The spectral branching behavior of the 2x2 operator matrix of the magneto-hydrodynamic alpha^2-dynamo is analyzed numerically. Some qualitative aspects of level crossings are briefly discussed with the help of a simple toy model which is based on a Z_2-graded-pseudo-Hermitian 2x2 matrix. The considered issues comprise: the underlying SU(1,1) symmetry and the Krein space structure of the system, exceptional points of branching type and diabolic points, as well as the algebraic and geometric multiplicity of corresponding degenerate eigenvalues.

Isospectrality of spherical MHD dynamo operators: pseudo-Hermiticity and a no-go theorem

The isospectrality problem is studied for the operator of the spherical hydromagnetic alpha^2-dynamo. It is shown that this operator is formally pseudo-Hermitian (J-symmetric) and lives in a Krein space. Based on the J-symmetry, an operator intertwining Ansatz with first-order differential intertwining operators is tested for its compatibility with the structure of the alpha^2-dynamo operator matrix. MHD alpha^2-dynamo, Squire equation and PT-symmetric interpolation between square well and harmonic oscillator

It is shown that the alpha^2-dynamo of Magnetohydrodynamics, the hydrodynamic Squire equation as well as an interpolation model of PT-symmetric Quantum Mechanics are closely related as spectral problems in Krein spaces. For the alpha^2-dynamo and the PT-symmetric model the strong similarities are demonstrated with the help of a 2x2 operator matrix representation, whereas the Squire equation is re-interpreted as a rescaled and Wick-rotated PT-symmetric problem. Krein space related perturbation theory for MHD alpha-2-dynamos and resonant unfolding of diabolical points

The spectrum of the spherically symmetric alpha-2 dynamo is studied in the case of idealized boundary conditions. Starting from the exact analytical solutions of models with constant alpha-profiles a perturbation theory and a Galerkin technique are developed in a Krein-space approach. With the help of these tools a very pronounced alpha-resonance pattern is found in the deformations of the spectral mesh as well as in the unfolding of the diabolical points located at the nodes of this mesh. MHD-Drift Equations: from Langmuir circulations to MHD-dynamo?

We have derived the closed system of averaged MHD-equations for general oscillating flows, which are purely oscillating in the main approximation. We have used the mathematical approach which combines the two-timing method and the notion of the distinguished limit. Properties of the commutators are used to simplify calculations. The direct connection with a vortex dynamo (or the Langmuir circulations) has been demonstrated and a conjecture on the MHD-dynamo has been formulated.

Third order spectral branch points in Krein space related setups: PT-symmetric matrix toy model, MHD alpha^2-dynamo, and extended Squire equation

The spectra of self-adjoint operators in Krein spaces are known to possess real sectors as well as sectors of pair-wise complex conjugate eigenvalues. A globally diagonalizable alpha^2-dynamo operator, SUSY QM and the Dirac equation

A new class of semi-analytically solvable MHD alpha^2-dynamos is found based on a global diagonalization of the matrix part of the dynamo differential operator. Close parallels to SUSY QM are used to relate these models to the Dirac equation and to extract non-numerical information about the dynamo spectrum.

The spherically symmetric alpha2-dynamo and some of its spectral peculiarities

A brief overview is given over recent results on the spectral properties of spherically symmetric MHD alpha2-dynamos. In particular, the spectra of sphere-confined fluid or plasma configurations with physically realistic boundary conditions (BCs) (surrounding vacuum) and with idealized BCs (super-conducting surrounding) are discussed.
