英文摘要：

Peer-to-peer (P2P) technologies have been widely used for content sharing, popularly called "file-swapping" networks. This chapter gives a broad overview of content sharing P2P technologies. It starts with the fundamental concept of P2P computing followed by the analysis of network topologies used in peer-to-peer systems. Next, three milestone peer-to-peer technologies: Napster, Gnutella, and Fasttrack are explored in details, and they are finally concluded with the comparison table in the last section.

Efficient Peer-to-Peer Content Sharing for Learning in Virtual Worlds

Virtual world technologies provide new and immersive space for learning, training, and education. They are enabled by the content creation and content sharing function for allowing users to create and interoperate various learning objects. Unfortunately, virtual world content sharing based on persistent virtual world content storage, to the best of our knowledge, does not exist. In this paper, we address this problem by proposing a content sharing scheme based on Virtual Net, a virtual world persistency framework. For efficient content retrieval, three strategies have been proposed to reduce c…

Reliable, Fair and Decentralized Marketplace for Content Sharing Using Blockchain

Content sharing platforms such as Youtube and Vimeo have promoted pay per view models for artists to monetize their content. Yet, artists remain at the mercy of centralized platforms that control content listing and advertisement, with little transparency and fairness in terms of number of views or revenue. On the other hand, consumers are distanced from the publishers and cannot authenticate originality of the content. In this paper, we develop a reliable and fair platform for content sharing without a central facilitator. The platform is built as a decentralized data storage layer to store a…

Overlay Structure for Large Scale Content Sharing: Leveraging Geography as the Basis for Routing Locality

In this paper we place our arguments on two related issues in the design of generalized structured peer-to-peer overlays. First, we argue that for the large-scale content-sharing applications, lookup and content transport functions need to be treated separately. Second, to create a location-based routing overlay suitable for content sharing and other applications, we argue that off-the-shelf geographic coordinates of Internet-connected hosts can be used as a basis. We then outline the design principles and present a design for the generalized routing overlay based on adaptive hierarchical part…

Content Sharing for Mobile Devices

The miniaturisation of computing devices has seen computing devices become increasingly pervasive in society. With this increased pervasiveness, the technologies of small computing devices have also improved. Mobile devices are now capable of capturing various forms of multimedia and able to communicate wirelessly using increasing numbers of communication techniques. The owners and creators of local content are motivated to share this content in ever increasing volume; the conclusion has been that social networks sites are seeing a revolution in the sharing of information between communities o…

Economy-based Content Replication for Peering Content Delivery Networks

Existing Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) exhibit the nature of closed delivery networks which do not cooperate with other CDNs and in practice, islands of CDNs are formed. The logical separation between contents and services in this context results in two content networking domains. In addition to that, meeting the Quality of Service requirements of users according to negotiated Service Level Agreement is crucial for a CDN. Present trends in content networks and content networking capabilities give rise to the interest in interconnecting content networks. Hence, in this paper, we present an o…

Infnote: A Decentralized Information Sharing Platform Based on Blockchain

Internet censorship has been implemented in several countries to prevent citizens from accessing information and to suppress discussion of specific topics. This paper presents Infnote, a platform that helps eliminate the problem of sharing content in these censorship regimes. Infnote is a decentralized information sharing system based on blockchain and peer-to-peer network, aiming to provide an easy-to-use medium for users to share their thoughts, insights and views freely without worrying about data tampering and data loss. Infnote provides a solution that is able to work on any level of Inte…
