A stochastic comparison result that makes progress towards understanding the classical multitype contact process with unequal death rates is given. It has long been conjectured that the particle type with the largest birth to death rate ratio survives and the other dies out. A point process coupling result of Broman is used to give a sufficient condition for when the dominant particle type survives.
It is known that the limiting behavior of the contact process strongly depends upon the geometry of the graph on which particles evolve: while the contact process on the regular lattice exhibits only two phases, the process on homogeneous trees exhibits an intermediate phase of weak survival. Similarly, we prove that the geometry of the graph can drastically affect the limiting behavior of multitype versions of the contact process. Namely, while it is strongly believed (and partly proved) that the coexistence region of the multitype contact process on the regular lattice reduces to a subset of…
We introduce a multitype contact process with temporal heterogeneity involving two species competing for space on the $d$-dimensional integer lattice. Time is divided into seasons called alternately season 1 and season 2. We prove that there is an open set of the parameters for which both species can coexist when their dispersal range is large enough. Numerical simulations also suggest that three species can coexist in the presence of two seasons. This contrasts with the long-term behavior of the time-homogeneous multitype contact process for which the species with the higher birth rate outcom…
We study the ergodic theory of a multitype contact process with equal death rates and unequal birth rates on the $d$-dimensional integer lattice and regular trees. We prove that for birth rates in a certain interval there is coexistence on the tree, which by a result of Neuhauser is not possible on the lattice. We also prove a complete convergence result when the larger birth rate falls outside of this interval.
In the multitype contact process, vertices of a graph can be empty or occupied by a type 1 or a type 2 individual; an individual of type $i$ dies with rate 1 and sends a descendant to a neighboring empty site with rate $λ_i$. We study this process on $\Z^d$ with $λ_1 > λ_2$ and $λ_1$ larger than the critical value of the (one-type) contact process. We prove that, if there is at least one type 1 individual in the initial configuration, then type 1 has a positive probability of never going extinct. Conditionally on this event, type 1 takes over a ball of radius growing linearly in time. We also …
We consider a two-type contact process on $\Z$ in which both types have equal finite range and supercritical infection rate. We show that a given type becomes extinct with probability 1 if and only if, in the initial configuration, it is confined to a finite interval $[-L,L]$ and the other type occupies infinitely many sites both in $(-\infty, L)$ and $(L, \infty)$. We also show that, starting from the configuration in which all sites in $(-\infty, 0]$ are occupied by type 1 particles and all sites in $(0, \infty)$ are occupied by type 2 particles, the process $ρ_t$ defined by the size of the …
We study the interface of the multitype contact process on $\mathbb{Z}$. In this process, each site of $\mathbb{Z}$ is either empty or occupied by an individual of one of two species. Each individual dies with rate 1 and attempts to give birth with rate $2 R λ$; the position for the possible new individual is chosen uniformly at random within distance $R$ of the parent, and the birth is suppressed if this position is already occupied. We consider the process started from the configuration in which all sites to the left of the origin are occupied by one of the species and all sites to the right…

Mean-field frozen percolation is a random graph-valued process, which adjusts the dynamics of the classical Erdos-Renyi process with an additional mechanism to 'freeze' potential giant components before they can form. It is known to exhibit self-organised criticality from a wide class of initial graphs. We show that a family of inhomogeneous random graphs with finitely-many types form a stable class under these dynamics. We study how the survival of a vertex depends on its initial type, and establish a hydrodynamic limit for the process recording surviving vertices of each type, in terms of mu…
We introduce and study the mutating contact process, a variant of the multitype contact process, where one type mutates at a constant rate to the other type. We prove that on $\mathbb{Z}$ a single mutant cannot survive while on $\mathbb{T}_{d}$ there are distinct weak survival and extinction of a single mutant phases, yet the limiting distribution concentrates on configurations with no mutants of the first type for any values of the parameters.
The stacked contact process is a stochastic model for the spread of an infection within a population of hosts located on the $d$-dimensional integer lattice. Regardless of whether they are healthy or infected, hosts give birth and die at the same rate and in accordance to the evolution rules of the neutral multitype contact process. The infection is transmitted both vertically from infected parents to their offspring and horizontally from infected hosts to nearby healthy hosts. The population survives if and only if the common birth rate of healthy and infected hosts exceeds the critical value…

We consider a random process on recursive trees, with three types of events. Vertices give birth at a constant rate (growth), each edge may be removed independently (fragmentation of the tree) and clusters (or trees) are frozen with a rate proportional to their sizes (isolation of connected component). A phase transition occurs when the isolation is able to stop the growth fragmentation process and cause extinction. When the process survives, the number of clusters increases exponentially and we prove that the normalized empirical measure of clusters a.s. converges to a limit law on recursive …
