S. Zelditch introduced an equivariant version of a pseudo-differential calculus on a hyperbolic Riemann surface. We recast his construction in terms of trilinear invariant functionals on irreducible unitary representations of PGL(2,R). This allows us to use certain properties of these functionals in the study of the action of pseudo-differential operators on eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on hyperbolic Riemann surfaces.

Refined and microlocal Kakeya-Nikodym bounds for eigenfunctions in two dimensions

We obtain some improved essentially sharp Kakeya-Nikodym estimates for eigenfunctions in two-dimensions. We obtain these by proving stronger related microlocal estimates involving a natural decomposition of phase space that is adapted to the geodesic flow.

Refined and Microlocal Kakeya-Nikodym Bounds of Eigenfunctions in Higher Dimensions

We prove a Kakeya-Nikodym bound on eigenfunctions and quasimodes, which sharpens a result of the authors and extends it to higher dimensions. As in the prior work, the key intermediate step is to prove a microlocal version of these estimates, which involves a phase space decomposition of these modes which is essentially invariant under the bicharacteristic/geodesic flow. In a companion paper, it will be seen that these sharpened estimates yield improved $L^q(M)$ bounds on eigenfunctions in the presence of nonpositive curvature when $2 < q < \frac{2(d+1)}{d-1}$.

A microlocal approach to eigenfunction concentration

We describe a new approach to understanding averages of high energy Laplace eigenfunctions, $u_h$, over submanifolds, $$ \Big|\int _H u_hdσ_H\Big| $$ where $H\subset M$ is a submanifold and $σ_H$ the induced by the Riemannian metric on $M$. This approach can be applied uniformly to submanifolds of codimension $1\leq k\leq n$ and in particular, gives a new approach to understanding $\|u_h\|_{L^\infty(M)}$. Bilinear Kakeya-Nikodym averages of eigenfunctions on compact Riemannian surfaces

We obtain an improvement of the bilinear estimates of Burq, Gérard and Tzvetkov in the spirit of the refined Kakeya-Nikodym estimates of Blair and the second author. We do this by using microlocal techniques and a bilinear version of Hörmander's oscillatory integral theorem.

Eigenfunction asymptotics and spectral Rigidity of the ellipse

This paper is part of a series concerning the isospectral problem for an ellipse. In this paper, we study Cauchy data of eigenfunctions of the ellipse with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. Using many classical results on ellipse eigenfunctions, we determine the microlocal defect measures of the Cauchy data of the eigenfunctions. Control of eigenfunctions on surfaces of variable curvature

We prove a microlocal lower bound on the mass of high energy eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on compact surfaces of negative curvature, and more generally on surfaces with Anosov geodesic flows.
