A Smooth Compactification of the Moduli Space of Instantons and Its Application

A triangulation of a homotopy-Deligne-Mumford compactification of the Moduli of curves

We construct a triangulation of a compactification of the Moduli space of a surface with at least one puncture that is closely related to the Deligne-Mumford compactification. Specifically, there is a surjective map from the compactification we construct to the Deligne-Mumford compactification so that the inverse image of each point is contractible. In particular our compactification is homotopy equivalent to the Deligne-Mumford compactification.

On the IRS compactification of moduli space

In arXiv:1503.08402v2 Gelander described a new compactification of the moduli space of finite area hyperbolic surfaces using invariant random subgroups. The goal of this paper is to relate this compactification to the classical augmented moduli space, also known as the Deligne-Mumford compactification. We define a continuous finite-to-one surjection from the augmented moduli space to the IRS compactification. The cardinalities of this map's fibers admit a uniform upper bound that depends only on the topology of the underlying surface.

This paper studies compactifications of moduli spaces involving closed Riemann surfaces. The first main result identifies the homeomorphism types of these compactifications. The second main result introduces orbicell decompositions on these spaces using semistable ribbon graphs extending the earlier work of Looijenga.

An analytic construction of the Deligne-Mumford compactification of the moduli space of curves

In 1969, P. Deligne and D. Mumford compactified the moduli space of curves. Their compactification is a projective algebraic variety, and as such, it has an underlying analytic structure. Alternatively, the quotient of the augmented Teichmueller space by the action of the mapping class group gives a compactification of the moduli space. We put an analytic structure on this compact quotient and prove that with respect to this structure, it is canonically isomorphic (as an analytic space) to the Deligne-Mumford compactification.
