Our aim is to construct a functorial tensor product of $A_\infty$-algebras or, equivalently, an explicit diagonal for the operad of cellular chains, over the integers, of the Stasheff associahedron. These construction were in fact already indicated by R. Umble and S. Saneblidze in [9]; we will try to give a more satisfactory presentation. We also prove that there does not exist an associative tensor product of $A_\infty$-algebras.
We construct a topological cellular operad such that the algebras over its cellular chains are the homotopy unital A-infinity algebras of Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono.
We give a topological solution to the $\Ainf$ Deligne conjecture using associahedra and cyclohedra. For this we construct three CW complexes whose cells are indexed by products of polytopes. Giving new explicit realizations of the polytopes in terms of different types of trees, we are able to show that the CW complexes are cell models for the little discs. The cellular chains of one complex in particular, which is built out of associahedra and cyclohedra, naturally acts on the Hochschild cochains of an $\Ainf$ algebra yielding an explicit, topological and minimal solution to the $\Ainf$ Delign…
We study a cofibrant E-infty operad generated by the Fox-Neuwirth cells of the configuration space of points in the Euclidean space. We show that, below the `critical dimensions' in which `bad cells' exist, this operad is modeled by the geometry of the Fulton-MacPherson compactification of this configuration space. We analyze the Tamarkin bad cell and calculate the differential of the corresponding generator. We also describe a simpler, four-dimensional bad cell. We finish the paper by proving an auxiliary result giving a characterization, over integers, of free Lie algebras.
This paper introduces a new method to solve the problem of the approximation of the diagonal for face-coherent families of polytopes. We recover the classical cases of the simplices and the cubes and we solve it for the associahedra, also known as Stasheff polytopes. We show that it satisfies an easy-to-state cellular formula. For the first time, we endow a family of realizations of the associahedra (the Loday realizations) with a topological and cellular operad structure; it is shown to be compatible with the diagonal maps.
Let C_*(K) denote the cellular chains on the Stasheff associahedra. We construct an explicit combinatorial diagonal Δ: C_*(K) --> C_*(K) \otimes C_*(K); consequently, we obtain an explicit diagonal on the A_\infty-operad. We apply the diagonal Δto define the tensor product of A_\infty-(co)algebras in maximal generality.
We provide a new combinatorial approach to studying the collection of N-infinity-operads in G-equivariant homotopy theory for G a finite cyclic group. In particular, we show that for G the cyclic group of order p^n the natural order on the collection of N-infinity-operads stands in bijection with the poset structure of the (n+1)-associahedron. We further provide a lower bound for the number of possible N-infinity-operads for any finite cyclic group G.
We construct an explicit diagonal Δ_P on the permutahedra P. Related diagonals on the multiplihedra J and the associahedra K are induced by Tonks' projection P --> K and its factorization through J. We introduce the notion of a permutahedral set Z and lift Δ_P to a diagonal on Z. We show that the double cobar construction Ω^2(C_*(X)) is a permutahedral set; consequently Δ_P lifts to a diagonal on Ω^2(C_*(X)). Finally, we apply the diagonal on K to define the tensor product of A_\infty-(co)algebras in maximal generality.
We define the notion of a 2-operad relative to an operad, and prove that the 2-associahedra form a 2-operad relative to the associahedra. Using this structure, we define the notions of an $(A_\infty,2)$-category and $(A_\infty,2)$-algebra in spaces and in chain complexes over a ring. Finally, we show that for any continuous map $A \to X$, we can associate an $(A_\infty,2)$-algebra $θ(A \to X)$ in $\textsf{Top}$, which specializes to $θ(\text{pt} \to X) = Ω^2 X$ and $θ(A \to \text{pt}) = ΩA \times ΩA$.
The paper is devoted to explaining the operadic meaning of freehedra, a family of polytopes originally defined to study free loop spaces. We introduce the notion of operadic pairs and algebras over them. Cellular chains on Stasheff associahedra and Stasheff multiplihedra assemble into a two-colored operadic pair that governs $A_\infty$-algebras and $A_\infty$-modules over them, with maps that are $A_\infty$ in both colors. An important quotient of this operadic pair is given by cellular chains on cubes and freehedra.
In this survey article we discuss certain homotopy coherent enhancements of the coalgebra structure on cellular chains defined by an approximation to the diagonal. Over the rational numbers, $C_\infty$-coalgebra structures control the $\mathbb Q$-complete homotopy theory of spaces, and over the integers, $E_\infty$-coalgebras provide an appropriate setting to model the full homotopy category. Effective constructions of these structures, the focus of this work, carry geometric and combinatorial information which has found applications in various fields including deformation theory, higher categ…
We define a cellular approximation for the diagonal of the Forcey--Loday realizations of the multiplihedra, and endow them with a compatible topological cellular operadic bimodule structure over the Loday realizations of the associahedra. This provides us with a model for topological and algebraic A-infinity morphisms, as well as a universal and explicit formula for their tensor product. We study the monoidal properties of this newly defined tensor product and conclude by outlining several applications, notably in algebraic and symplectic topology.
We construct, using finitely many generating cell and relations, props in the category of CW-complexes with the property that their associated operads are models for the $E_\infty$-operad. We use one of these to construct a cellular $E_\infty$-bialgebra structure on the interval and derive from it a natural cellular $E_\infty$-coalgebra structure on the geometric realization of a simplicial set which, passing to cellular chains, recovers up to signs the Barratt-Eccles and Surjection coalgebra structures introduced by Berger-Fresse and McClure-Smith. We use another prop, a quotient of the first…
Inspired by Stewart Priddy's cellular model for the $p$-local Brown-Peterson spectrum $BP$, we give a construction of a $p$-local $E_\infty$ ring spectrum $R$ which is a close approximation to $BP$. Indeed we can show that if $BP$ admits an $E_\infty$ structure then these are weakly equivalent as $E_\infty$ ring spectra. Our inductive cellular construction makes use of power operations on homotopy groups to define homotopy classes which are then killed by attaching $E_\infty$ cells.
To an Adams-type homology theory we associate a notion of a synthetic spectrum, this is a product-preserving sheaf on the site of finite spectra with projective $E$-homology. We prove that the $\infty$-category $Syn_{E}$ of synthetic spectra based on $E$ is in a precise sense a deformation of the $\infty$-category of spectra into quasi-coherent sheaves over a certain algebraic stack, and show that this deformation encodes the $E$-based Adams spectral sequence. We describe a symmetric monoidal functor from cellular motivic spectra over the complex numbers into an even variant of synthetic spect…
We complete the construction of the biassociahedra $KK$, construct the free matrad $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$, realize $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ as the cellular chains of $KK,$ and define an $A_{\infty}$-bialgebra as an algebra over $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}.$ We construct the bimultiplihedra $JJ,$ construct the relative free matrad $r\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ as a $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$-bimodule, realize $r\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ as the cellular chains of $JJ$, and define a morphism of $A_{\infty}$-bialgebras as a bimodule over $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$. We prove that the homology of every $A_{\infty}$-bialgebra…
First we describe a class of homotopy Frobenius algebras via cyclic operads which we call cyclic $A_\infty$ algebras. We then define a suitable new combinatorial operad which acts on the Hochschild cochains of such an algebra in a manner which encodes the homotopy BV structure. Moreover we show that this operad is equivalent to the cellular chains of a certain topological (quasi)-operad of CW complexes whose constituent spaces form a homotopy associative version of the Cacti operad of Voronov. These cellular chains thus constitute a chain model for the framed little disks operad, proving a cyc…
Elaborating on works by Abouzaid and Mescher, we prove that for a Morse function on a smooth compact manifold, its Morse cochain complex can be endowed with an $ΩB As$-algebra structure by counting moduli spaces of perturbed Morse gradient trees. This rich structure descends to its already known $A_\infty$-algebra structure. We then introduce the notion of $ΩB As$-morphism between two $ΩB As$-algebras and prove that given two Morse functions, one can construct an $ΩB As$-morphism between their associated $ΩB As$-algebras by counting moduli spaces of two-colored perturbed Morse gradient trees. …
