The famous Lomonosov's invariant subspace theorem states that if a continuous linear operator T on an infinite-dimensional normed space E "commutes" with a compact nonzero operator K, i.e., TK=KT, then T has a non-trivial closed invariant subspace. We generalize this theorem for multivalued linear operators.

Pontryagin-Krein Theorem: Lomonosov's proof and related results

We discuss Lomonosov's proof of the Pontryagin-Krein Theorem on invariant maximal non-positive subspaces, prove the refinement of one theorem from \cite{OShT} on common fixed points for a group of fractional-linear maps of operator ball and deduce its consequences. Some Burnside-type counterparts of the Pontryagin-Krein Theorem are also considered.

Lomonosov's theorem cannot be extended to chains of four operators

We show that the celebrated Lomonosov theorem cannot be improved by increasing the number of commuting operators. Specifically, we prove that if T is the operator on l_1 without a non-trivial closed invariant subspace constructed by C.J.Read, then there are three operators S_1, S_2 and K (non-multiples of the identity) such that T commutes with S_1, S_1 commutes with S_2, S_2 commutes with K, and K is compact. It is also shown that the commutant of T contains only series of T.

Localizing algebras and invariant subspaces

It is shown that the algebra $L^\infty(μ)$ of all bounded measurable functions with respect to a finite measure $μ$ is localizing on the Hilbert space $L^2(μ)$ if and only if the measure $μ$ has an atom. A local spectral condition for strong compactness with some applications to bilateral weighted shifts

An algebra of bounded linear operators on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if its unit ball is precompact in the strong operator topology, and a bounded linear operator on a Banach space is said to be {\em strongly compact} if the algebra with identity generated by the operator is strongly compact. A canonical decomposition for linear operators and linear relations

An arbitrary linear relation (multivalued operator) acting from one Hilbert space to another Hilbert space is shown to be the sum of a closable operator and a singular relation whose closure is the Cartesian product of closed subspaces. This decomposition can be seen as an analog of the Lebesgue decomposition of a measure into a regular part and a singular part. The two parts of a relation are characterized metrically and in terms of Stone's characteristic projection onto the closure of the linear relation.

Let $A$ be a, not necessarily closed, linear relation in a Hilbert space $\sH$ with a multivalued part $\mul A$.
