Postnikov Invariants of Crossed Complexes

We determine the Postnikov Tower and Postnikov Invariants of a Crossed Complex in a purely algebraic way. Using the fact that Crossed Complexes are homotopy types for filtered spaces, we use the above "algebraically defined" Postnikov Tower and Postnikov Invariants to obtain from them those of filtered spaces. We argue that a similar "purely algebraic" approach to Postnikov Invariants may also be used in other categories of spaces.

Exact sequences of fibrations of crossed complexes, homotopy classification of maps, and nonabelian extensions of groups

The classifying space of a crossed complex generalises the construction of Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces. We show how the theory of fibrations of crossed complexes allows the analysis of homotopy classes of maps from a free crossed complex to such a classifying space. This gives results on the homotopy classification of maps from a CW-complex to the classifying space of a crossed module and also, more generally, of a crossed complex whose homotopy groups vanish in dimensions between 1 and n. The results are analogous to those for the obstruction to an abstract kernel in group extension theory.

Spaces of maps into classifying spaces for equivariant crossed complexes, II: The general topological group case

The results of a previous paper on the equivariant homotopy theory of crossed complexes are generalised from the case of a discrete group to general topological groups. The principal new ingredient necessary for this is an analysis of homotopy coherence theory for crossed complexes, using detailed results on the appropriate Eilenberg-Zilber theory from Tonks' thesis, and of its relation to simplicial homotopy coherence. Crossed complexes and homotopy groupoids as non commutative tools for higher dimensional local-to-global problems

We outline the main features of the definitions and applications of crossed complexes and cubical $ω$-groupoids with connections. These give forms of higher homotopy groupoids, and new views of basic algebraic topology and the cohomology of groups, with the ability to obtain some non commutative results and compute some homotopy types.

Normalisation for the fundamental crossed complex of a simplicial set

Crossed complexes are shown to have an algebra sufficiently rich to model the geometric inductive definition of simplices, and so to give a purely algebraic proof of the Homotopy Addition Lemma (HAL) for the boundary of a simplex. This leads to the {\it fundamental crossed complex} of a simplicial set. Freeness conditions for crossed squares and squared complexes

Following Ellis, we investigate the notion of totally free crossed squares and related square complexes. It is shown how to interpret the information in a free simplicial group given with a choice of CW-basis, in terms of the data for a totally free crossed square. Results of Ellis then apply to give a description in terms of tensor products of crossed modules. The paper ends with a purely algebraic derivation of a result of Brown and Loday.

Cubical abelian groups with connections are equivalent to chain complexes

The theorem of the title is deduced from the equivalence between crossed complexes and cubical $ω$-groupoids with connections proved by the authors in 1981. In fact we prove the equivalence of five categories defined internally to an additive category with kernels.

Categorifying the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov Connection

In the context of higher gauge theory, we construct a flat and fake flat 2-connection, in the configuration space of $n$ particles in the complex plane, categorifying the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection.
