The Wythoff construction takes a $d$-dimensional polytope $P$, a subset $S$ of $\{0,..., d\}$ and returns another $d$-dimensional polytope $P(S)$. If $P$ is a regular polytope, then $P(S)$ is vertex-transitive. This construction builds a large part of the Archimedean polytopes and tilings in dimension 3 and 4.
We want to determine, which of those Wythoffians $P(S)$ with regular $P$ have their skeleton or dual skeleton isometrically embeddable into the hypercubes $H_m$ and half-cubes ${1/2}H_m$. We find six infinite series, which, we conjecture, cover all cases for dimension $d>5$ and some sporadic cases in dimension 3 and 4 (see Tables \ref{WythoffEmbeddable3} and \ref{WythoffEmbeddable4}).
Three out of those six infinite series are explained by a general result about the embedding of Wythoff construction for Coxeter groups. In the last section, we consider the Euclidean case; also, zonotopality of embeddable $P(S)$ are addressed throughout the text.
A Hamiltonian embedding is an embedding of a graph $G$ such that the boundary of each face is a Hamiltonian cycle of $G$. It is shown that the hypercube graph $Q_n$ admits such an embedding on an orientable surface when $n$ is a power of 2. Basic necessary conditions on Hamiltonian embeddings for $Q_n$ and conjectures are made about other values of $n$.
Though embedding problems have been considered for several regular graphs, it is still an open problem for hypercube into torus. In the paper, we prove the conjecture mathematically and obtain the minimum wirelength of embedding for hypercube into Cartesian product of paths and/or cycles. In addition, we explain that Gray code embedding is an optimal strategy in such embedding problems.
We study the problem of Embedding Wirelength of $n$-dimensional Hypercube $Q_n$ into Cylinder $C_{2^{n_1}}\times P_{2^{n_2}}$, where $n_1+ n_2=n$, called EWHC. We show that such wirelength corresponding to Gray code embedding is $2^{n_2}(3\cdot 2^{2n_1-3}-2^{n_1-1})+2^{n_1} (2^{2n_2-1}-2^{n_2-1})$. In addition, we prove that Gray code embedding is an optimal strategy of EWHC.
We address various topologies (de Bruijn, chordal ring, generalized Petersen, meshes) in various ways ( isometric embedding, embedding up to scale, embedding up to a distance) in a hypercube or a half-hypercube. Example of obtained embeddings: infinite series of hypercube embeddable Bubble Sort and Double Chordal Rings topologies, as well as of regular maps.
Interconnection networks provide an effective mechanism for exchanging data between processors in a parallel computing system. One of the most efficient interconnection networks is the hypercube due to its structural regularity, potential for parallel computation of various algorithms, and the high degree of fault tolerance. Thus it becomes the first choice of topological structure of parallel processing and computing systems. In this paper, lower bounds for the dilation, wirelength, and edge congestion of an embedding of a graph into a hypercube are proved. Two of these bounds are expressed i…
A long-standing conjecture on spanning trees of a hypercube states that a balanced tree on $2^n$ vertices with maximum degree at most $3$ spans the hypercube of dimension $n$ \cite{havel1986}. In this paper, we settle the conjecture for a special family of binary trees. A $0$-caterpillar is a path. For $k\geq 1$, a $k$-caterpillar is a binary tree consisting of a path with $j$-caterpillars $(0\leq j\leq k-1)$ emanating from some of the vertices on the path. A $k$-caterpillar that contains a perfect matching is said to be perfectly balanced. In this paper, we show that a perfectly balanced $2$-…
The twisted hypercube-like networks($THLNs$) contain several important hypercube variants. This paper is concerned with the fault-tolerant path-embedding of $n$-dimensional($n$-$D$) $THLNs$. Let $G_n$ be an $n$-$D$ $THLN$ and $F$ be a subset of $V(G_n)\cup E(G_n)$ with $|F|\leq n-2$. We show that for arbitrary two different correct vertices $u$ and $v$, there is a faultless path $P_{uv}$ of every length $l$ with $2^{n-1}-1\leq l\leq 2^n-f_v-1-α$, where $α=0$ if vertices $u$ and $v$ form a normal vertex-pair and $α=1$ if vertices $u$ and $v$ form a weak vertex-pair in $G_n-F$($n\geq5$).
We show improved monotonicity testers for the Boolean hypercube under the $p$-biased measure, as well as over the hypergrid $[m]^n$. Our results are: 1. For any $p\in (0,1)$, for the $p$-biased hypercube we show a non-adaptive tester that makes $\tilde{O}(\sqrt{n}/\varepsilon^2)$ queries, accepts monotone functions with probability $1$ and rejects functions that are $\varepsilon$-far from monotone with probability at least $2/3$. 2. For all $m\in\mathbb{N}$, we show an $\tilde{O}(\sqrt{n}m^3/\varepsilon^2)$ query monotonicity tester over $[m]^n$. We also establish corresponding directed isoper…
For a set $X$ of binary words of length $h$ the daisy cube $Q_h(X)$ is defined as the subgraph of the hypercube $Q_h$ induced by the set of all vertices on shortest paths that connect vertices of $X$ with the vertex $0 ^h$. A vertex in the intersection of all of these paths is a minimal vertex of a daisy cube. A graph $G$ isomorphic to a daisy cube admits several isometric embeddings into a hypercube. We show that an isometric embedding is proper if and only if the label $0 ^h$ is assigned to a minimal vertex of $G$. This result allows us to devise an algorithm which finds a proper embedding o…
Let $G$ and $H$ be graphs, with $|V(H)|\geq |V(G)| $, and $f:V(G)\rightarrow V(H)$ a one to one map of their vertices. Let $dilation(f) = max\{ dist_{H}(f(x),f(y)): xy\in E(G) \}$, where $dist_{H}(v,w)$ is the distance between vertices $v$ and $w$ of $H$. Now let $B(G,H)$ = $min_{f}\{ dilation(f) \}$, over all such maps $f$. The parameter $B(G,H)$ is a generalization of the classic and well studied "bandwidth" of $G$, defined as $B(G,P(n))$, where $P(n)$ is the path on $n$ points and $n = |V(G)|$. Let $[a_{1}\times a_{2}\times \cdots \times a_{k} ]$ be the $k$-dimensional grid graph with integ…
We study embeddings of the $n$-dimensional hypercube into the circuit with $2^n$ vertices. We prove that the circular wirelength attains minimum by gray coding, which is called the CT conjecture by Chavez and Trapp (Discrete Applied Mathematics, 1998). This problem had claimed to be settled by Ching-Jung Guu in her doctor dissertation "The circular wirelength problem for hypercubes" (University of California, Riverside, 1997). Many people argue there are gaps in her proof. We eliminate gaps in her dissertation.
A perfect matching reciprocity method for embedding multiple hypercubes in an augmented cube: Applications to Hamiltonian decomposition and fault-tolerant Hamiltonicity
Daisy cubes are a recently introduced class of isometric subgraphs of hypercubes $Q_n$. They are induced with intervals between chosen vertices of $Q_n$ and the vertex $0^n\in V(Q_n)$. In this paper we characterize daisy cubes in terms of an expansion procedure thus answering an open problem proposed by Klavžar and Mollard, 2018, in the introductory paper of daisy cubes \cite{KlaMol-18}. To obtain such a characterization several interesting properties of daisy cubes are presented. For a given graph $G$ isomorphic to a daisy cube, but without the corresponding embedding into a hypercube, we pre…
Bowlin and Brin defined the class of color graphs, whose vertices are triangulated polygons compatible with a fixed four-coloring of the polygon vertices. In this article it is proven that each color graph has a vertex-induced embedding in a hypercube, and an upper bound is given for the hypercube dimension. The color graphs for $n$-gons up to $n=8$ are listed and some of their features are discussed. Finally it is shown that certain color graphs cannot be isometrically embedded in a hypercube of any dimension.
Let $\mathcal{Q}_n$ be the $n$-dimensional hypercube: the graph with vertex set $\{0,1\}^n$ and edges between vertices that differ in exactly one coordinate. For $1\leq d\leq n$ and $F\subseteq \{0,1\}^d$ we say that $S\subseteq \{0,1\}^n$ is \emph{$F$-free} if every embedding $i:\{0,1\}^d\to \{0,1\}^n$ satisfies $i(F)\not\subseteq S$. We consider the question of how large $S\subseteq \{0,1\}^n$ can be if it is $F$-free. In particular we generalise the main prior result in this area, for $F=\{0,1\}^2$, due to E.A. Kostochka and prove a local stability result for the structure of near-extremal …
The size sz(G) of an l_1-graph G=(V,E) is the minimum of n_f/t_f over all its possible l_1-embeddings f into n_f-dimensional hypercube with scale t_f. In terms of v=|V|, the sum of distances between all the pairs of vertices of G is at most sz(G) v^2/4 for v even, (resp. sz(G)(v-1)(v+1)/4 for v odd). This bound is reached if and only if G is an equicut graph, that is, G admits an l_1-embedding with column sums v/2, v even (resp. (v-1)/2 for v odd). Basic properties of equicut graphs are investigated. A construction of equicut graphs from l_1-graphs via a natural doubling construction is given.…
