We study the cubic non linear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on compact surfaces. On the sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ and more generally on Zoll surfaces, we prove that, for $s>1/4$, NLS is uniformly well-posed in $H^s$, which is sharp on the sphere. The main ingredient in our proof is a sharp bilinear estimate for Laplace spectral projectors on compact surfaces.
In this paper, we investigate the $L^p$ bilinear quasimode estimates on compact Riemannian manifolds. We obtain results in the full range $p\ge2$ on all $n$-dimensional manifolds with $n\ge2$. This in particular implies the $L^p$ bilinear eigenfunction estimates. We further show that all of these estimates are sharp by constructing various quasimodes and eigenfunctions that saturate our estimates.
We obtain an improvement of the bilinear estimates of Burq, Gérard and Tzvetkov in the spirit of the refined Kakeya-Nikodym estimates of Blair and the second author. We do this by using microlocal techniques and a bilinear version of Hörmander's oscillatory integral theorem.
We prove a dispersive estimate for the evolution of Schroedinger operators $H = -Δ+ V(x)$ in ${\mathbb R}^3$. The potential is allowed to be a complex-valued function belonging to $L^p(\R^3)\cap L^q(\R^3)$, $p < \frac32 < q$, so that $H$ need not be self-adjoint or even symmetric. Some additional spectral conditions are imposed, namely that no resonances of $H$ exist anywhere within the interval $[0,\infty)$ and that eigenfunctions at zero (including generalized eigenfunctions) decay rapidly enough to be integrable.
The purpose of this note is to extend to any space dimension the bilinear estimate for eigenfunctions of the Laplace operator on a compact manifold (without boundary) obtained in a previous work in dimension 2. We also give some related trilinear estimates.
The Cauchy problem for a coupled system of the Schroedinger and the KdV equation is shown to be globally well-posed for data with infinite energy. The proof uses refined bilinear Strichartz estimates and the I-method introduced by Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao.
We consider a non-resonant system of finitely many bilinear Schroedinger equations with discrete spectrum driven by the same scalar control. We prove that this system can approximately track any given system of trajectories of density matrices, up to the phase of the coordinates. The result is valid both for bounded and unbounded Schroedinger operators. The method used relies on finite-dimensional control techniques applied to Lie groups. We provide also an example showing that no approximate tracking of both modulus and phase is possible
We consider the Schrödinger type operator ${\mathcal A}=(1+|x|^α)Δ-|x|^β$, for $α\in [0,2]$ and $β\ge 0$. We prove that, for any $p\in (1,\infty)$, the minimal realization of operator ${\mathcal A}$ in $L^p(\R^N)$ generates a strongly continuous analytic semigroup $(T_p(t))_{t\ge 0}$. For $α\in [0,2)$ and $β\ge 2$, we then prove some upper estimates for the heat kernel $k$ associated to the semigroup $(T_p(t))_{t\ge 0}$. As a consequence we obtain an estimate for large $|x|$ of the eigenfunctions of ${\mathcal A}$. Finally, we extend such estimates to a class of divergence type elliptic operat…

We prove Strichartz estimates for the Schroedinger operator $H = -Δ+ V(t,x)$ with time-periodic complex potentials $V$ belonging to the scaling-critical space $L^{n/2}_x L^\infty_t$ in dimensions $n \ge 3$. This is done directly from estimates on the resolvent rather than using dispersive bounds, as the latter generally require a stronger regularity condition than what is stated above. In typical fashion, we project onto the continuous spectrum of the operator and must assume an absence of resonances. Eigenvalues are permissible at any location in the spectrum, including at threshold energies,…
In [14] Duca and Nersesyan proved a small-time controllability property of nonlinear Schrödinger equations on a d-dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}^d$. In this paper we study a similar property, in the linear setting, starting from a closed Riemannian manifold. We then focus on the 2-dimensional sphere $S^2$, which models the bilinear control of a rotating linear top: as a corollary, we obtain the approximate controllability in arbitrarily small times among particular eigenfunctions of the Laplacian of $S^2$.
We prove wellposedness of the Cauchy problem for the cubic nonlinear Schrodinger equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions and radial data on 3D balls. The main argument is based on a bilinear eigenfunction estimate and the use of $X^{s,b}$ spaces. The last part presents a first attempt to study the non radial case. We prove bilinear estimates for the linear Schrodinger flow with particular initial data.
In this article we give an overview on some recent development of Littlewood-Paley theory for Schrödinger operators. We extend the Littlewood-Paley theory for special potentials considered in the authors' previous work. We elaborate our approach by considering potential in $C^\infty_0$ or Schwartz class in one dimension. In particular the low energy estimates are treated by establishing some new and refined asymptotics for the eigenfunctions and their Fourier transforms. We give maximal function characterization of the Besov spaces and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces associated with $H$. Then we prove…
In [15] we proposed a set of sufficient conditions for the approximate controllability of a discrete-spectrum bilinear Schrödinger equation. These conditions are expressed in terms of the controlled potential and of the eigenpairs of the uncontrolled Schrödinger operator. The aim of this paper is to show that these conditions are generic with respect to the uncontrolled and the controlled potential, denoted respectively by $V$ and $W$. More precisely, we prove that the Schrödinger equation is approximately controllable generically with respect to $W$ when $V$ is fixed and also generically with…
We prove sharp bilinear estimates for Dirichlet or Neumann eigenfunctions in domains in the plane. These are the natural analog of earlier estimates for the boundaryless case of Burq, Gérard, and Tzvetkov.
The long-time asymptotics is analyzed for all finite energy solutions to a model U(1)-invariant nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation in one dimension, with the nonlinearity concentrated at a single point: each finite energy solution converges as time goes to plus or minus infinity to the set of all ``nonlinear eigenfunctions'' of the form $ψ(x)e\sp{-iωt}$. The global attraction is caused by the nonlinear energy transfer from lower harmonics to the continuous spectrum and subsequent dispersive radiation. We justify this mechanism by the following novel strategy based on inflation of spectrum by the …
We prove a dispersive estimate for the evolution of Schroedinger operators H = -Δ+ V(x) in three dimensions. The potential should belong to the closure of bounded compactly-supported functions with respect to the golbal Kato norm. Some additional spectral conditions are imposed, namely that no resonances or eigenfunctions of H exist anywhere on the positive half-line. The proof is an application of a new version of Wiener's L^1 inversion theorem.
We prove dispersive estimates in R^3 for the Schroedinger evolution generated by the Hamiltonian H = -Δ+V, under optimal decay conditions on V, in the presence of zero energy eigenfunctions and resonances.
We study uncertainty principles for function classes on the torus. The classes are defined in terms of spectral subspaces of the energy or the momentum, respectively. In our main theorems, the support of the Fourier transform of the considered functions is allowed to be supported in a (finite number of) parallelepipeds. The estimates we obtain do not depend on the size of the torus and the position of the parallelepipeds, but only on their size and number, and the density and scale of the observability set. Our results are on the one hand closely related to unique continuation for linear combi…
We propose an approach to nonlinear evolution equations with large and decaying external potentials that addresses the question of controlling globally-in-time the nonlinear interactions of localized waves in this setting. This problem arises when studying localized perturbations around (possibly non-decaying) special solutions of evolution PDEs, and trying to control the projection onto the continuous spectrum of the nonlinear radiative interactions. One of our main tools is the Fourier transform adapted to the Schrödinger operator $H=-Δ+V$, which we employ at a nonlinear level. As a first st…
In \cite{poiret}, we explain how we can construct global solutions for the cubic Schrödinger equation in three dimensional with initial data in $ L^2(\mathds{R}^3) $. The main ingredient of this proof is the existence of the bilinear estimate for the harmonic oscillator. This estimate is true in all dimensions $ d \geq 2 $ and we can adapt the proof in these cases. We explain in this paper how we can use the smoothing effect to obtain an analogous theorem in all dimensions, in particular in dimension 1. The gain of regularity is lower but we can choose any basis of eigenfunctions and random va…
We consider the cubic non-linear Schrödinger equation on general closed (compact without boundary) Riemannian surfaces. The problem is known to be locally well-posed in $H^s(M)$ for $s>1/2$. Global well-posedness for $s\geq 1$ follows easily from conservation of energy and standard arguments. In this work, we extend the range of global well-posedness to $s>2/3$. This generalizes, without any loss in regularity, a similar result on $\T^2$. The proof relies on the I-method of Colliander, Keel, Staffilani, Takaoka, and Tao, a semi-classical bilinear Strichartz estimate proved by the author, and s…
