We have obtained the differential decay rate and calculated the branching ratios of the exclusive semileptonic decays $B(D) \to Xlν$, where $X$ is a p-wave meson, using the nonrelativistic ISGW quark model. Our results are compared with the predictions of the ISGW2 model. We have computed some branching ratios that were not reported or were reported with 0.00 in this model. For example, we find that $Br(B_c^- \to \bar{B_{s2}^{*0}}l^-\barν) = 4.03 \times 10^{-5}$, $Br(B_c^- \to \bar{B_2^{*0}}l^- \barν) =3.65 \times 10^{-6}$ and $Br(D_s^+ \to f_2l^+ν) = 2.7 \times 10^{-5}$, which seems to be at the reach of forthcoming experiments. Furthermore, we have classified the $B_{u,d,s} \to Tlν$ decays in two groups and compared the semileptonic and nonleptonic decays including a tensor meson in the final state.
The transition form factors of the semileptonic $B \rightarrow D_2^*(2460)\ell\barν\,\,\,\,(\ell=τ,μ,e)$ decay channel are calculated within the framework of the three-point QCD sum rules. The fit functions of the form factors are then used to estimate the total decay width and branching ratio of this transition. The order of branching ratio shows that this channel can be detected at LHCb.
Exclusive semileptonic B meson decays to orbitally excited D mesons are investigated in the infinitely heavy quark limit in the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. The B\to D^{**}eνIsgur-Wise functions τ_{3/2}(w) and τ_{1/2}(w) are determined. It is found that the relativistic transformation of the meson wave functions (Wigner rotation of the light quark spin) contribute already at the leading order of the heavy quark expansion.
In this paper we compute, within in the context of a relativistic quark model, the Isgur-Wise functions for exclusive semileptonic $\bar B \to X_c$ decays, where $X_c$ is any charmed mesons with total spin $J=0,1,2$ or one of their first excited states. The relevant matrix elements are computed by a direct numerical integration, in coordinate space, of the convolution of the wave function of the $B$ meson at rest and the wave function of the $X_c$ meson, boosted according with its recoil factor. Our results are compared with other predictions found in the existing literature.
The BaBar Collaboration has recently reported products of branching fractions that include $B$ meson semileptonic decays into final states with charged and neutral $D_{1}(2420)$ and $D_{2}^{\ast}(2460)$, two narrow orbitally excited charmed mesons. We evaluate these branching fractions, together with those concerning $D_{0}^{\ast}(2400)$ and $D_{1}'(2430)$ mesons, within the framework of a constituent quark model. The calculation is performed in two steps, one of which involves a semileptonic decay and the other is mediated by a strong process. Our results are in agreement with the experimenta…
The form factors of weak decays of the B meson to orbitally excited scalar, axial vector and tensor light mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. Relativistic effects are systematically taken into account. The form factors are expressed trough the overlap integrals of the meson wave functions and their dependence on the momentum transfer is selfconsistently determined in the whole kinematical range. On this basis semileptonic and two-body nonleptonic B decay rates to orbitally excited light mesons are calculated…

The form factors of weak decays of the B_c meson to orbitally excited charmonium, D, B_s and B mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. Relativistic effects are systematically taken into account. The form factor dependence on the momentum transfer is reliably determined in the whole kinematical range. The form factors are expressed trough the overlap integrals of the meson wave functions which are known from the previous mass spectra calculations within the same model. On this basis semileptonic and nonleptonic B…

Once chosen the dynamics in one frame, the rest frame in this paper, the Bakamjian and Thomas method allows to define relativistic quark models in any frame. These models have been shown to provide, in the infinite quark mass limit, fully covariant current form factors as matrix elements of the quark current operator. In this paper we use the rest frame dynamics fitted from the meson spectrum by various authors, already shown to provide a reasonable value for $ρ^2$. From the general formulae for the scaling invariant form factors $ξ^{(n)}(w)$, $τ_{1/2}^{(n)}(w)$ and $τ_{3/2}^{(n)}(w)$, we pred…
Exclusive semileptonic decays of B mesons to orbitally excited D mesons are considered beyond the infinitely heavy quark limit in the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. This model agrees with the structure of heavy quark mass corrections predicted by the heavy quark effective theory and allows the determination of corresponding leading and subleading Isgur-Wise functions. It is found that both relativistic and 1/m_Q contributions significantly influence the decay rates. Thus, relativistic transformations of the meson wave functions (Wigner rotation …
In the framework of the heavy quark effective theory, the leading order Isgur-Wise functions relevant to semileptonic decays of the orbitally $P$-wave excited $B_{s}$ meson states $B^{**}_{s}$, including the newly found narrow $B_{s1}(5830)$ and $B^{*}_{s2}(5840)$ states, into the ($D_{s1}(2536)$, $D^{*}_{s2}(2573)$) doublet are calculated from QCD sum rules. With these universal form factors, the decay rates and branching ratios are also estimated.
Exclusive semileptonic B decays to orbitally and radially excited charmed mesons are investigated in the first order of the heavy quark expansion. The emerging leading and subleading Isgur-Wise functions are calculated in the framework of the relativistic quark model. It is found that both relativistic and the 1/m_Q corrections play an important role and substantially modify results. An interesting interplay between different corrections is observed.
Relativistic properties of qqbar potentail, mass spectra of orbitally and radially excited B and D mesons as well as semileptonic decays of B mesons to orbitally excited D mesons are discussed in the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach.
We present an analysis of semileptonic decays of orbitally, $P$-wave excited $B_{s}$ meson states $B^{**}_{s}$, including the newly found narrow $B_{s1}(5830)$ and $B^{*}_{s2}(5840)$ states, into low lying $D_{s}$ mesons ($D_{s}(1968)$, $D^{*}_{s}(2112)$, $D_{sJ}(2317)$, $D_{sJ}(2460)$) within the framework of heavy quark effective theory. The relevant universal form factors are estimated using QCD sum rules at the leading-order of the heavy quark expansion. The decay widths are predicted and the branching ratios are estimated.
We re-investigate the effects of the $1/m_c$ corrections on the spectrum of the lowest orbitally excited $D$-meson states. We argue that one should expect the $1/m_c$ corrections to induce a significant mixing between the two lowest lying $1^+$ states. We discuss the implications of this mixing and compute its effect on the semileptonic decays $B \to D^{**} \ell \barν$ and the strong $D^{**}$ decays.
We compute important ratios between decay widths of some exclusive two-body nonleptonic and semileptonic B decays, which could be test of factorization hy- pothesis. We also present a summary of the expressions of the decay widths and differential decay rates of these decays, at tree level, including l = 0 (ground state), l = 1 (orbitally excited) and n = 2 (radially excited) mesons in the fi- nal state. From a general point of view, we consider eight transitions, namely H \rightarrow P, V, S, A, A, T, P (2S), V (2S). Our analysis is carried out assuming factorization hypothesis and using the …
We consider the isospin breaking corrections to charmless semileptonic decays of B mesons. Both, the recently measured branching ratios of exclusive decays by the CLEO Collaboration and the end-point reion of the inclusive lepton spectrum in form factor models, can be affected by these corrections. Isospin corrections can affect the determination of |V_ub| from exclusive semileptonic B decays at a level comparable to present statistical uncertainties.
We present a brief discussion about expressions of decay widths of exclusive nonleptonic and semileptonic B decays at tree level including $l=0$ and $l=1$ mesons in final state. Our analysis is carried out assuming factorization hypothesis and using parametrizations of hadronic matrix elements given in WSB and ISGW quark models. Special interest is focused on dynamics of these processes and several important ratios between decay widths to determine form factors and decay constants are given.

Relativistic effects are important in the rigorous study of heavy quarks. In this paper, we study the relativistic corrections of semileptonic $B_c$ decays to charmonium with the instantaneous Bethe-Salpeter method. Within the Bethe-Salpeter framework, we use two methods to study the relativistic effects. One of them is to expand the transition amplitude in powers of $\vec{q}$ which is the relative momentum between the quark and antiquark, and the other is to expand the amplitude base on the wave functions. In the level of decay width, the results show that, for the transition of $B_c\to η_c$,…
It has been recently argued that some longstanding problems in semileptonic B decays can be solved provided the branching ratio for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays are large enough. We have studied these decays in a constituent quark model which has been successful in describing semileptonic and non-leptonic B decays into orbitally excited charmed mesons. Our results do not confirm the hypothesis of large branching ratios for the $B\to D^{\prime(\ast)}$ semileptonic decays. In addition, we calculate the non-leptonic $B\to D'π$ decays which can provide an independent test of the…
In the framework of heavy quark effective theory, the leading order Isgur-Wise form factors relevant to semileptonic decays of the ground state $\bar{b}s$ meson $B_{s}$ into orbitally excited $D$-wave $\bar{c}s$ mesons, including the newly observed narrow $D^{*}_{s1}(2860)$ and $D^{*}_{s3}(2860)$ states by the LHCb Collaboration, are calculated with the QCD sum rule method. With these universal form factors, the decay rates and branching ratios are estimated. We find that the decay widths are $Γ(B_s\rightarrow D^{*}_{s1}\ell\barν) =1.25^{+0.80}_{-0.60}\times10^{-19} \mbox{GeV}$, $Γ(B_s\rightar…
We compare the resonant and non-resonant contributions in various regions of phase space for the $D\rightarrow \bar{K}\p$ semileptonic transition amplitude, computed in a chiral model which incorporates the heavy quark symmetry. Exclusive semileptonic B decays to radially excited charmed mesons and rare radiative B decay to the orbitally excited tensor K_2^*(1430) meson are investigated in the framework of the relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach in quantum field theory. The heavy quark expansion is applied for the semileptonic B\to D^{(*)}'eνdecays. Both relativistic and the 1/m_Q corrections are found to play an important role for these decays and substantially modify results. For rare radiative B -> K_2^*(1430)γdecay such an expansion is not used for the s quark. Instead we apply the expans…
We consider the form factors for the radiative semileptonic decays $\bar{B}(v) \rightarrow D^{(*)}(v') \ell {\bar ν}_\ell γ$ in the kinematic region where the photon momentum, $k$, is small enough that heavy quark symmetry (HQS) can be applied without the radiated photon changing the heavy quark velocity (i.e., $v^{(\prime)} \cdot k < m_{(b,c)}$). We find that HQS is remarkably powerful, leaving only four new undetermined form factors at leading order in $1/m_{(b,c)}$. In addition, one of them is fixed in terms of the leading order Isgur-Wise function in the kinematic region, $v^{(\prime)}\cdo…
We present an investigation of the inclusive semileptonic decay widths of the heavy baryons Lambda_Q and Xi_Q, (Q=b,c) performed within a relativistic constituent quark model, formulated on the light-front. In a way conceptually similar to the deep-inelastic scattering case, the H_Q baryon inclusive width is expressed as the integral of the free Q-quark partial width multiplied by a bound-state factor related to the Q-quark distribution function in the H_Q. The non-perturbative meson structure is described through the quark-model wave functions, constructed via the Hamiltonian light-front form…
A relativistic quark model is applied to the description of semileptonic and non-leptonic charmed decays of the B-meson. The exclusive semileptonic modes B -> D l νand B -> D* l νare described through the universal Isgur-Wise form factor, which is calculated in terms of a constituent quark model wave function for the B-meson. Different approximations for the latter, either based on a phenomenological ansatz or derived from analyses of the meson spectra, are adopted. In particular, two wave functions, constructed via the Hamiltonian light-front formalism using a relativized and a non-relativist…
We review the detection of the Delta L=2 semileptonic meson decays of the form M(+) -> M'(-) lepton(+) lepton(-) that we studied in a previous work, mediated by a Majorana neutrino with a mass in the range between the masses of the initial and final mesons. For such range of masses, the Majorana neutrino will go on its mass shell and the two charged leptons will appear at displaced vertices or, if the lifetime is long enough, most secondary vertices will fall outside the detector. We study the consequences of this effect on the experimental searches and limits that can be extracted.
Exclusive and inclusive, semileptonic and non-leptonic, charmed decays of the B-meson are investigated in the context of a phenomenological quark model. Bound-state effects are taken care of by adopting a single (model-dependent) non-perturbative wave function, describing the motion of the light spectator quark in the B-meson. A nice reproduction of both exclusive and inclusive semileptonic data is obtained. Our predictions for the electron spectrum are presented and compared with those of the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise quark model. Finally, our approach is applied to the calculation of inclus…
We review how quark models are able to describe the phenomenology of the charm meson sector. The spectroscopy and decays of charmonium and open charm mesons are described in a particular quark model and compared with the data and the results of other existing models in the literature. A quite reasonable global description of the heavy meson spectra is reached. A new assignment of the $ψ(4415)$ resonance as a 3D state leaving aside the 4S state to the X(4360) is tested through the analysis of the resonance structure in $e^{+}e^{-}$ exclusive reactions around the $ψ(4415)$ energy region. We make…
The form factors of the weak $B_s$ transitions to the ground state and orbitally excited strange mesons are calculated in the framework of the QCD-motivated relativistic quark model based on the quasipotential approach. These form factors are expressed through the overlap integrals of meson wave functions found in their mass spectrum evaluations. The momentum dependence of the form factors is determined in the whole accessible kinematical range without any additional assumptions and extrapolations. Relativistic effects, including the wave function transformation from the rest to a moving refer…
We present a new method aiming at a non-perturbative, model-independent determination of the momentum dependence of the form factors entering semileptonic decays using unitarity and analyticity constraints. We extend the original proposal and, using suitable two-point functions computed non-perturbatively, we determine the form factors at low-momentum transfer $q^2$ from those computed explicitly on the lattice at large $q^2$, without making any assumption about their $q^2$ dependence. As a training ground we apply the new method to the analysis of the lattice data of the semileptonic $D \righ…
At the back of succeeding measurements of anomalies in semileptonic decays at LHCb and several collider experiments hinting at the possible violation of lepton flavor universality, we undertake a concise review of theoretical foundations of the tree- and loop-level $b$-hadron decays, $b \to c l ν_l$ and $b \to s l^+ l^-$ along with experimental environments. We revisit the world averages for $R_{D(D^*)}$, $R_{K(K^*)}$, $R_{J/ψ}$, and $R_{η_c}$, for the semileptonic transitions and provide results within the framework of the relativistic independent quark model in addition to the results from m…
We underline a problem existing in the heavy quark limit of QCD concerning the rates of semileptonic B decays into P-wave $D_J(j)$ mesons, where $j = {1 \over 2}$ (wide states) or $j = {3 \over 2}$ (narrow states). The leading order sum rules of Bjorken and Uraltsev suggest $Γ[ \bar{B} \to D_{0,1} ({1 \over 2}) \ell ν] \ll Γ[ \bar{B} \to D_{1,2} ({3 \over 2}) \ell ν]$, in contradiction with experiment. The same trend follows also from a sum rule for the subleading $1/m_Q$ curent matrix element correction $ξ_3(1)$. The problem is made explicit in relativistic quarks models à la Bakamjian and Th…
We study the semileptonic decays B -> Xs e+ e-, B -> Xs mu+ mu- in generic supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model. SUSY effects are parameterized using the mass insertion approximation formalism and differences with MSSM results are pointed out. Constraints on SUSY contributions coming from other processes (e.g. b -> s gamma) are taken into account. Chargino and gluino contributions to photon and Z-mediated decays are computed and non-perturbative corrections are considered. We find that the integrated branching ratios and the asymmetries can be strongly modified. Moreover, the behavi…
Semileptonic $b \to c$ transitions, and in particular the ratios $R(D^{(*)}) = \frac{Γ(B \rightarrow D^{(*)} τν)}{Γ(B \rightarrow D^{(*)} \ell ν)}$, can be used to test the universality of the weak interactions. In light of the recent discrepancies between the experimental measurements of these observables by BaBar, Belle and LHCb and the Standard Model predicted values, we study the robustness of the latter. Our analysis reveals that $R(D)$ might be enhanced by lepton mass effects associated to the mostly unknown scalar form factor. In constrast, the Standard Model prediction for $R(D^*)$ is …

Long-distance effects in exclusive rare semileptonic transitions B -> (K, K*) are analysed within a relativistic quark model. The meson transition form factors, describing the meson amplitudes of the effective weak Hamiltonian, are calculated within the dispersion formulation of the quark model as relativistic double spectral representations through the wave functions of the initial and final mesons. The dilepton spectra and lepton asymmetries are considered within the framework provided by the Standard Model. It is found that, while the non-resonant decay rates are very sensitive to quark mod…
We elaborate on the dichotomy between the description of the semileptonic decays of heavy hadrons on the one hand and the semileptonic decays of light hadrons such as neutron $β$ decays on the other hand. For example, almost without exception the semileptonic decays of heavy baryons are described in cascade fashion as a sequence of two two-body decays $B_1 \to B_2 + W_{\rm off-shell}$ and $W_{\rm off-shell} \to \ell + ν_\ell$ whereas neutron $β$ decays are analyzed as true three-body decays $n \to p + e^- +\bar ν_e$. Within the cascade approach it is possible to define a set of seven angular o…
Recently the semileptonic decays $B\to X_s e^+ e^-$, $B\to X_s μ^+ μ^-$ in generic supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model have been studied in ref.~\cite{noi}. In this talk I review the main points of this analysis. SUSY effects are parameterized using the mass insertion approximation formalism and differences with MSSM results are pointed out. Constraints on SUSY contributions coming from other processes ({\it e.g.} $b\to s \g$) are taken into account. Chargino and gluino contributions to photon and Z-mediated decays are computed and non-perturbative corrections are considered. We fi…
Phenomenological applications of an effective theory of low-lying excited states of charm and bottom isoscalar baryons are discussed at leading and next-to-leading order in the combined heavy quark and large $N_c$ expansion. The combined expansion is formulated in terms of the counting parameter $λ\sim 1/m_Q, 1/N_c$; the combined expansion is in powers of $λ^{1/2}$. We work up to next-to-leading order. We obtain model-independent predictions for the excitation energies, the semileptonic form factors and electromagnetic decay rates. The spin-averaged mass of the doublet of the first orbitally e…
To help the difficult determination of the angle $γ$ of the unitarity triangle, Aleksan, Dunietz and Kayser have proposed the modes of the type $K^-D^+_s$, common to $B_s$ and $\bar{B}_s$. We point out that it is possible to gain in statistics by a sum over all modes with ground state mesons in the final state, i.e. $K^-D^+_s$, $K^{*-}D_+^s$, $K^-D^{*+}_s$, $K^{*-}D^{*+}_s$. The delicate point is the relative phase of these different contributions to the dilution factor $D$ of the time-dependent asymmetry. Each contribution to $D$ is proportional to a product $F^{cb}$ $F^{ub}$ $f_{D_s}$ $f_K$ …
