In this paper we look at normed spaces of differentiable functions on compact plane sets, including the spaces of infinitely differentiable functions originally considered by Dales and Davie. For many compact plane sets the classical definitions give rise to incomplete spaces. We introduce an alternative definition of differentiability which allows us to describe the completions of these spaces. We also consider some associated problems of polynomial and rational approximation.
The fundamental aim of this paper is to introduce and investigate a new property of quasi 2-normed space based on a question given by C. Park (2006) [2] for the completion quasi 2-normed space. Finally, we also find an answer for a question Park's.
We learn mathematics subjectively and must apply it objectively. But sometimes, we apply it subjectively by using wrong intuitions which may be elusive to our eyes. The aim of this note is to disclose the secretes of two kinds of these false intuitions and the opportunities they may provide. We first discuss the wrong assumption which says that each topology is uniquely determined by studying a very bad phenomenon happening in dealing with weak* topology. Then, we consider the problem of completing a normed space under two comparable norms, one being smaller than the other. Here, we show that …
We investigate the completeness and completions of the normed algebras $D^{(1)}(X)$ for perfect, compact plane sets $X$. In particular, we construct a radially self-absorbing, compact plane set $X$ such that the normed algebra $D^{(1)}(X)$ is not complete. This solves a question of Bland and Feinstein. We also prove that there are several classes of connected, compact plane sets $X$ for which the completeness of $D^{(1)}(X)$ is equivalent to the pointwise regularity of $X$. For example, this is true for all rectifiably connected, polynomially convex, compact plane sets with empty interior, for…
In a countably normed space which is a linear space equipped with a countable number of pair-wise compatible norms, we prove the existence of a common nearest point (in all norms) from a point outside a nonempty subset if this subset is compact with respect to all norms. We also prove the uniqueness of that common nearest point if the completion of the space equipped with only one of its norms is uniformly convex.
A bounded subset of a normed linear space is said to be (diametrically) complete if it cannot be enlarged without increasing the diameter. A complete super set of a bounded set $K$ having the same diameter as $K$ is called a completion of $K$. In general, a bounded set may have different completions. We study normed linear spaces having the property that there exists a nontrivial segment with a unique completion. It turns out that this property is strictly weaker than the property that each complete set is a ball, and it is strictly stronger than the property that each set of constant width is…
The space Weak L^1 consists of all measurable functions on [0,1] such that q(f) = sup_{c>0} c λ{t : |f(t)| > c} is finite, where λdenotes Lebesgue measure. Let ρbe the gauge functional of the unit ball {f : q(f) \leq 1} of the quasi- norm q, and let N be the null space of ρ. The normed envelope of Weak L^1, which we denote by W, is the space (Weak L^1/N, ρ). The Banach envelope of Weak L^1, \overline{W}, is the completion of W. We show that \overline{W} is isometrically lattice isomorphic to a sublattice of W. It is also shown that all rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces are isometr…
In this paper, we generalize the concept of unbounded norm (un) convergence: let $X$ be a normed lattice and $Y$ a vector lattice such that $X$ is an order dense ideal in $Y$; we say that a net $(y_α)$ un-converges to $y$ in $Y$ with respect to $X$ if $\Bigl\lVert\lvert y_α-y\rvert \wedge x\Bigr\rVert\to 0$ for every $x\in X_+$. We extend several known results about un-convergence and un-topology to this new setting. We consider the special case when $Y$ is the universal completion of $X$. If $Y=L_0(μ)$, the space of all $μ$-measurable functions, and $X$ is an order continuous Banach function …
The concept of a $ C $*-algebra-valued metric space was introduced in 2014. It is a generalization of a metric space by replacing the set of real numbers by a $ C $*-algebra. In this paper, we show that $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces are cone metric spaces in some point of view which is useful to extend results of the cone case to $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces. Then the completion theorem of $ C $*-algebra-valued metric spaces is obtained. Moreover, the completion theorem of $ C $*-algebra-valued normed spaces is verified and the connection with Hilbert $ C $*-modules, generalized i…

In the recent paper \cite{Hos}, surjective isometries, not necessarily linear, $T: {\rm AC}(X,E) \longrightarrow {\rm AC}(Y,F)$ between vector-valued absolutely continuous functions on compact subsets $X$ and $Y$ of the real line, has been described. The target spaces $E$ and $F$ are strictly convex normed spaces. In this paper, we assume that $X$ and $Y$ are compact Hausdorff spaces and $E$ and $F$ are normed spaces, which are not assumed to be strictly convex. We describe (with a short proof) surjective isometries $T: (A,\|\cdot\|_A) \longrightarrow (B,\|\cdot\|_B)$ between certain normed su…
Universal operatorial Noether current associated with a quasi-complete locally convex linear space valued Lagrangian defined on an open set of a product of normed spaces
Let $Q$ denote the space of signed measures on the Borel $σ$-algebra of a separable complete space $X$. We endow $Q$ with the norm $\|q\|=\sup|\intϕdq|$, where the supremum is taken over all Lipschitz with constant 1 functions whose module does not exceed unity. This normed space is incomplete provided $X$ is infinite and has at least one limit point. We call its completion the space of hypermeasures. Necessary and sufficient conditions for precompactness (=relative compactness) of a set of hypermeasures are found. They are similar to those of Prokhorov's and Fernique's theorems for measures.
Let $X$ and $Y$ be compact Hausdorff spaces, $E$ and $F$ be real or complex normed spaces and $A(X,E)$ be a subspace of $C(X,E)$. For a function $f\in C(X,E)$, let $\coz(f)$ be the cozero set of $f$. A pair of additive maps $S,T: A(X,E) \lo C(Y,F)$ is said to be jointly separating if $\coz(Tf)\cap \coz(Sg)=\emptyset$ whenever $\coz(f)\cap \coz(g)= \emptyset$. In this paper, first we give a partial description of additive jointly separating maps between certain spaces of vector-valued continuous functions (including spaces of vector-valued Lipschitz functions, absolutely continuous functions an…
Given an open subset $Ω$ of a Banach space and a Lipschitz function $u_0: \overlineΩ \to \mathbb{R},$ we study whether it is possible to approximate $u_0$ uniformly on $Ω$ by $C^k$-smooth Lipschitz functions which coincide with $u_0$ on the boundary $\partial Ω$ of $Ω$ and have the same Lipschitz constant as $u_0.$ As a consequence, we show that every $1$-Lipschitz function $u_0: \overlineΩ \to \mathbb{R},$ defined on the closure $\overlineΩ$ of an open subset $Ω$ of a finite dimensional normed space of dimension $n \geq 2$, and such that the Lipschitz constant of the restriction of $u_0$ to t…
