We consider a many particle quantum system, in which each particle interacts only with its nearest neighbours. Provided that the energy per particle has an upper bound, we show, that the energy distribution of almost every product state becomes a Gaussian normal distribution in the limit of infinite number of particles. We indicate some possible applications.
In this article the linear Boltzmann equation is derived for a particle interacting with a Gaussian random field, in the weak coupling limit, with renewal in time of the random field. The initial data can be chosen arbitrarily. The proof is geometric and involves coherent states and semi-classical calculus.
We consider a small and fixed number of fermions in an isolated one-dimensional trap (microcanonical ensemble). The ground state of the system is defined at T=0, with the lowest single-particle levels occupied. The number of particles in this ground state fluctuates as a function of excitation energy. By breaking up the energy spectrum into particle and hole sectors, and mapping the problem onto the classic number partitioning theory, we formulate a new method to calculate the exact particle number fluctuation more efficiently than the direct combinatorics method. The exact ground state number…
We study the Circular and Jacobi $β$-Ensembles and prove Gaussian fluctuations for the number of points in one or more intervals in the macroscopic scaling limit.
We investigate in this work the effects of interaction on the fluctuation of empirical measures. The systems with positive definite interaction potentials tend to exhibit smaller fluctuation compared to the fluctuation in standard Monte Carlo sampling while systems with negative definite potentials tend to exhibit larger fluctuation. Moreover, if the temperature goes to zero, the fluctuation for positive definite kernels in the long time tends to vanish to zero, while the fluctuation for negative definite kernels in the long time tends to blow up to infinity. This phenomenon may gain deeper un…
In self-interacting scalar field theories kinetic expansion is an alternative way of calculating the generating functional for Green's functions where the zeroth order non-Gaussian path integral becomes diagonal in x-space and reduces to the product of an ordinary integral at each point which can be evaluated exactly. We discuss how to deal with such functional integrals and propose a new perturbative expansion scheme which combines the elements of the kinetic expansion with that of usual perturbation theory. It is then shown that, when the cutoff dependent bare parameters in the potential are…
We investigate the spectral fluctuation properties of constrained ensembles of random matrices (defined by the condition that a number N(Q) of matrix elements vanish identically; that condition is imposed in unitarily invariant form) in the limit of large matrix dimension. We show that as long as N(Q) is smaller than a critical value (at which the quadratic level repulsion of the Gaussian unitary ensemble of random matrices may be destroyed) all spectral fluctuation measures have the same form as for the Gaussian unitary ensemble.
While plenty of results have been obtained for single-particle quantum systems with chaotic dynamics through a semiclassical theory, much less is known about quantum chaos in the many-body setting. We contribute to recent efforts to make a semiclassical analysis of many-body systems feasible. This is nontrivial due to both the enormous density of states and the exponential proliferation of periodic orbits with the number of particles. As a model system we study kicked interacting spin chains employing semiclassical methods supplemented by a newly developed duality approach. We show that for th…
Products of random $2\times 2$ matrices exhibit Gaussian fluctuations around almost surely convergent Lyapunov exponents. In this paper, the distribution of the random matrices is supported by a small neighborhood of order $λ>0$ of the identity matrix. The Lyapunov exponent and the variance of the Gaussian fluctuations are calculated perturbatively in $λ$ and this requires a detailed analysis of the associated random dynamical system on the unit circle and its invariant measure. The result applies to anomalies and band edges of one-dimensional random Schrödinger operators.
For random matrix ensembles with non-gaussian matrix elements that may exhibit some correlations, it is shown that centered traces of polynomials in the matrix converge in distribution to a Gaussian process whose covariance matrix is diagonal in the basis of Chebyshev polynomials. The proof is combinatorial and adapts Wigner's argument showing the convergence of the density of states to the semicircle law.
We study central limit theorems for a totally asymmetric, one-dimensional interacting random system. The models we work with are the Aldous-Diaconis-Hammersley process and the related stick model. The A-D-H process represents a particle configuration on the line, or a 1-dimensional interface on the plane which moves in one fixed direction through random local jumps. The stick model is the process of local slopes of the A-D-H process, and has a conserved quantity. The results describe the fluctuations of these systems around the deterministic evolution to which the random system converges under…
We prove the two dimensional KPZ equation with a logarithmically tuned nonlinearity and a small coupling constant, scales to the Edwards-Wilkinson equation with an effective variance.
We prove that the Gärtner--Ellis generating function of probability distributions associated with KMS states of weakly interacting fermions on the lattice can be written as the limit of logarithms of Gaussian Berezin integrals. The covariances of the Gaussian integrals are shown to have a uniform Pfaffian bound and to be summable in general cases of interest, including systems that are not translation invariant. The Berezin integral representation can thus be used to obtain convergent expansions of the generating function in terms of powers of its parameter. The derivation and analysis of the …
We consider a system of $N$ bosons in the limit $N \rightarrow \infty$, interacting through singular potentials. For initial data exhibiting Bose-Einstein condensation, the many-body time evolution is well approximated through a quadratic fluctuation dynamics around a cubic non-linear Schrödinger equation of the condensate wave function. We show that these fluctuations satisfy a (multi-variate) central limit theorem.
We study the classical XY model in bounded domains of $\mathbb{Z}^{d}$ with Dirichlet boundary conditions. We prove that when the temperature goes to zero faster than a certain rate as the lattice spacing goes to zero, the fluctuation field converges to a standard Gaussian white noise. This and related results also apply to a large class of gradient field models.
We consider global fluctuations of the spectrum of the GUE. Using results on the linear statistics of such matrices as well as variance bounds on the eigenvalues, we show that under a suitable scaling, global fluctuations of the spectrum can be asymptotically described in terms of a logarithmically correlated Gaussian field. We also discuss briefly connections between different objects in RMT giving rise to log-correlated fields: the logarithm of the absolute value of the characteristic polynomial, the eigenvalue counting function, and the field of fluctuations of the eigenvalues around their …
We obtain the large scale limit of the fluctuations around its hydrodynamic limit of the density of particles of a weakly asymmetric exclusion process in dimension up to three. The proof is based upon a sharp estimate on the relative entropy of the law of the process with respect to product reference measures associated to the hydrodynamic limit profile, which holds in any dimension and is of independent interest. As a corollary of this entropy estimate, we obtain some quantitative bounds on the speed of convergence of the aforementioned hydrodynamic limit.
We study fluctuations of the empirical processes of a non-equilibrium interacting particle system consisting of two species over a domain that is recently introduced in [8] and establish its functional central limit theorem. This fluctuation limit is a distribution-valued Gaussian Markov process which can be represented as a mild solution of a stochastic partial differential equation. The drift of our fluctuation limit involves a new partial differential equation with nonlinear coupled term on the interface that characterized the hydrodynamic limit of the system. The covariance structure of th…
This is the second of two articles on the study of a particle system model that exhibits a Turing instability type effect. About the hydrodynamic quations obtained in \cite{CSL17a}, we find conditions under which Turing instability occurs around the null equilibrium solution. In this instability regime: for long times at which the process is of infinitesimal order, we prove that the non-equilibrium fluctuations around the hydrodynamic limit are Gaussian; for times converging to the critical one at which the process is of finite order, we prove that the $\pm 1$-Fourier modes are uniformly away …
While the Macroscopic Fluctuation Theory (MFT) is a renormalized theory in the hydrodynamic limit based on a space-time local Lagrangian that is Gaussian with respect to the empirical current, C. Maes, K. Netocny and B. Wynants [Markov Proc. Rel. Fields. 14, 445 (2008)] have derived a microscopic Fluctuation Theory (mFT) for independent Markov jump processes based on a space-time local Lagrangian that is Poissonian with respect to the empirical flow, in direct relation with the general theory of large deviations at 'Level 2.5' for Markovian processes. Here we describe how this approach can be …
We prove that the Airy process, A(t), locally fluctuates like a Brownian motion. In the same spirit we also show that in a certain scaling limit, the so called discrete polynuclear growth (PNG) process behaves like a Brownian motion.
The Gaussian entire function is a random entire function, characterised by a certain invariance with respect to isometries of the plane. We study the fluctuations of the increment of the argument of the Gaussian entire function along planar curves. We introduce an inner product on finite formal linear combinations of curves (with real coefficients), that we call the signed length, which describes the limiting covariance of the increment. We also establish asymptotic normality of fluctuations.
We consider systems of $N$ diffusions in equilibrium interacting through a potential $V$. We study a "height function" which for the special choice $V(x) = \e^{-x}$, coincides with the partition function of a stationary semidiscrete polymer, also known as the (stationary) O'Connell-Yor polymer. For a general class of smooth convex potentials (generalizing the O'Connell-Yor case), we obtain the order of fluctuations of the height function by proving matching upper and lower bounds for the variance of order $N^{2/3}$, the expected scaling for models lying in the KPZ universality class. The model…
In this short note, we prove a central limit theorem for a type of replica overlap of the Brownian directed polymer in a Gaussian random environment, in the low temperature regime and in all dimensions. The proof relies on a superconcentration result for the KPZ equation driven by a spatially mollified noise, which is inspired by the recent work of Chatterjee \cite{C1}.
We study non-equilibrium statistical mechanics of a Gaussian dynamical system and compute in closed form the large deviation functionals describing the fluctuations of the entropy production observable with respect to the reference state and the non-equilibrium steady state. The entropy production observable of this model is an unbounded function on the phase space, and its large deviation functionals have a surprisingly rich structure. We explore this structure in some detail.
Motivated by the Rudnick-Sarnak theorem we study limiting distribution of smoothed local correlations of the form $$ \sum_{j_1, j_2, \ldots, j_n} f(N\*(θ_{j_2}-θ_{j_1}), N\*(θ_{j_3}-θ_{j_1}), \ldots, N\*(θ_{j_n}-θ_{j_1}))$$ for the Circular United Ensemble of random matrices for sufficiently smooth test functions.
