For the family Delta_q, q in [0,1), of the SU_q(2)-comultiplications on the C*-algebra A\cong C(SU_q(2)), we show that there exist unitary operators Omega_q such that Delta_q(x)=Omega_q Delta_0(x) (Omega_q)* for x in A.
A cohomology theory for multiplications and comultiplications of Frobenius algebras is developed in low dimensions in analogy with Hochschild cohomology of bialgebras based on deformation theory. Concrete computations are provided for key examples. Skein theoretic constructions give rise to solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation using multiplications and comultiplications of Frobenius algebras, and 2-cocycles are used to obtain deformations of R-matrices thus obtained.
The generalization of multiplicative unitary notion from compact quantum groups to compact quantum semigroups is considered. We show why the same construction doesn't work in this case by giving examples of C*-algebras with non-trivial comultiplication which do not admit multiplicative unitaries. By the use of the pentagon equation we suggest a notion of an operator which gives comultiplication on any C*-algebra. The multiplicative unitary turns out to be its special case. We prove for some compact quantum semigroups that the comultiplication is given by such operator.
We prove that under a symmetry assumption all cocycles on Hopf *-algebras arise from generating functionals. This extends earlier results of R.Vergnioux and D.Kyed and has two quantum group applications: all quantum Lévy processes with symmetric generating functionals decompose into a maximal Gaussian and purely non-Gaussian part and the Haagerup property for discrete quantum groups is characterized by the existence of an arbitrary proper cocycle.
The dual Lie bialgebra of a certain ``quasitriangular'' Lie bialgebra structure on the Heisenberg Lie algebra determines a (non-compact) Poisson--Lie group G. The compatible Poisson bracket on G is non-linear, but it can still be realized as a ``cocycle perturbation'' of the linear Poisson bracket. We construct a certain twisted group C*-algebra A, which is shown to be a strict deformation quantization of G. Motivated by the data at the Poisson (classical) level, we then construct on A its locally compact quantum group structures: comultiplication, counit, antipode and Haar weight, as well as …
S.L. Woronowicz proved in 1991 that quantum SU(1,1) does not exist as a locally compact quantum group. Results by L.I. Korogodsky in 1994 and more recently by Woronowicz gave strong indications that the normalizer N of SU(1,1) in SL(2,C) is a much better quantization candidate than SU(1,1) itself. In this paper we show that this is indeed the case by constructing N_q, a new example of a unimodular locally compact quantum group (depending on a parameter q) that is a deformation of N. After defining the underlying von Neumann algebra of N_q we use a certain class of q-hypergeometric functions an…
We consider the 2-cocycle deformation of algebras graded by discrete groups. The action of the Maurer-Cartan form on cyclic cohomology is shown to be cohomologous to the cup product action of the group cocycle. This allows us to compute the monodromy of the Gauss-Manin connection in the strict deformation setting.
This paper studies two types of 3-Lie bialgebras whose compatibility conditions between the multiplication and comultiplication are given by local cocycles and double constructions respectively, and are therefore called the local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebra and the double construction 3-Lie bialgebra. They can be regarded as suitable extensions of the well-known Lie bialgebra in the context of 3-Lie algebras, in two different directions. The local cocycle 3-Lie bialgebra is introduced to extend the connection between Lie bialgebras and the classical Yang-Baxter equation. Its relationship with a te…
In this article, we investigate the notion of a Galois object for a locally compact quantum group M. Such an object consists of a von Neumann algebra N equipped with an ergodic integrable coaction of M on N, such that the crossed product is a type I factor. We show how to construct from such a coaction a new locally compact quantum group P, which we call the reflection of M along N. By way of application, we prove the following statement: any twisting of a locally compact quantum group by a unitary 2-cocycle is again a locally compact quantum group.
In the framework of locally compact quantum groups, we study cocycle actions. We develop the cocycle bicrossed product construction, starting from a matched pair of locally compact quantum groups. We define exact sequences and establish a one-to-one correspondence between cocycle bicrossed products and cleft extensions. In this way, we obtain new examples of locally compact quantum groups.
We introduce a method to construct explicitly multiplicative 2-cocycles for bosonizations of Nichols algebras B(V) over Hopf algebras H. These cocycles arise as liftings of H-invariant linear functionals on V tensor V and give a close formula to deform braided commutator-type relations. Using this construction, we show that all known finite dimensional pointed Hopf algebras over the dihedral groups D_m with m=4t > 11, over the symmetric group S_3 and some families over S_4 are cocycle deformations of bosonizations of Nichols algebras.
It is proved that the (volume and orientation-preserving) quantum isometry group of a spectral triple obtained by deformation by some dual unitary 2-cocycle is isomorphic with a similar twist-deformation of the quantum isometry group of the original (undeformed) spectral triple. This result generalizes similar work by Bhowmick and Goswami for Rieffel-deformed spectral triples in [Comm. Math. Phys. 285 (2009), 421-444, arXiv:0707.2648].
We study some aspects of the theory of non-commutative differential calculi over complex algebras, especially over the Hopf algebras associated to compact quantum groups in the sense of S.L. Woronowicz. Our principal emphasis is on the theory of twisted graded traces and their associated twisted cyclic cocycles. One of our principal results is a new method of constructing differential calculi, using twisted graded traces.
One problematic feature of Hall algebras is the fact that the standard multiplication and comultiplication maps do not satisfy the bialgebra compatibility condition in the underlying symmetric monoidal category Vect. In the past this problem has been resolved by working with a weaker structure called a `twisted' bialgebra. In this paper we solve the problem differently by first switching to a different underlying category Vect^K of vector spaces graded by a group K called the Grothendieck group. We equip this category with a nontrivial braiding which depends on the K-grading. With this braidin…
The Krein--Tannaka duality for compact groups was a generalization the Pontryagin--Van Kampen duality for locally compact abelian groups and a remote predecessor of the theory of tensor categories. It is less known that it found applications in algebraic combinatorics (``Krein algebras''). Later, this duality was substantially extended: in \cite{V}, the notion of {\it involutive algebras in positive vector duality} was introduced. In this paper, we reformulate the notions of this theory using the language of bialgebras (and Hopf algebras) and introduce the class of involutive bialgebras and po…
For a given finite dimensional Hopf algebra $H$ we describe the set of all equivalence classes of cocycle deformations of $H$ as an affine variety, using methods of geometric invariant theory. We show how our results specialize to the Universal Coefficients Theorem in the case of a group algebra, and we also give examples from other families of Hopf algebras, including dual group algebras and Bosonizations of Nichols algebras. In particular, we use the methods developed here to classify the cocycle deformations of a dual pointed Hopf algebra associated to the symmetric group on three letters. …
Let $H$ be a Hopf algebra over a commutative ring $k$ with unity and $σ:H\otimes H\longrightarrow k$ be a cocycle on $H$. In this paper, we show that the Yetter-Drinfeld module category of the cocycle deformation Hopf algebra $H^σ$ is equivalent to the Yetter-Drinfeld module category of $H$. As a result of the equivalence, the "quantum Brauer" group BQ$(k,H)$ is isomorphic to BQ$(k,H^σ)$. Moreover, the group $\Gal(\HR)$ constructed in \cite{Z} is studied under a cocycle deformation.
For the current realization of the affine quantum groups, a simple comultiplication for the quantum current operators was given by Drinfeld. With this comultiplication, we prove that, for the integrable modules of $U_q(\hat {\frak sl}(2))$ of level $k+1$, $x^\pm(z)x^\pm(zq^{\pm 2}) \cdot\cdot\cdot x^\pm(zq^{\pm 2k})$ are vertex operators satisfying certain q-difference equations, and we derive the quantum parafermions of $U_q(\hat {\frak sl}(2))$.
The $C^*$-algebraic $κ$-Poincaré Group is constructed. The construction uses groupoid algebras of differential groupoids associated to Lie group decomposition. It turns out the underlying $C^*$-algebra is the same as for "$κ$-Euclidean Group" but a comultiplication is twisted by some unitary multiplier. Generators and commutation relations among them are presented.
A group-theoretical method, via Wada's representations, is presented to distinguish Kishino's virtual knot from the unknot. Biquandles are constructed for any group using Wada's braid group representations. Cocycle invariants for these biquandles are studied. These invariants are applied to show the non-existence of Alexander numberings and checkerboard colorings.
Let $G$ be a finite group and let $π: G \to G'$ be a surjective group homomorphism. Consider the cocycle deformation $L = H^σ$ of the Hopf algebra $H = k^G$ of $k$-valued linear functions on $G$, with respect to some convolution invertible 2-cocycle $σ$. The (normal) Hopf subalgebra $k^{G'} \subseteq k^G$ corresponds to a Hopf subalgebra $L' \subseteq L$. Our main result is an explicit necessary and sufficient condition for the normality of $L'$ in $L$.
The quandle homology theory is generalized to the case when the coefficient groups admit the structure of Alexander quandles, by including an action of the infinite cyclic group in the boundary operator. Theories of Alexander extensions of quandles in relation to low dimensional cocycles are developed in parallel to group extension theories for group cocycles. Explicit formulas for cocycles corresponding to extensions are given, and used to prove non-triviality of cohomology groups for some quandles. The corresponding generalization of the quandle cocycle knot invariants is given, by using the…
We generalize the theory of the second invariant cohomology group $H^2_{\rm inv}(G)$ for finite groups $G$, developed in [Da2,Da3,GK], to the case of affine algebraic groups $G$, using the methods of [EG1,EG2,G]. In particular, we show that for connected affine algebraic groups $G$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$, the map $Θ$ from [GK] is bijective (unlike for some finite groups, as shown in [GK]). This allows us to compute $H^2_{\rm inv}(G)$ in this case, and in particular show that this group is commutative (while for finite groups it can be noncommutative, as shown …
We describe quantum groups given by multiparametric deformations of enveloping algebras of Kac-Moody algebras as a family of pointed Hopf algebras introduced by Andruskiewitsch and Schneider associated to a generalized Cartan matrix. We show that under some assumptions, these Hopf algebras depend only on one parameter on each connected component of the Dynkin diagram, up to a cocycle deformation. In particular, we obtain in this way a known result of Hu, Pei and Rosso.
We introduce a new class of 2-cocycles defined explicitly on the generators of certain multiparameter standard quantum groups. These allow us, through the process of twisting the familiar standard quantum groups, to generate new as well as previously known examples of non-standard quantum groups. In particular we are able to construct generalisations of both the Cremmer-Gervais deformation of SL(3) and the so called esoteric quantum groups of Fronsdal and Galindo in an explicit and straightforward manner.
In this paper, we extend the Drinfeld current realization of quantum affine algebras $U_q(\hat {\gg})$ and of the Yangians in several directions: we construct current operators for non-simple roots of ${\gg}$, define a new braid group action in terms of the current operators and describe the universal R-matrix for the corresponding ``Drinfeld'' comultiplication in the form of infinite product and in the form of certain integrals over current operators.
For the current realization of the affine quantum groups, a simple comultiplication for the quantum current operators was given by Drinfeld. With this comultiplication, we study the zeros and poles of the quantum current operators and present a condition of integrability on the quantum current of $U_q\left(\hat{\frak sl}(2)\right)$, which is a deformation of the corresponding condition for $\hat{\frak sl}(2)$. We also present the results about the zeros and poles of the quantum current operators of $U_q\left(\hat{\frak sl}(n)\right)$.
Three new knot invariants are defined using cocycles of the generalized quandle homology theory that was proposed by Andruskiewitsch and Graña. We specialize that theory to the case when there is a group action on the coefficients. First, quandle modules are used to generalize Burau representations and Alexander modules for classical knots. Second, 2-cocycles valued in non-abelian groups are used in a way similar to Hopf algebra invariants of classical knots. These invariants are shown to be of quantum type. Third, cocycles with group actions on coefficient groups are used to define quandle co…
A classical theorem of Scheunert on $G$-color Lie algebras, asserts in the case of finitely generated abelian groups, one can twist the algebra structure and the commutation bicharacter on $G$ by a 2-cocycle twist to a super-Lie $G$ graded, algebra. In this paper we show that this can be done for an arbitrary group.

In other to study connections and gauge theories on noncommutative spaces it is useful to use the local trivializations of principal bundles. In this note we show how to use noncommutative localization theory to describe a simple version of cocycle data for the bundles on noncommutative schemes with Hopf algebras in the role of the structure group which locally look like Hopf algebraic smash products. We also show how to use these Čech cocycles for associated vector bundles. We sketch briefly some examples related to quantum groups.
The more detailed description of the quantum 'ax+b' group of Baaj and Skandalis is presented. In particular we give generators and present formulae for action of the comultiplication on them; it is also shown that this group is a quantization of a Poisson-Lie structure on a classical 'ax+b' group.
Hexagon relations are algebraic realizations of four-dimensional Pachner moves, and there are hexagon relations admitting nontrivial cohomologies and leading thus to piecewise linear (PL) 4-manifold invariants. We show that some - but not all! - of the known nontrivial cohomologies can be obtained from a single integral bilinear form corresponding to a PL 4-manifold by using a Frobenius homomorphism for a half of `color' variables (or different Frobenius homomorphisms for both halves). This form can be regarded as a sophisticated analogue of the manifold's intersection form.
A heap is a set with a certain ternary operation that is self-distributive (TSD) and exemplified by a group with the operation $(x,y,z)\mapsto xy^{-1}z$. We introduce and investigate framed link invariants using heaps. In analogy with the knot group, we define the fundamental heap of framed links using group presentations. The fundamental heap is determined for some classes of links such as certain families of torus and pretzel links. We show that for these families of links there exist epimorphisms from fundamental heaps to Vinberg and Coxeter groups, implying that corresponding groups are in…
We develop the Baxterization approach to (an extension of) the quantum group GL_q(2). We introduce two matrices which play the role of spectral parameter dependent L-matrices and observe that they are naturally related to two different comultiplications. Using these comultiplication structures, we find the related fundamental R-operators in terms of powers of coproducts and also give their equivalent forms in terms of quantum dilogarithms. The corresponding quantum local Hamiltonians are given in terms of logarithms of positive operators. An analogous construction is developed for the q-oscill…
We give a construction of cyclic cocycles on convolution algebras twisted by gerbes over discrete translation groupoids. For proper étale groupoids, Tu and Xu provide a map between the periodic cyclic cohomology of a gerbe-twisted convolution algebra and twisted cohomology groups which is similar to a construction of Mathai and Stevenson. When the groupoid is not proper, we cannot construct an invariant connection on the gerbe; therefore to study this algebra, we instead develop simplicial techniques to construct a simplicial curvature 3-form representing the class of the gerbe. Then by using …
It is well known that central extensions of a group G correspond to 2-cocycles on G. Cocycles can be used to construct extensions of G-graded algebras via a version of the Drinfeld twist introduced by Majid. We show how 2-cocycles can be defined for an abstract monoidal category C, following Panaite, Staic and Van Oystaeyen. A braiding on C leads to analogues of Nichols algebras in C, and we explain how the recent work on twists of Nichols algebras by Andruskiewitsch, Fantino, Garcia and Vendramin fits in this context. Furthermore, we propose an approach to twisting the multiplication in braid…
A strict 2-group is a 2-category with one object in which all morphisms and all 2-morphisms have inverses. 2-Groups have been studied in the context of homotopy theory, higher gauge theory and Topological Quantum Field Theory (TQFT). In the present article, we develop the notions of trialgebra and cotrialgebra, generalizations of Hopf algebras with two multiplications and one comultiplication or vice versa, and the notion of Hopf categories, generalizations of monoidal categories with an additional functorial comultiplication. We show that each strict 2-group has a `group algebra' which is a c…
