It is well known that between all processes with independent increments, essentially only the Brownian motion and the Poisson process possess the chaotic representation property (CRP). Thus, a natural question appears: What is an appropriate analog of the CRP in the case of a general Lévy process. At least three approaches are possible here. The first one, due to
Itô, uses the CRP of the Brownian motion and the Poisson process, as well as the representation of a Lévy process through those processes. The second approach, due to Nualart and Schoutens, consists in representing any square-integrable random variable as a sum of multiple stochastic integrals constructed with respect to a family of orthogonalized centered power jumps processes. The third approach, never applied before to the Lévy processes, uses the idea of orthogonalization of polynomials with respect to a probability measure defined on the dual of a nuclear space. The main aims of the present paper are to develop the three approaches in the case of a general ($\R$-valued) Lévy process on a Riemannian manifold and (what is more important) to understand a relationship between these approaches. We apply the obtained results to the gamma, Pascal, and Meixner processes, in which case the analysis related to the orthogonalized polynomials becomes essentially simpler and richer than in the general case.
This paper studies new Lancaster characterizations of bivariate multivariate Poisson, negative binomial and normal distributions which have diagonal expansions in multivariate orthogonal polynomials. The characterizations extend classical Lancaster characterizations of bivariate 1-dimensional distributions. Multivariate Poisson-Charlier, Meixner and Hermite-Chebycheff orthogonal polynomials, used in the characterizations, are constructed from classical 1-dimensional orthogonal polynomials and multivariate Krawtchouk polynomials. New classes of transition functions of discrete and continuous ti…
Let $(X_t)_{t\ge0}$ denote a non-commutative monotone Lévy process. Let $ω=(ω(t))_{t\ge0}$ denote the corresponding monotone Lévy noise.. A continuous polynomial of $ω$ is an element of the corresponding non-commutative $L^2$-space $L^2(τ)$ that has the form $\sum_{i=0}^n\langle ω^{\otimes i},f^{(i)}\rangle$, where $f^{(i)}\in C_0(\mathbb R_+^i)$. We denote by $\mathbf{CP}$ the space of all continuous polynomials of $ω$. For $f^{(n)}\in C_0(\mathbb R_+^n)$, the orthogonal polynomial $\langle P^{(n)}(ω),f^{(n)}\rangle$ is defined as the orthogonal projection of the monomial $\langleω^{\otimes n…
Let $T$ be an underlying space with a non-atomic measure $σ$ on it. In [{\it Comm.\ Math.\ Phys.}\ {\bf 292} (2009), 99--129] the Meixner class of non-commutative generalized stochastic processes with freely independent values, $ω=(ω(t))_{t\in T}$, was characterized through the continuity of the corresponding orthogonal polynomials. In this paper, we derive a generating function for these orthogonal polynomials. The first question we have to answer is: What should serve as a generating function for a system of polynomials of infinitely many non-commuting variables? We construct a class of oper…
Multivariate versions of classical orthogonal polynomials such as Jacobi, Hahn, Laguerre and Meixner are reviewed and their connection explored by adopting a probabilistic approach. Hahn and Meixner polynomials are interpreted as posterior mixtures of Jacobi and Laguerre polynomials, respectively. By using known properties of gamma point processes and related transformations, a new infinite-dimensional version of Jacobi polynomials is constructed with respect to the size-biased version of the Poisson--Dirichlet weight measure and to the law of the gamma point process from which it is derived.
We show that stochastic processes with linear conditional expectations and quadratic conditional variances are Markov, and their transition probabilities are related to a three-parameter family of orthogonal polynomials which generalize the Meixner polynomials. Special cases of these processes are known to arise from the non-commutative generalizations of the Levy processes.
Let $ν$ be a finite measure on $\mathbb R$ whose Laplace transform is analytic in a neighborhood of zero. An anyon Lévy white noise on $(\mathbb R^d,dx)$ is a certain family of noncommuting operators $\langleω,φ\rangle$ in the anyon Fock space over $L^2(\mathbb R^d\times\mathbb R,dx\otimesν)$. Here $φ=φ(x)$ runs over a space of test functions on $\mathbb R^d$, while $ω=ω(x)$ is interpreted as an operator-valued distribution on $\mathbb R^d$. Let $L^2(τ)$ be the noncommutative $L^2$-space generated by the algebra of polynomials in variables $\langle ω,φ\rangle$, where $τ$ is the vacuum expectat…
We obtain factorial moment identities for the Charlier, Meixner and Krawtchouk orthogonal polynomial ensembles. Building on earlier results by Ledoux [Elect. J. Probab. 10, (2005)], we find hypergeometric representations for the factorial moments when the reference measure is Poisson (Charlier ensemble) and geometric (a particular case of the Meixner ensemble). In these cases, if the number of particles is suitably randomised, the factorial moments have a polynomial property, and satisfy three-term recurrence relations and differential equations. In particular, the normalised factorial moments…
Let $T$ be an underlying space with a non-atomic measure $σ$ on it (e.g. $T=\mathbb R^d$ and $σ$ is the Lebesgue measure). We introduce and study a class of non-commutative generalized stochastic processes, indexed by points of $T$, with freely independent values. Such a process (field), $ω=ω(t)$, $t\in T$, is given a rigorous meaning through smearing out with test functions on $T$, with $\int_T σ(dt)f(t)ω(t)$ being a (bounded) linear operator in a full Fock space. We define a set $\mathbf{CP}$ of all continuous polynomials of $ω$, and then define a con-commutative $L^2$-space $L^2(τ)$ by taki…
We study a class of interacting particle systems with asymmetric interaction showing a self-duality property. The class includes the ASEP($q,θ$), asymmetric exclusion process, with a repulsive interaction, allowing up to $θ\in \mathbb{N}$ particles in each site, and the ASIP$(q,θ)$, $θ\in \mathbb{R}^+$, asymmetric inclusion process, that is its attractive counterpart. We extend to the asymmetric setting the investigation of orthogonal duality properties done in [8] for symmetric processes. The analysis leads to multivariate $q-$analogues of Krawtchouk polynomials and Meixner polynomials as ort…
Let $ν_{α,q}$ be the probability and orthogonality measure for the $q$-Meixner-Pollaczek orthogonal polynomials, which has appeared in \cite{BEH15} as the distribution of the $(α,q)$-Gaussian process (the Gaussian process of type B) over the $(α,q)$-Fock space (the Fock space of type B). The main purpose of this paper is to find the radial Bargmann representation of $ν_{α,q}$. Our main results cover not only the representation of $q$-Gaussian distribution by \cite{LM95}, but also of $q^2$-Gaussian and symmetric free Meixner distributions on $\mathbb R$. In addition, non-trivial commutation rel…
The paper deals with a 3-parameter family of probability measures on the set of partitions, called the z-measures. The z-measures first emerged in connection with the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite symmetric group. They are a special and distinguished case of Okounkov's Schur measures. It is known that any Schur measure determines a determinantal point process on the 1-dimensional lattice. In the particular case of z-measures, the correlation kernel of this process, called the discrete hypergeometric kernel, has especially nice properties. The aim of the paper is to derive the di…
In this paper we derive intertwining relations for a broad class of conservative particle systems both in discrete and continuous setting. Using the language of point process theory, we are able to derive a natural framework in which duality and intertwining can be formulated. We prove falling factorial and orthogonal polynomial intertwining relations in a general setting. These intertwinings unite the previously found classical and orthogonal self-dualities in the context of discrete particle systems and provide new dualities for several interacting systems in the continuum. We also introduce…
We derive an explicit formula for the Jacobi field that is acting in an extended Fock space and corresponds to an ($\R$-valued) Lévy process on a Riemannian manifold. The support of the measure of jumps in the Lévy--Khintchine representation for the Lévy process is supposed to have an infinite number of points. We characterize the gamma, Pascal, and Meixner processes as the only Lévy processes whose Jacobi field leaves the set of finite continuous elements of the extended Fock space invariant.
In this article we consider the Levy processes and the corresponding semigroup. We represent the generator of this semigroup in a convolution form. Using the obtained convolution form and the theory of integral equations we investigate the properties of a wide class of Levy processes (potential, quasi-potential, the probability of the Levy process remaining within the given domain, long time behavior, stable processes). We analyze in detail a number of concrete examples of the Levy processes (stable processes, the variance damped Levy processes, the variance gamma processes, the normal Gaussia…
Sets of orthogonal martingales are importants because they can be used as stochastic integrators in a kind of chaotic representation property, see [20]. In this paper, we revisited the problem studied by W. Schoutens in [21], investigating how an inner product derived from an Uvarov transformation of the Laguerre weight function is used in the orthogonalization procedure of a sequence of martingales related to a certain Lévy process, called Teugels Martingales. Since the Uvarov transformation depends by a c<0, we are able to provide infinite sets of strongly orthogonal martingales, each one fo…
This thesis deals with some $(1+1)$-dimensional lattice path models from the KPZ universality class: the directed random polymer with inverse-gamma weights (known as log-gamma polymer) and its zero temperature degeneration, i.e. the last passage percolation model, with geometric or exponential waiting times. We consider three path geometries: point-to-line, point-to-half-line, and point-to-line with paths restricted to stay in a half-plane. Through exact formulas, we establish new connections between integrable probabilistic models and the ubiquitous Whittaker and Schur functions. More in deta…
