups.

Consider a connected orientable surface $S$ of infinite topological type, i.e. with infinitely-generated fundamental group. We describe the large-scale geometry of arbitrary connected subgraphs of the arc complex $A(S)$ and curve complex $C(S)$ of $S$, provided they are invariant under a sufficiently big subgroup of the mapping class group $Mod(S)$. We obtain a number of consequences; in particular we recover the main results of J. Bavard and Aramayona-Fossas-Parlier .

In the early 1980s, S. T. Yau conjectured that any compact Riemannian three-manifold admits an infinite number of closed immersed minimal surfaces. We use min-max theory for the area functional to prove this conjecture in the positive Ricci curvature setting. A simple surface amalgam is the union of a finite collection of surfaces with precisely one boundary component each and which have their boundary curves identified. We prove if two fundamental groups of simple surface amalgams act properly and cocompactly by isometries on the same proper geodesic metric space, then the groups are commensurable. Consequently, there are infinitely many fundamental groups of simple surface amalgams that are quasi-isometric, but which do not act properly and cocompactly on the same proper geodesic metric space.
We describe sufficient conditions which guarantee that a finite set of mapping classes generate a right-angled Artin group quasi-isometrically embedded in the mapping class group. Moreover, under these conditions, the orbit map to Teichmuller space is a quasi-isometric embedding for both of the standard metrics. As a consequence, we produce infinitely many genus h surfaces (for any h at least 2) in the moduli space of genus g surfaces (for any g at least 3) for which the universal covers are quasi-isometrically embedded in the Teichmuller space.
We investigate the geometry of the graphs of nonseparating curves for surfaces of finite positive genus with potentially infinitely many punctures. This graph has infinite diameter and is known to be Gromov hyperbolic by work of the author.
