Let $Y$ be the zero loci of a regular section of a convex vector bundle $E$ over $X$. We provide a new proof of a conjecture of Cox, Katz and Lee for the virtual class of the genus zero moduli of stable maps to $Y$. This in turn yields the expected relationship between Gromov-Witten theories of $Y$ and $X$ which together with Mirror Theorems allows for the calculation of enumerative invariants of $Y$ inside of $X$.
This is the extended abstract of the talk given at the workshop "Geometry and physics of Higgs bundles", held at the Mathematisches Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach in May 2019.
We express nested Hilbert schemes of points and curves on a smooth projective surface as "virtual resolutions" of degeneracy loci of maps of vector bundles on smooth ambient spaces. We show how to modify the resulting obstruction theories to produce the virtual cycles of Vafa-Witten theory and other sheaf-counting problems. The result is an effective way of calculating invariants (VW, SW, local PT and local DT) via Thom-Porteous-like Chern class formulae.
Given a map of vector bundles on a smooth variety, consider the deepest degeneracy locus where its rank is smallest. We show it carries a natural perfect obstruction theory whose virtual cycle can be calculated by the Thom-Porteous formula. We show nested Hilbert schemes of points on surfaces can be expressed as degeneracy loci. We show how to modify the resulting obstruction theories to recover the virtual cycles of Vafa-Witten and reduced local DT theories. The result computes some Vafa-Witten invariants in terms of Carlsson-Okounkov operators. This proves and extends a conjecture of Gholamp…
We study the locus of the moduli space of Higgs bundles on a curve given by those Higgs bundles obtained by pushforward under an unramified cover. We equip these loci with a hyperholomorphic bundle so that they can be viewed as BBB-branes, and we introduce corresponding BAA-branes which can be described via Hecke modifications. We then show how these branes are naturally dual via explicit Fourier--Mukai transform, where we recall that the structure group $\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{C})$ is Langlands self dual. It is noteworthy that these branes lie over the singular locus of the Hitchin fibration. …
We generalize Grothendieck's residues $Res\fracψ{s}$ to virtual cases, namely cases when the zero loci of the section $s$ has dimension larger than the expected dimension(zero). We also provide an exponential type integral formalism for the virtual residue, which can be viewed as an analogue of the Mathai-Quillen formalism for localized Euler classes.
Let $C$ be a smooth projective complex curve of genus $g \geq 2$. We investigate the Brill-Noether locus consisting of stable bundles of rank 2 and determinant $L$ of odd degree $d$ having at least $k$ independent sections. This locus possesses a virtual fundamental class. We show that in many cases this class is non-zero, which implies that the Brill-Noether locus is non-empty. For many values of $d$ and $k$ the result is best possible. We obtain more precise results for $k\le5$. An appendix contains the proof of a combinatorial lemma which we need.
Let E be a toric fibration arising from symplectic reduction of a direct sum of line bundles over (almost-) Kähler base B. Then each torus-fixed point of the toric manifold fiber defines a section of the fibration. Let L_a be convex line bundles over B, A_a smooth divisors of B arising as the zero loci of generic sections of L_a, and \a:B\to E a particular fixed-point section of E. Further assume the \{A_a\} to be mutually disjoint. We compute genus-0 Gromov--Witten invariants of the blowup of E along \a(\coprod_a A_a) in terms of genus-0 Gromov--Witten invariants of B and of \{A_a\}, the matr…
For each positive rational number epsilon, the theory of epsilon-stable quasimaps to certain GIT quotients W//G developed in arXiv:1106.3724[math.AG] gives rise to a Cohomological Field Theory. Furthermore, there is an asymptotic theory corresponding to epsilon --> 0. For epsilon >1 one obtains the usual Gromov-Witten theory of W//G, while the other theories are new. However, they are all expected to contain the same information and in particular the numerical invariants should be related by wall-crossing formulas. In this paper we analyze the genus zero picture and find that the wall-crossing…
We provide a mirror symmetry theorem in a range of cases where the state-of-the-art techniques relying on concavity or convexity do not apply. More specifically, we work on a family of FJRW potentials named after Fan, Jarvis, Ruan, and Witten's quantum singularity theory and viewed as the counterpart of a non-convex Gromov--Witten potential via the physical LG/CY correspondence. The main result provides an explicit formula for Polishchuk and Vaintrob's virtual cycle in genus zero. In the non-concave case of the so-called chain invertible polynomials, it yields a compatibility theorem with the …
In this paper, we propose a geometrical approach to mirror computation of genus 0 Gromov-Witten invariants of CP^2. We use multi-point virtual structure constants, which are defined as intersection numbers of a compact moduli space of quasi maps from CP^1 to CP^2 with 2+n marked points. We conjecture that some generating functions of them produce mirror map and the others are translated into generating functions of Gromov-Witten invariants via the mirror map. We generalize this formalism to open string case. In this case, we have to introduce infinite number of deformation parameters to obtain…
In this paper, we generalize Walcher's computation of the open Gromov-Witten invariants of the quintic hypersurface to Fano and Calabi-Yau projective hypersurfaces. Our main tool is the open virtual structure constants. We also propose the generalized mirror transformation for the open Gromov-Witten invariants, some parts of which are proven explicitly. We also discuss possible modification of the multiple covering formula for the case of higher dimensional Calabi-Yau manifolds. The generalized disk invariants for some Calabi-Yau and Fano manifolds are shown and they are certainly integers aft…
We prove that the pullbacks of the virtual fundamental classes of the Brill-Noether loci under any Abel-Jacobi section lie in the tautological ring of the moduli space of stable curves. This resolves a conjecture of Pagani, Ricolfi and van Zelm, and is part of a broader program to understand the logarithmic intersection theory of $\Mgn$.
This thesis is dedicated to the study of certain loci of the Higgs bundle moduli space on a compact Riemann surface. Motivated by mirror symmetry, we give a detailed description of the fibres of the $G$-Hitchin fibration containing $G_0$-Higgs bundles for the real forms $G_0 = SU^*(2m)$, $SO^*(4m)$ and $Sp(m,m)$ of $G = SL(2m,\mathbb{C})$, $SO(4m,\mathbb{C})$ and $Sp(4m,\mathbb{C})$, respectively. The spectral curves associated to these fibres are examples of ribbons and our description is done in two different ways, one in term of objects on the reduced scheme associated to the spectral curve…
In this paper, we prove a K-theoretic wall-crossing formula for $ε$-stable quasimaps for all GIT targets in all genera. It recovers the genus-0 K-theoretic toric mirror theorem by Givental-Tonita and the genus-0 mirror theorem for quantum K-theory with level structure by Ruan-Zhang. The proofs are based on K-theoretic virtual localization on the master space introduced by the second author in arXiv:1911.02745.
Let $X$ be a compact toric Kähler manifold with $-K_X$ nef. Let $L\subset X$ be a regular fiber of the moment map of the Hamiltonian torus action on $X$. Fukaya-Oh-Ohta-Ono defined open Gromov-Witten (GW) invariants of $X$ as virtual counts of holomorphic discs with Lagrangian boundary condition $L$. We prove a formula which equates such open GW invariants with closed GW invariants of certain $X$-bundles over $\mathbb{P}^1$ used to construct the Seidel representations for $X$. We apply this formula and degeneration techniques to explicitly calculate all these open GW invariants. This yields a …
