We derive the first six coefficients of the heat kernel expansion for the electromagnetic field in a cavity by relating it to the expansion for the Laplace operator acting on forms. As an application we verify that the electromagnetic Casimir energy is finite.

Electromagnetic Casimir effect on the boundary of a D-dimensional cavity and the high temperature asymptotics

We consider the finite temperature Casimir stress acting on the boundary of a D>=3 dimensional cavity due to the vacuum fluctuations of electromagnetic fields. Both perfectly conducting and infinitely permeable boundary conditions are considered, and it is proved that they correspond mathematically to the relative and absolute boundary conditions. The divergence terms of the Casimir free energy are related to the heat kernel coefficients of the Laplace operator. Bounds on the heat kernel of the Schroedinger operator in a random electromagnetic field

We obtain lower and upper bounds on the heat kernel and Green functions of the Schroedinger operator in a random Gaussian magnetic field and a fixed scalar potential. We apply stochastic Feynman-Kac representation, diamagnetic upper bounds and the Jensen inequality for the lower bound. We show that if the covariance of the electromagnetic (vector) potential is increasing at large distances then the lower bound is decreasing exponentially fast for large distances and a large time.
