The categories of almost modules and almost algebras are introduced as a convenient setting for the development of Faltings' method of almost etale extensions. After some preliminaries of general "almost homological algebra" we construct the almost version of the cotangent complex and we use it to generalise some results of Faltings on the lifting of almost etale morphisms and almost etale algebras over nilpotent extensions. We also study the "almost trace" of an almost flat and almost finitely presented morphism, in particular we show that the almost trace is (almost) perfect if and only if the morphism is almost etale. Finally we study some cases of non-flat descent for almost rings, and establish the invariance of almost etale morphisms under Frobenius.
In this short notes, we prove a stronger version of Theorem 0.6 in our previous paper arXiv:1709.01485: Given a smooth log scheme $(\mathcal{X} \supset \mathcal{D})_{W(\mathbb{F}_q)}$, each stable twisted $f$-periodic logarithmic Higgs bundle $(E,θ)$ over the closed fiber $(X \supset D)_{\mathbb{F}_q}$ will correspond to a $\mathrm{PGL}_r(\mathbb{F}_{p^f})$-crystalline representation of $π_1((\mathcal{X} \setminus \mathcal{D})_{W(\mathbb{F}_q)[\frac{1}{p}]})$ such that its restriction to the geometric fundamental group is absolutely irreducible.
Let $K$ be a field of characteristic zero complete for a discrete valuation, with perfect residue field of characteristic $p>0$, and let $K^+$ be the valuation ring of $K$. We relate the log-crystalline cohomology of the special fibre of certain affine $K^+$-schemes $X=\text{Spec}(R)$ with semi-stable reduction to the Galois cohomology of the fundamental group of the geometric generic fibre $π_1(X_{\bar{K}})$ with coefficients in a Fontaine ring constructed from $R$. This is based on Faltings' theory of almost étale extensions.
We extend Faltings's "almost purity theorem" on finite etale extensions of perfectoid algebras (as generalized by Scholze and Kedlaya-Liu) to the ramified case, without restriction on the discriminant. The key point is a perfectoid version of Riemann's extension theorem. Categorical aspects of uniform Banach algebras and perfectoid algebras are revisited beforehand.
An example is given of a UFD which has infinitely generated Derksen invariant. The ring is \textquotedblleft almost rigid\textquotedblright\ meaning that the Derksen invariant is equal to the Makar-Limanov invariant. Techniques to show that a ring is (almost) rigid are discussed, among which is a generalization of Mason's abc-theorem.
This is release 7.5 of our project, aiming to provide a complete treatment of the foundations of almost ring theory, following and extending Faltings's method of "almost etale extensions". The central result is the "almost purity theorem", for whose proof we adapt Scholze's method, based on his perfectoid spaces. This release provides the foundations for our generalization of Scholze's perfectoid spaces, and reduces the proof of the almost purity theorem to a general assertion concerning the étale topology of adic spaces, whose proof uses previous work by the first author. As usual, this new r…
We develop almost ring theory, which is a domain of mathematics somewhere halfway between ring theory and category theory (whence the difficulty of finding appropriate MSC-class numbers). We apply this theory to valuation theory and to p-adic analytic geometry. You should really have a look at the introductions (each chapter has one).
Assume that $p>2$, and let $\mathscr{O}_K$ be a $p$-adic discrete valuation ring with residue field admitting a finite $p$-basis, and let $R$ be a formally smooth formally finite-type $\mathscr{O}_K$-algebra. (Indeed, we allow slightly more general rings $R$.) We construct an anti-equivalence of categories between the categories of $p$-divisible groups over $R$ and certain semi-linear algebra objects which generalise $(φ,\mathfrak{S})$-modules of height $\leqslant1$ (or Kisin modules). A similar classification result for $p$-power order finite flat group schemes is deduced from the classificat…
We study Cox rings of normal threefolds on which SL2 acts with a dense orbit. Exploiting the method of U-invariants, we obtain combinatorial criteria for the total coordinate space and the base variety to have log terminal singularities. Then, we investigate the iteration of Cox rings and obtain a bound on its length. Finally, we develop a general approach to the description of the Cox ring by generators and relations which is effective for normal SL2 /$μ$n-embeddings.
As a formulation of 'codimension-two arguments' in invariant theory, we define a (rational) almost principal bundle. It is a principal bundle off closed subsets of codimension two or more. We discuss the behavior of the category of reflexive modules over locally Krull schemes, the category of the coherent sheaves which satisfy Serre's condition $(S'_2)$ over Noetherian $(S_2)$ schemes with dualizing complexes, the class group, the canonical module, the Frobenius pushforwards, and global $F$-regularity, of a rational almost principal bundle. We give examples of finite group schemes, multisectio…
This paper is the fourth in a series of four papers aiming to describe the (almost integral) Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_3$, the moduli stack of stable curves of genus $3$. In this paper, we finally compute the Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_3$ with $\mathbb{Z}[1/6]$-coefficients.
This paper is the third in a series of four papers aiming to describe the (almost integral) Chow ring of $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_3$, the moduli stack of stable curves of genus $3$. In this paper, we compute the Chow ring of $\widetilde{\mathcal{M}}_3^7$ with $\mathbb{Z}[1/6]$-coefficients.
In this article, we study the rational cohomology rings of Voisin's punctual Hilbert schemes $X^{[n]}$ associated to a symplectic compact fourfold $X$. We prove that these rings can be universally constructed from $H^*(X,\mathbb{Q})$ and $c_1(X)$, and that Ruan's crepant resolution conjecture holds if $c_1(X)$ is a torsion class. Next, we prove that for any almost-complex compact fourfold $X$, the complex cobordism class of $X^{[n]}$ depends only on the cobordism class of $X$.
