Yet another heat semigroup characterization of BV functions on Riemannian manifolds

This paper provides a characterization of functions of bounded variation (BV) in a compact Riemannian manifold in terms of the short time behavior of the heat semigroup. In particular, the main result proves that the total variation of a function equals the limit characterizing the space BV. The proof is carried out following two fully independent approaches, a probabilistic and an analytic one. Each method presents different advantages.

Direct and inverse conversion formulas associated with Khabibullin's conjecture for integral inequalities

Khabibullin's conjecture deals with two linear integral inequalities for some non-negative continuous function $q(t)$. The integral in the first of these two inequalities converts $q(t)$ into another function of one variable $g(t)$. This integral yields the direct conversion formula. An inverse conversion formula means a formula expressing $q(t)$ back through $g(t)$. Such an inverse conversion formula is derived.

Yet Another Proof of the Joint Convexity of Relative Entropy

The joint convexity of the map $(X,A) \mapsto X^* A^{-1} X$, an integral representation of operator convex functions, and an observation of Ando are used to obtain a simple proof of both the joint convexity of relative entropy and a trace convexity result of Lieb. The latter was the key ingredient in the original proof of the strong subadditivity of quantum entropy.

Yet another note on the arithmetic-geometric mean inequality

It was shown by E. Gluskin and V.D. Milman in [GAFA Lecture Notes in Math. 1807, 2003] that the classical arithmetic-geometric mean inequality can be reversed (up to a multiplicative constant) with high probability, when applied to coordinates of a point chosen with respect to the surface unit measure on a high-dimensional Euclidean sphere.
