Inverse scattering method for a soliton cellular automaton

A set of action-angle variables for a soliton cellular automaton is obtained. It is identified with the rigged configuration, a well-known object in Bethe ansatz. Regarding it as the set of scattering data an inverse scattering method to solve initial value problems of this automaton is presented. By considering partition functions for this system a new interpretation of a fermionic character formula is obtained.

Level Set Structure of an Integrable Cellular Automaton

Based on a group theoretical setting a sort of discrete dynamical system is constructed and applied to a combinatorial dynamical system defined on the set of certain Bethe ansatz related objects known as the rigged configurations. This system is then used to study a one-dimensional periodic cellular automaton related to discrete Toda lattice. It is shown for the first time that the level set of this cellular automaton is decomposed into connected components and every such component is a torus.

Soliton cellular automaton associated with $G_2^{(1)}$ crystal base

We calculate the combinatorial $R$ matrix for all elements of $\mathcal{B}_l\otimes \mathcal{B}_1$ where $\mathcal{B}_l$ denotes the $G_2^{(1)}$-perfect crystal of level $l$, and then study the soliton cellular automaton constructed from it. The solitons of length $l$ are identified with elements of the $A_1^{(1)}$-crystal $\tilde{\mathcal{B}}_{3l}$. The scattering rule for our soliton cellular automaton is identified with the combinatorial $R$ matrix for $A_1^{(1)}$-crystals.

Analysis of a particle antiparticle description of a soliton cellular automaton

We present a derivation of a formula that gives dynamics of an integrable cellular automaton associated with crystal bases. This automaton is related to type D affine Lie algebra and contains usual box-ball systems as a special case. The dynamics is described by means of such objects as carriers, particles, and antiparticles. We derive it from an analysis of a recently obtained formula of the combinatorial R (an intertwiner between tensor products of crystals) that was found in a study of geometric crystals.

Separation of colour degree of freedom from dynamics in a soliton cellular automaton

We present an algorithm to reduce the coloured box-ball system, a one dimensional integrable cellular automaton described by motions of several colour (kind) of balls, into a simpler monochrome system. This algorithm extracts the colour degree of freedom of the automaton as a word which turns out to be a conserved quantity of this dynamical system. It is based on the theory of crystal basis and in particular on the tensor products of sl_n crystals of symmetric and anti-symmetric tensor representations.

Discrete Schrödinger equation on finite field and associated cellular automaton

The discrete Schrödinger equation with potential belonging to $\F_{2}$ is solved explicitly. On this base the associated (1+1)-dimensional cellular automaton is examined and corresponding set of integrals of motions is constructed.

Analytic approach to stochastic cellular automata: exponential and inverse power distributions out of Random Domino Automaton

Inspired by extremely simplified view of the earthquakes we propose the stochastic domino cellular automaton model exhibiting avalanches. From elementary combinatorial arguments we derive a set of nonlinear equations describing the automaton. Exact relations between the average parameters of the model are presented. Depending on imposed triggering, the model reproduces both exponential and inverse power statistics of clusters.

Invariant Measures and Convergence for Cellular Automaton 184 and Related Processes

For a class of one-dimensional cellular automata, we review and complete the characterization of the invariant measures (in particular, all invariant phase separation measures), the rate of convergence to equilibrium, and the derivation of the hydrodynamic limit. Path-integral solution of the one-dimensional Dirac quantum cellular automaton

Quantum cellular automata have been recently considered as a fundamental approach to quantum field theory, resorting to a precise automaton, linear in the field, for the Dirac equation in one dimension. In such linear case a quantum automaton is isomorphic to a quantum walk, and a convenient formulation can be given in terms of transition matrices, leading to a new kind of discrete path integral that we solve analytically in terms of Jacobi polynomials versus the arbitrary mass parameter.

Exact Solutions and Flow--Density Relations for a Cellular Automaton Variant of the Optimal Velocity Model with the Slow-to-Start Effect

A set of exact solutions for a cellular automaton, which is a hybrid of the optimal velocity and the slow-to-start models, is presented. The solutions allow coexistence of free flows and jamming or slow clusters, which is observed in asymptotic behaviors of numerically obtained spatio-temporal patterns. An exact expression of the flow--density relation given by the exact solutions of the model agrees with an empirical formula for numerically obtained flow--density relations.

A novel Recurrence-Transience transition and Tracy-Widom growth in a cellular automaton with quenched noise

We study the growing patterns formed by a deterministic cellular automaton, the rotor-router model, in the presence of quenched noise. By the detailed study of two cases, we show that: (a) the boundary of the pattern displays KPZ fluctuations with a Tracy-Widom distribution, (b) as one increases the amount of randomness, the rotor-router path undergoes a transition from a recurrent to a transient walk. This transition is analysed here for the first time, and it is shown that it falls in the 3D Anisotropic Directed Percolation universality class.

We propose a discrete spacetime formulation of quantum electrodynamics in one-dimension (a.k.a the Schwinger model) in terms of quantum cellular automata, i.e. translationally invariant circuits of local quantum gates. Cellular automata and Lyapunov exponents

In this article we give a new definition of some analog of Lyapunov exponents for cellular automata . Then for a shift ergodic and cellular automaton invariant probability measure we establish an inequality between the entropy of the automaton, the entropy of the shift and the Lyapunov exponent.
