Let g be a complex, simple Lie algebra with Cartan subalgebra h and Weyl group W. We construct a one-parameter family of flat connections D on h with values in any finite-dimensional h-module V and simple poles on the root hyperplanes. The corresponding monodromy representation of the braid group B of type g is a deformation of the action of (a finite extension of) W on V. The residues of D are the Casimirs of the sl(2)-subalgebras of g corresponding to its roots. The irreducibility of a subspace U of V under these implies that, for generic values of the parameter, the braid group B acts irreducibly on U. Answering a question of Knutson and Procesi, we show that these Casimirs act irreducibly on the weight spaces of all simple g-modules if g is sl(3) but that this is not the case if g is not isomorphic to sl(2) or sl(3). We use this to disprove a conjecture of Kwon and Lusztig stating the irreducibility of quantum Weyl group actions of Artin's braid group B_n on the zero weight spaces of all simple U_{q}sl(n)-modules for n greater or equal to 4. Finally, we study the irreducibility of the action of the Casimirs on the zero weight spaces of self-dual g-modules and obtain complete classification results for g=sl(n) or g(2).
We show that the monodromy of the trigonometric Casimir connection on the tensor product of evaluation modules of the Yangian Ysl_2 is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum loop algebra U_h(Lsl_2). The proof is patterned on the second author's computation of the monodromy of the rational Casimir connection for sl_n via the dual pair (gl_k,gl_n), and rests ultimately on the Etingof-Geer-Schiffmann computation of the monodromy of the trigonometric KZ connection. It relies on two new ingredients: an affine extension of the duality between the R-matrix of U_h(sl_k) and the q…
We compute explicitly the monodromy representations of "cyclotomic" analogs of the Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov differential system. These are representations of the type B braid group $B_n^1$. We show how the representations of the braid group $B_n$ obtained using quantum groups and universal $R$-matrices may be enhanced to representations of $B_n^1$ using dynamical twists. Then, we show how these "algebraic" representations may be identified with the above "analytic" monodromy representations.
Chiral conformal blocks in a rational conformal field theory are a far going extension of Gauss hypergeometric functions. The associated monodromy representations of Artin's braid group capture the essence of the modern view on the subject, which originates in ideas of Riemann and Schwarz. Physically, such monodromy representations correspond to a new type of braid group statistics, which may manifest itself in two-dimensional critical phenomena, e.g. in some exotic quantum Hall states. The associated primary fields satisfy R-matrix exchange relations. The description of the internal symmetry …
Let $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ be an infinite-dimensional quantum affine Lie algebra. A family of central elements or Casimir invariants are constructed and their eigenvalues computed in any integrable irreducible highest weight representation. These eigenvalue formulae are shown to absolutely convergent when the deformation parameter $q$ is such that $|q|>1$. It is proven that the universal R-matrix $R$ of $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ satisfies the celebrated conjugation relation $R^\dagger=TR$ with $T$ the usual twist map. As applications, the braid generator is shown to be diagonalizable on arbitrary tenso…
A generalization of the Yang-Baxter algebra is found in quantizing the monodromy matrix of two (m)KdV equations discretized on a space lattice. This braided Yang-Baxter equation still ensures that the transfer matrix generates operators in involution which form the Cartan sub-algebra of the braided quantum group. Representations diagonalizing these operators are described through relying on an easy generalization of Algebraic Bethe Ansatz techniques. The conjecture that this monodromy matrix algebra leads, {\it in the cylinder continuum limit}, to a Perturbed Minimal Conformal Field Theory des…
We construct a flat connection on the elliptic configuration space associated to any complex semisimple Lie algebra g. This elliptic Casimir connection has logarithmic singularities, and takes values in the deformed double current algebra of g defined by Guay. It degenerates to the trigonometric Casimir connection of g constructed by the first author. By analogy with the rational and trigonometric cases, we conjecture that the monodromy of the elliptic Casimir connection is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum toroidal algebra of g.
We find the explicit form of the basic monodromy operators for the case of the quantum group $\mathrm U_q(\mathcal L(\mathfrak{sl}_3))$. Expressions for the quantum Casimir elements of the quantum groups $\mathrm U_q(\mathfrak{gl}_3)$ and $\mathrm U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_3)$ are obtained as a by-product.
We reformulate the De Concini -- Toledano Laredo conjecture about the monodromy of the Casimir connection in terms of a relation between Lusztig's symmetries of quantum group modules and the monodromy in the vanishing cycles of factorizable sheaves.
We derive a structure of $\mathbb{Z}[t,t^{-1}]$-module bundle from a family of Yang-Yang functions. For the fundamental representation of the complex simple Lie algebra of classical type, we give explicit wall-crossing formula and prove that the monodromy representation of the $\mathbb{Z}[t,t^{-1}]$-module bundle is equivalent to the braid group representation induced by the universal R-matrices of $U_{h}(g)$. We show that two transformations induced on the fiber by the symmetry breaking deformation and respectively the rotation of two complex parameters commute with each other.
Let g be a complex, semisimple Lie algebra, G the corresponding simply-connected Lie group and H a maximal torus in G. We construct a flat connection on H with logarithmic singularities on the root hypertori and values in the Yangian Y(g) of g. By analogy with the rational Casimir connection of g, we conjecture that the monodromy of this trigonometric connection is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum loop algebra U_h(Lg).
These are lecture notes prepared for a minicourse given at the Cimpa Research School "Algebraic and geometric aspects of representation theory", held in Curitiba, Brazil in March 2013. The purpose of the course is to provide an introduction to the study of representations of braid groups. Three general classes of representations of braid groups are considered: homological representations via mapping class groups, monodromy representations via the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov connection, and solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation via braided bialgebras. Some of the remarkable relations between these t…
Cactus group is the fundamental group of the real locus of the Deligne-Mumford moduli space of stable rational curves. This group appears naturally as an analog of the braid group in coboundary monoidal categories. We define an action of the cactus group on the set of Bethe vectors of the Gaudin magnet chain corresponding to arbitrary semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. Cactus group appears in our construction as a subgroup in the Galois group of Bethe Ansatz equations. Following the idea of Pavel Etingof, we conjecture that this action is isomorphic to the action of the cactus group on the…
Let $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ be a quantized affine Lie algebra. It is proven that the universal R-matrix $R$ of $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$ satisfies the celebrated conjugation relation $R^\dagger=TR$ with $T$ the usual twist map. As applications, braid generators are shown to be diagonalizable on arbitrary tensor product modules of integrable irreducible highest weight $U_q(\hat{\cal G})$-module and a spectral decomposition formula for the braid generators is obtained which is the generalization of Reshetikhin's and Gould's forms to the present affine case. Casimir invariants are constructed and their eig…
The author, and independently De Concini, conjectured that the monodromy of the Casimir connection of a simple Lie algebra g is described by the quantum Weyl group operators of the quantum group U_h(g). The aim of this paper, and of its sequel [TL4], is to prove this conjecture. The proof relies upon the use of quasi-Coxeter algebras, which are to generalised braid groups what Drinfeld's quasitriangular quasibialgebras are to the Artin braid groups B_n. Using an appropriate deformation cohomology, we reduce the conjecture to the existence of a quasi-Coxeter, quasitriangular quasibialgebra stru…
The zero modes' Fock space for the extended chiral $su(2)$ WZNW model gives room to a realization of the Grothendieck fusion ring of representations of the restricted $U_q sl(2)$ quantum universal enveloping algebra (QUEA) at an even ($2h$-th) root of unity, and of its extension by the Lusztig operators. It is shown that expressing the Drinfeld images of canonical characters in terms of Chebyshev polynomials of the Casimir invariant $C$ allows a streamlined derivation of the characteristic equation of $C$ from the defining relations of the restricted QUEA. The properties of the fusion ring of …
The affine and degenerate affine Birman-Murakami-Wenzl (BMW) algebras arise naturally in the context of Schur-Weyl duality for orthogonal and symplectic quantum groups and Lie algebras, respectively. Cyclotomic BMW algebras, affine and cyclotomic Hecke algebras, and their degenerate versions are quotients. In this paper we explain how the affine and degenerate affine BMW algebras are tantalizers (tensor power centralizer algebras) by defining actions of the affine braid group and the degenerate affine braid algebra on tensor space and showing that, in important cases, these actions induce acti…
Let g be a complex, simple Lie algebra and t a Cartan subalgebra of g. A new unitary, flat connection on t with values in any finite-dimensional g-module V and simple poles along the root hyperplanes was recently introduced by J. Millson and myself. This connection depends upon a complex parameter h and I conjectured that its monodromy is equivalent to the quantum Weyl group representation of the braid group of type g defined by Lusztig, Kirillov-Reshetikhin and Soibelman via the quantum group U_{h}g. In this paper, I prove this conjecture for g=sl_{n}.
Let g be a symmetrisable Kac-Moody algebra, and U_h(g) the corresponding quantum group. We showed in arXiv:1610.09744 and arXiv:1610.09741 that the braided quasi-Coxeter structure on integrable, category O representations of U_h(g) which underlies the R-matrix actions arising from the Levi subalgebras of U_h(g) and the quantum Weyl group action of the generalised braid group B_g can be transferred to integrable, category O representations of g. We prove in this paper that, up to unique equivalence, there is a unique such structure on the latter category with prescribed restriction functors, R-…
