We study conditions for a concurrent construction of proof-nets in the framework developed by Andreoli in recent papers. We define specific correctness criteria for that purpose. We first study closed modules (i.e. validity of the execution of a logic program), then extend the criterion to open modules (i.e. validity during the execution) distinguishing criteria for acyclicity and connectability in order to allow incremental verification.
The paper introduces a knowledge representation language that combines the event calculus with description logic in a logic programming framework. The purpose is to provide the user with an expressive language for modelling and analysing systems that evolve over time. The approach is exemplified with the logic programming language as implemented in the Fusemate system. The paper extends Fusemate's rule language with a weakly DL-safe interface to the description logic $\cal ALCIF$ and adapts the event calculus to this extended language. This way, time-stamped ABoxes can be manipulated as fluent…
Logic programming with tabling and constraints (TCLP, tabled constraint logic programming) has been shown to be more expressive and, in some cases, more efficient than LP, CLP, or LP with tabling. In this paper we provide insights regarding the semantics, correctness, completeness, and termination of top-down execution strategies for full TCLP, i.e., TCLP featuring entailment checking in the calls and in the answers. We present a top-down semantics for TCLP and show that it is equivalent to a fixpoint semantics. We study how the constraints that a program generates can effectively impact termi…
Fusemate is a logic programming system that implements the possible model semantics for disjunctive logic programs. Its input language is centered around a weak notion of stratification with comprehension and aggregation operators on top of it. Fusemate is implemented as a shallow embedding in the Scala programming language. This enables using Scala data types natively as terms, a tight interface with external systems, and it makes model computation available as an ordinary container data structure constructor. The paper describes the above features and demonstrates them with a non-trivial use…

This note points out a lemma on closures of monotonic increasing functions and shows how it is applicable to decomposition and modularity for semantics defined as the least fixedpoint of some monotonic function. In particular it applies to numerous semantics of logic programs. An appendix addresses the fixedpoints of (possibly non-monotonic) functions that are sandwiched between functions with the same fixedpoints.
Spatial data is ubiquitous in our data-driven society. The Logic Programming community has been investigating the use of spatial data in different settings. Despite the success of this research, the Geographic Information System (GIS) community has rarely made use of these new approaches. This has mainly two reasons. First, there is a lack of tools that tightly integrate logical reasoning into state-of-the-art GIS software. Second, the scalability of solutions has often not been tested and hence, some solutions might work on toy examples but do not scale well to real-world settings. The two ma…
A Generalization of the Lifting Lemma for Logic Programming

Several formal systems, such as resolution and minimal model semantics, provide a framework for logic programming. In this paper, we will survey the use of structural proof theory as an alternative foundation. Researchers have been using this foundation for the past 35 years to elevate logic programming from its roots in first-order classical logic into higher-order versions of intuitionistic and linear logic. These more expressive logic programming languages allow for capturing stateful computations and rich forms of abstractions, including higher-order programming, modularity, and abstract d…

(To《逻辑程序设计理论与实践》(Theory and Practice of Logic Programming,TPLP)

In this work, we show that both logic programming and abstract argumentation frameworks can be interpreted in terms of Nelson's constructive logic N4. We do so by formalizing, in this logic, two principles that we call non-contradictory inference and strengthened closed world assumption: the first states that no belief can be held based on contradictory evidence while the latter forces both unknown and contradictory evidence to be regarded as false. Using these principles, both logic programming and abstract argumentation frameworks are translated into constructive logic in a modular way and u…
