On the hypersurface orbital varieties of sl(N,C)

We study the structure of hypersurface orbital varieties of sl(N,C) (those that are hypersurfaces in the nilradical of some parabolic subalgebra) and how information about this structure is encoded in the standard Young tableau associated to it by the Robinson-Schensted algorithm. We present a conjecture for the exact form of the unique non-linear defining equations of hypersurface orbital varieties and proofs of the conjecture in certain cases.

We correct the proof of the main result of an earlier paper, parametrizing orbital varieties in a complex simple Lie algebra of type $B$ or $C$ in terms of domino tableaux and showing how to compute the orbital variety attached to an element of the Weyl group in either of these types.

Quantization of hypersurface orbital varieties in sl(n)

Let g be a semisimple Lie algebra with h a Cartan subalgebra. The orbit method attempts to assign representations of g to orbits in g*. Orbital varieties are particular Lagrangian subvarieties of such orbits which should lead to highest weight representations of g. Grothendieck classes of quadric hypersurfaces and involution varieties

In this article, by combining the recent theory of noncommutative motives with the classical theory of motives, we prove that if two quadrics (or, more generally, two involution varieties) have the same Grothendieck class, then they have the same even Clifford algebra and the same signature. As an application, we show in numerous cases (e.g., when the base field is a local or global field) that two quadrics (or, more generally, two involution varieties) have the same Grothendieck class if and only if they are isomorphic.

Generalized orbital varieties for Mirkovic-Vybornov slices as affinizations of Mirkovic-Vilonen cycles

We show that generalized orbital varieties for Mirkovic-Vybornov slices can be indexed by semi-standard Young tableaux. We also check that the Mirkovic-Vybornov isomorphism sends generalized orbital varieties to (dense subsets of) Mirkovic-Vilonen cycles, such that the (combinatorial) Lusztig datum of a generalized orbital variety, which it inherits from its tableau, is equal to the (geometric) Lusztig datum of its MV cycle.

On the existence of smooth orbital varieties in simple Lie algebras

The orbital varieties are the irreducible components of the intersection between a nilpotent orbit and a Borel subalgebra of the Lie algebra of a reductive group. There is a geometric correspondence between orbital varieties and irreducible components of Springer fibers. In type A, a construction due to Richardson implies that every nilpotent orbit contains at least one smooth orbital variety and every Springer fiber contains at least one smooth component. On varieties in an orbital variety closure in semisimple Lie algebra

Let g be a semisimple complex Lie algebra. Let O be a nilpotent orbit in g. Fix a triangular decomposition g=n+h+n^-. An irreducible component of the intersection of O and n is called an orbital variety associated to O. It is a Lagrangian subvariety of O. In this note we discuss the closure of an orbital variety as a union of varieties.
