Infinite sums of additive unstable Adams operations and cobordism

The elements of the ring of bidegree (0,0) additive unstable operations in complex K-theory can be described explicitly as certain infinite sums of Adams operations. Here we show how to make sense of the same expressions for complex cobordism MU, thus identifying the "Adams subring" of the corresponding ring of cobordism operations. We prove that the Adams subring is the centre of the ring of bidegree (0,0) additive unstable cobordism operations. For an odd prime p, the analogous result in the p-local split setting is also proved.

Algebraic elliptic cohomology and flops II: $SL$-cobordism

In this paper, we study the algebraic cobordism spectrum $MSL$ in the motivic stable homotopy category of Voevodsky over an arbitrary perfect field $k$. Using the motivic Adams spectral sequence, we compute the geometric part of the $η$-completion of $MSL$ (modulo the maximal subgroup that is $l$-divisble for all primes $l\neq2, char k$). As an application, we study the Krichever's elliptic genus with integral coefficients, restricted to $MSL$. Stable and Unstable operations in Algebraic Cobordism

We describe additive (unstable) operations from a theory A^* obtained from Algebraic Cobordism of M.Levine-F.Morel by change of coefficients to any oriented cohomology theory B^*. We prove that there is 1-to-1 correspondence between the set of operations, and the set of transformations: A^n((P^{\infty})^{\times r}) ---> B^m((P^{\infty})^{\times r}) satisfying certain simple properties. Homotopy invariance of 4-manifold decompositions: connected sums

We show, up to h-cobordism, that the existence and uniqueness of connected sum decompositions of oriented 4-dimensional manifolds is an invariant of homotopy equivalence, assuming that the fundamental group of each summand is "good" in the sense of Freedman and Quinn. On a separate note, we observe that the Borel Conjecture is true in dimension 4 up to s-cobordism, assuming that the fundamental group satisfies the Farrell--Jones Conjecture.

Tangential Structures on Toric Manifolds, and Connected Sums of Polytopes

We extend work of Davis and Januszkiewicz by considering {\it omnioriented} toric manifolds, whose canonical codimension-2 submanifolds are independently oriented. We show that each omniorientation induces a canonical stably complex structure, which is respected by the torus action and so defines an element of an equivariant cobordism ring. As an application, we compute the complex bordism groups and cobordism ring of an arbitrary omnioriented toric manifold.
