Regular homotopy of Hurwitz curves

We prove that any two irreducible cuspidal Hurwitz curves $C_0$ and $C_1$ (or more generally, curves with A-type singularities) in the Hirzebruch surface $F_N$ with coinciding homology classes and sets of singularities are regular homotopic; and symplectically regular homotopic if $C_0$ and $C_1$ are symplectic with respect to a compatible symplectic form.

Topological recursion and a quantum curve for monotone Hurwitz numbers

Classical Hurwitz numbers count branched covers of the Riemann sphere with prescribed ramification data, or equivalently, factorisations in the symmetric group with prescribed cycle structure data. Monotone Hurwitz numbers restrict the enumeration by imposing a further monotonicity condition on such factorisations. Geometry of meromorphic functions and intersections on moduli spaces of curves

In this paper we study relations between intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves and Hurwitz numbers. First, we prove two formulas expressing Hurwitz numbers of (generalized) polynomials via intersections on moduli spaces of curves. Then we show, how intersection numbers can be expressed via Hurwitz numbers. And then we obtain an algorithm expressing intersection numbers $<τ_{n,m}\prod_{i=0}^{r-1}τ_{0,i}^{k_i}>_g$ via correlation functions of primaries.

Hurwitz ball quotients

We consider the analogue of Hurwitz curves, smooth projective curves $C$ of genus $g \ge 2$ that realize equality in the Hurwitz bound $|\mathrm{Aut}(C)| \le 84 (g - 1)$, to smooth compact quotients $S$ of the unit ball in $\mathbb{C}^2$. When $S$ is arithmetic, we show that $|\mathrm{Aut}(S)| \le 288 e(S)$, where $e(S)$ is the (topological) Euler characteristic, and in the case of equality show that $S$ is a regular cover of a particular Deligne--Mostow orbifold. Non-commutative extensions of two-dimensional topological field theories and Hurwitz numbers for real algebraic curves

It is well-known that classical two-dimensional topological field theories are in one-to-one correspondence with commutative Frobenius algebras. An important extension of classical two-dimensional topological field theories is provided by open-closed two-dimensional topological field theories. Towards the topological recursion for double Hurwitz numbers

Single Hurwitz numbers enumerate branched covers of the Riemann sphere with specified genus, prescribed ramification over infinity, and simple branching elsewhere. They exhibit a remarkably rich structure. In particular, they arise as intersection numbers on moduli spaces of curves and are governed by the topological recursion of Chekhov, Eynard and Orantin. Covers of the projective line and the moduli space of quadratic differentials

Consider the 1-dimensional Hurwitz space parameterizing covers of P^1 branched at four points. We study its intersection with divisor classes on the moduli space of curves. As an application, we calculate the slope of the Teichmuller curve parameterizing square-tiled cyclic covers and recover the sum of its Lyapunov exponents obtained by Forni, Matheus and Zorich. Motivated by the work of Eskin, Kontsevich and Zorich, we exhibit a relation among the slope of Hurwitz spaces, the sum of Lyapunov exponents and the Siegel-Veech constant for the moduli space of quadratic differentials.
