The internal structure of hadrons is characterized by form factors which correspond to matrix elements of currents. Among those, the stress-energy-momentum tensor is a universally conserved quantity providing the gravitational form factors, from which mechanical properties may be derived via the response to the space-time fluctuations. They have received much attention because of their role as moments of the Generalized Parton Distributions, where the stress-energy-momentum tensor couples to two photons, and more recently, due to the explicit lattice QCD determination for the pion and nucleon. In these lectures we attempt a pedagogical review of the topic from a purely hadronic point of view, based on the notion of dispersion relations, meson dominance, and parton-hadron duality. We show that despite the overwhelming simplicity of the approach, a rather successful description of the lattice QCD data is achieved.
An explicit model realizing parton-hadron duality and fitting the data is suggested. Complex nonlinear Regge trajectories are important ingredients of the model. The inclusion of $Δ$ and $N^*$ trajectories should account for all resonances in the direct channel. The exotic trajectory is responsible for the smooth background.
We summarize the current view on Parton-Hadron duality as it applies to B meson decays. It is emphasized that an OPE treatment is essential for properly formulating duality and its limitations. Duality violations are unlikely to become the limiting factor in describing semileptonic B width vis-a-vie higher order corrections. The consistent extraction of the b quark mass from B production and decays provides a striking example of the theoretical control achieved.
The validity of local parton-hadron duality within the framework of HERWIG and JETSET event generators is investigated. We concentrate on ${\rm e}^{+}{\rm e}^{-}$ annihilations in LEP 2 energy range as these interactions provide theoretically the cleanest condition for the discussion of this concept.
We present a model that realizes both resonance-Regge (Veneziano) and parton-hadron (Bloom-Gilman) duality. We first review the features of the Veneziano model and we discuss how parton-hadron duality appears in the Bloom-Gilman model. Then we review limitations of the Veneziano model, namely that the zero-width resonances in the Veneziano model violate unitarity and Mandelstam analyticity. We discuss how such problems are alleviated in models that construct dual amplitudes with Mandelstam analyticity (so-called DAMA models). We then introduce a modified DAMA model, and we discuss its properti…
We explore the physics of the parton-hadron duality in the nucleon structure functions appearing in lepton-nucleon scattering. We stress that the duality allows one to extract the higher-twist matrix elements from data in the resonance region, and learn about the properties of resonances if these matrix elements are known. As an example, we construct the moments of $F_2(x, Q^2)$ for the low and medium $Q^2$ region, and from which we study the interplay between higher twists and the resonance contributions.
By using the concept of duality between direct channel resonances and Regge exchanges we relate the small- and large-$x$ behavior of the structure functions. We show that even a single resonance exhibits Bjorken scaling at large $Q^2$.
Assuming so called global duality we argue that it is very likely that local duality needed to obtain results for the hadronic width of heavy meson decays within the $1/m_Q$ expansion holds. Hence, if the discrepancy between experiment and the theory concerning charm counting, the semileptonic branching fraction and the lifetimes of $b$ hadrons persist, it may be taken as a hint at some qualitatively new effect in (nonperturbative) QCD or even as a new physics.
Recent studies of the Q^2 dependence of ep scattering in the large x region and in the Q^2 range: 1 < Q^2 <leq 30 Gev^2, confirm the validity of the phenomenon of quark-hadron duality - the similarity of the deep inelastic (parton) and resonance (hadron) spectra - for values of the invariant mass, W^2 > 2.4 GeV^2 At lower values of W^2, duality is found to be significantly violated by an amount that cannot be parametrized in terms of the first few terms of a series of power corrections. We present a dynamical model that explains the Q^2 dependence of the data: at low W^2, non-partonic componen…
QCD-based scaling arguments predict the predominance of longitudinal over transverse electroproduction of pions by terms $\propto Q^2$. However, data from JLAB, Cornell and DESY, covering a wide kinematical range $1 < Q^2 < 11\, {\rm GeV}^2$ and $2\, {\rm GeV} < W < 4\, {\rm GeV}$, do not show this expected behavior. At the same time standard descriptions of pion-electroproduction on nucleons have given a very good description of the longitudinal components of the cross sections. However, these very same models have failed grossly in describing the transverse component. We discuss here a commo…
Motivated by recent work on three-point QCD sum rules in heavy quark physics, we use the simple quantum mechanical models to study the basic issue of duality in three-point sum rules. We show that while in all of these models the duality in two-point sum rules works fine, the duality in three-point sum rules may be 100%- violated, leading to completely unreliable predictions for the matrix elements in question. The implications for three-point QCD sum rules are discussed. A new estimate for the parameter $λ_1$ of HQET is given.
We study the phenomenon of parton-hadron duality in both polarised and unpolarised electron proton scattering using the HERMES and the Jefferson Lab data, respectively. In both cases we extend a systematic perturbative QCD based analysis to the integrals of the structure functions in the resonance region. After subtracting target mass corrections and large x resummation effects, we extract the remaining power corrections up to order 1/Q^2. We find a sizeable suppression of these terms with respect to analyses using deep inelastic scattering data. The suppression appears consistently in both po…
A large variety of jet properties can be described perturbatively by evolving the parton cascade down to small scales of order of a few 100 MeV. We discuss two recent applications of this approach: 1. the soft limit of the particle spectrum which is nearly energy independent as expected for the soft gluon bremsstrahlung; further tests of this interpretation in $e^+e^-$ and DIS are presented; 2. the steep decrease of the distribution of rapidity gaps in $e^+e^-$ annihilation can be explained by the Sudakov formfactor for quark jets.
We calculate the probability for rapidity gaps in the parton cascade for different approximations within the perturbative QCD and compare the results with recent measurements. The aim is to find out whether the dual connection between the parton and hadron final states -- observed so far in various inclusive measurements -- holds as well for the extreme kinematic configurations with colour sources separated by large rapidity gaps. A description of the data is possible indeed choosing the parameters of the cascade in the range suggested by recent analyses of the energy spectra (the $k_\perp$ cu…
Regge-pole based descriptions of pion-electroproduction on nucleons have given a very good description of the longitudinal components of the cross sections. However, these very same models grossly underestimate the transverse components. A related problem appears in QCD-based scaling arguments that predict the predominance of longitudinal over transverse electroproduction of pions by terms $\propto Q^2$. However, data from JLAB, Cornell and DESY, covering a wide kinematical range $1 < Q^2 < 11\, {\rm GeV}^2$ and $2\, {\rm GeV} < W < 4\, {\rm GeV}$, do not show this expected behavior. We addres…
We discuss observables in multiparticle production for three kinds of limits of decreasing kinematical scales: 1. the transition jet \to hadron (limit y_{cut}\to 0 of the resolution parameter y_{cut}); 2. single particle inclusive distributions normalized at threshold \sqrt s\to 0 and 3. particle densities in the limit of low momentum p,p_T\to 0. The observables show a smooth behaviour in these limits and follow the perturbative QCD predictions, originally designed for large scales, whereby a simple prescription is supplemented to take into account mass effects. A corresponding physical pictur…
Basing upon dual analytic models, we present arguments in favor of the parametrization of generalized parton distributions (GPD) in the form (x/g_0)^{(1-x)\tildeα(t)}, where \tildeα(t)=α(t)-α(0) is the nonlinear part of the Regge trajectory and g_0 is a parameter, g_0>1. For linear trajectories it reduces to earlier proposals. We compare the calculated moments of these GPD with the experimental data on form factors and find that the effects from the nonlinearity of Regge trajectories are large. By Fourier-transforming the obtained GPD, we access the spatial distribution of protons in the trans…
Applying arguments based on the operator product expansion for a three-point correlator and relying on quark-hadron duality, we derive an expression for the skewed (non-forward) parton distribution in the pion in the case of a zero-skewedness parameter, {\cal F}^{ψ|π}_{ζ=0}(X;t). We expect that our result is relevant for moderately large momentum transfers 1 < t < 10 GeV^2. In addition, we construct a purely phenomenological factorized model for the same quantity in close analogy to Radyushkin's model, originally proposed for skewed distributions of quarks in the nucleon. Though the quark-hadr…
We propose an extraction of the running coupling constant of QCD in the infrared region from experimental data on deep inelastic inclusive scattering at Bjorken x -> 1. We first attempt a perturbative fit of the data that extends NLO PQCD evolution to large x values and final state invariant mass, W, in the resonance region. We include both target mass corrections and large x resummation effects. These effects are of order O(1/Q^2), and they improve the agreement with the Q^2 dependence of the data. Standard analyses require the presence of additional power corrections, or dynamical higher twi…
Analyzing the single inclusive annihilation spectrum of charged hadrons in $e^+e^-$ collisions, I confront the hadronization hypothesis of local parton-hadron duality with a systematic resummation of the dependence on the small energy fraction. This resummation is based on the reciprocity between time-like and space-like splitting processes in $4-2ε$-dimensions, which I extend to resum all the soft terms of the cross-section for inclusive jet production. Under the local-parton-hadron duality hypothesis, the resulting distribution of jets essentially determines the spectrum of hadrons as the je…
We investigate the quantum entanglement in rapidity space of the soft gluon wave function of a quarkonium, in theories with non-trivial rapidity evolutions. We found that the rapidity evolution drastically changes the behavior of the entanglement entropy, at any given order in perturbation theory. At large $N_c$, the reduced density matrices that "resum" the leading rapidity-logs can be explicitly constructed, and shown to satisfy Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK)-like evolution equations. We study their entanglement entropy in a simplified $1+1$ toy model, and in 3D QCD. The entanglement entropy in the…
We study the global Q^2 dependence of large x, F_2 nucleon structure function data, with the aim of providing a perturbative-QCD based, quantitative analysis of parton-hadron duality. As opposed to previous analyses at fixed x, we use a framework in fixed W^2. We uncover a breakdown of the twist-4 approximation with a renormalon type improvement at O(1/Q^4) which, by affecting the initial evolution of parton distributions, will have consequences for pQCD analyses also at large x and very large Q^2.
We propose a phenomenological light-front wave function for hadrons with arbitrary twist-dimension (mesons, baryons and multiquark states), which gives the correct scaling behavior of structure functions (parton distributions) and form factors for pions and nucleons. For other hadronic states the proposed wave function produces form factors consistent with quark counting rules, and gives predictions for structure functions (parton distributions). As an application we build a light-front quark model for nucleons based on the proposed wave function.
In present work we discuss the production of heavy quarkonia and diquarks in $pp$-interactions. The aim is to take into account the production of bound states of quarks originating from independent parton scatterings. This production is regulated by constraints on the invariant mass of constituents. Such an approach leads to larger value of the diquark production cross section than traditional consideration in single parton scattering. This production mechanism of doubly heavy baryons can sooner be verified by modern experiments (e.g. LHCb). We also discuss related contributions to double and …
We discuss quantum entanglement between fast and slow degrees of freedom, in a two dimensional (2D) large $N_c$ gauge theory with Dirac quarks, quantized on the light front. Using the 't Hooft wave functions, we construct the reduced density matrix for an interval in the momentum fraction $x$-space, and calculate its von Neumann entropy in terms of structure functions, that are measured by DIS on mesons (hadrons in general). We found that the entropy is bounded by an area law with logarithmic divergences, proportional to the rapidity of the meson. The evolution of the entanglement entropy with…
We use local quark-hadron duality to calculate the nucleon structure function as seen by neutrino and muon beams. Our result indicates a possible signal of charge symmetry violation at the parton level in the very large x region.
We comment on the papers "Nucleon elastic form factors and local duality" [Phys. Rev. {\bf D62}, 073008 (2000)] and "Experimental verification of quark-hadron duality" [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 85}, 1186 (2000)]. Our main comment is that the reconstruction of the proton magnetic form factor, claimed to be obtained from the inelastic scaling curve thanks to parton-hadron local duality, is affected by an artifact.
Quark-hadron duality is an interesting and potentially very useful phenomenon, as it relates the properly averaged hadronic data to a perturbative QCD result in some kinematic regions. While duality is well established experimentally, our current theoretical understanding is still incomplete. We employ a simple model to qualitatively reproduce all the features of Bloom-Gilman duality as seen in electron scattering. In particular, we address the role of relativity, give an explicit analytic proof of the equality of the hadronic and partonic scaling curves, and show how the transition from coher…
We compute the nonleptonic weak decay width of a heavy-light meson in 1+1 spacetime dimensions with a large number of QCD colors (the 't Hooft model) as a function of the heavy quark mass. In this limit, QCD is exactly soluble, and decay modes are dominated by two-particle final states. We compare the results to the tree-level partonic decay width of the heavy quark in order to test quark-hadron duality in this universe. We find that this duality is surprisingly well satisfied in the heavy quark limit, in that the difference between the sum of exclusive partial widths and the tree-level parton…
We employ a novel new approach to study local quark-hadron duality using "truncated" moments, or integrals of structure functions over restricted regions of x, to determine the degree to which individual resonance regions are dominated by leading twist. Because truncated moments obey the same Q^2 evolution equations as the leading twist parton distributions, this approach makes possible for the first time a description of resonance region data and the phenomenon of quark-hadron duality directly from QCD.
The duality between partonic and hadronic descriptions of physical phenomena is one of the most remarkable features of strong interaction physics. A classic example of this is in electron-nucleon scattering, in which low-energy cross sections, when averaged over appropriate energy intervals, are found to exhibit the scaling behavior expected from perturbative QCD. We present a comprehensive review of data on structure functions in the resonance region, from which the global and local aspects of duality are quantified, including its flavor, spin and nuclear medium dependence. To interpret the e…
We suggest a duality between the statistical and standard (dynamical) distributions of partons in the nucleons. The temperature parameter entering into the statistical form for the quark distributions is estimated. It is found that this effective temperature is practically the same for the dependence on logitudinal and transverse momenta and, it is close to the freeze-out temperature in high energy heavy-ion collisions.
We suggest a duality between the standard (dynamical) and statistical distributions of partons in the nucleons. The temperature parameter entering into the statistical form for the quark distributions is estimated. It is found that this effective temperature is practically the same for the dependence on longitudinal and transverse momenta and, in turn, it is close to the freeze-out temperature in high energy heavy-ion collisions.
The duality between the partonic and hadronic descriptions of electron--nucleon scattering is a remarkable feature of nuclear interactions. When averaged over appropriate energy intervals the cross section at low energy which is dominated by nucleon resonances resembles the smooth behavior expected from perturbative QCD. Recent Jefferson Lab results indicate that quark-hadron duality is present in a variety of observables, not just the proton F2 structure function. An overview of recent results, especially local quark-hadron duality on the neutron, are presented here.
Explicit quark-hadron duality in the limit of heavy quark mass is studied using the 't Hooft model, where both partonic and hadronic amplitudes may be computed exactly. Results for weak decays of heavy mesons are presented for both standard spectator decays, where the duality limit is convincingly approached, and annihilation decays of the valence quark-antiquark pair, where the approach to asymptotic duality is much less precise.
We apply a recently developed technique to extract for the first time the neutron F_2^n structure function from inclusive proton and deuteron data in the nucleon resonance region, and test the validity of quark-hadron duality in the neutron. We establish the accuracy of duality in the low-lying neutron resonance regions over a range of Q^2, and compare with the corresponding results on the proton and with theoretical expectations. The confirmation of duality in both the neutron and proton opens the possibility of using resonance region data to constrain parton distributions at large x.
We study exclusive scattering of `hadrons' at high energy and fixed angle in (nonconformal) noncommutative gauge theories. Via gauge-string duality, we show that the noncommutativity renders the scattering soft, leading to exponential suppression. The result fits with the picture that, in noncommutative gauge theory, fundamental partons consist of extremely soft constituents and `hadrons' are made out of open Wilson lines.
Combining data on unpolarized and polarized inclusive proton structure functions, we perform the first detailed study of quark-hadron duality in individual helicity-1/2 and 3/2 virtual photoproduction cross sections. We find that duality is realized more clearly in the helicity-1/2 channel, with duality violating corrections < 10% over the entire nucleon resonance region, while larger, < 20% corrections are found in the helicity-3/2 sector. The results are in general agreement with quark model expectations, and suggest that data above the Delta resonance region may be used to constrain both sp…
For gauge theories which admit a dual string description, we analyze deep inelastic scattering at strong 't Hooft coupling and high energy, in the vicinity of the unitarity limit. We discuss the onset of unitarity corrections and determine the saturation line which separates weak scattering from strong scattering in the parameter space of rapidity and photon virtuality. We discover that the approach towards unitarity proceeds through two different mechanisms, depending upon the photon virtuality Q^2 : single Pomeron exchange at relatively low Q^2 and, respectively, multiple graviton exchanges …
We identify conditions under which a summation over nucleon resonances can yield, via quark-hadron duality, parton model results for electromagnetic and neutrino structure functions at large x. While a summation over the lowest even and odd parity multiplets is sufficient to achieve duality in the symmetric quark model, a suppression of transitions to specific final states is required for more realistic cases incorporating SU(6) breaking. We outline several scenarios consistent with duality, discuss their implications for the high Q^2 behavior of transition form factors, and illustrate how the…
Three-particle correlations in quark and gluon jets are computed for the first time in perturbative QCD. We give results in the double logarithmic approximation and the modified leading logarithmic approximation. In both resummation schemes, we use the formalism of the generating functional and solve the evolution equations analytically from the steepest descent evaluation of the one-particle distribution. We thus provide a further test of the local parton hadron duality and make predictions for the LHC.
We discuss (i) the evaluation of the expectation values of four-quark operators assuming that the heavy quark expansion for $b$ sector converges at the third order in $1/m_Q$, and (ii) the estimation of the duality breaking short distance nonperturbative corrections to the parton decay rate. We finally point out the implications of the result obtained for the assumption of quark-hadron duality in heavy quark expansion.
It is studied the model on J/psi production allowing to extract parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the combined analysis with both data on Drell-Yan and J/psi production processes. It is shown that this, so attractive from theoretical point of view, model, can be safely used in the low energy region E<100 GeV. The significance of gluon contributions to the J/psi cross-sections is investigated. The obtained results in the high energy region occur to be rather surprising.
We discuss a new leading-order parameterization of generalized parton distributions of the proton, which is based on the idea of duality. In its minimal version, the parameterization is defined by the usual quark singlet parton distributions and the form factors of the energy-momentum tensor. We demonstrate that our parameterization describes very well the absolute value, the Q^2-dependence and the W-dependence of the HERA data on the total DVCS cross section and contains no free parameters in that kinematics. The parameterization suits especially well the low-x_{Bj} region, which allows us to…
Quarkonium production in proton-proton collision is interesting in profiling the partons inside the nucleon. Recently, the impact of double parton scatterings (DPSs) was suggested by experimental data of associated quarkonium production (J/psi+Z, J/psi+W, and J/psi+J/psi) at the LHC and Tevatron, in addition to single parton scatterings (SPSs). In this proceedings contribution, we review the extraction of the effective parameter of the DPS through the evaluation of the SPS contributions under quark-hadron duality.
Using data from the recent BONuS experiment at Jefferson Lab, which utilized a novel spectator tagging technique to extract the inclusive electron-free neutron scattering cross section, we obtain the first direct observation of quark-hadron duality in the neutron F_2 structure function. The data are used to reconstruct the lowest few (N=2, 4 and 6) moments of F_2 in the three prominent nucleon resonance regions, as well as the moments integrated over the entire resonance region. Comparison with moments computed from global parametrizations of parton distribution functions suggest that quark--h…
We develop a Monte-Carlo event generator based on combination of a parton production formula including the effects of parton saturation (called the DHJ formula) and hadronization process due to the Lund string fragmentation model. This event generator is designed for the description of hadron productions at forward rapidities and in a wide transverse momentum range in high-energy proton-proton collisions. We analyze transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons as well as identified particles; pion, kaon, (anti-)proton at RHIC energy, and ultra-forward neutral pion spectra from LHCf experimen…
A large fraction of the world data on both polarized and unpolarized inclusive $ep$ scattering at large Bjorken $x$ lies in the resonance region where a correspondence with the deep inelastic regime, known as Bloom and Gilman's duality, was observed. Recent analyses of the $Q^2$ dependence of the data show that parton-hadron duality is inconsistent with the twist expansion at low values of the final state invariant mass. We investigate the nature of this disagreement, and we interpret its occurrence in terms of contributions from non partonic degrees of freedom in a preconfinement model.
We compare the distortion effects of three popular final-state hadronization schemes. We show how hadronization modifies the initial-state gluon correlations in high energy p+A collisions. The three models considered are (1) LPH: local parton-hadron duality, (2) CPR: collinear parton- hadron resonance independent fragmentation, and (3) LUND: color string hadronization. The strong initial-state azimuthal asymmetries are generated using the GLVB model for non-abelian gluon bremsstrahlung, assuming a saturation scale Qsat = 2 GeV. Long-range elliptic and triangular harmonics for the final hadron …
The parton model relations in conjunction with quark-hadron duality in deep inelastic scattering suggests an asymptotic dominance of quark-diquark type of baryonic excited states with a radial Regge uniformly distributed mass squared spectrum $M_{n}^2 = μ^2 n + M_0^2$. We argue that this points to a lineary quark-diquark confining potential. We analyze the radial ($n$) and angular-momentum ($J$) Regge trajectories for all light-quark states with baryon number one listed in the 2016 edition of the Particle Data Tables. The parameters of the mass squared trajectories are obtained by linear regre…
We discuss the behaviour of the energy spectrum of particles in jets near the limit of small momenta of a few hundred MeV. In QCD parton cascades the soft gluons are coherently emitted from all faster partons in the jet and their production rate is predicted to scale. The observed charged and identified particle spectra follow this behaviour surprisingly well supporting of the hypothesis of the Local Parton Hadron Duality (LPHD) for this extreme limit. Further tests of this perturbative approach are discussed.
It is now widely recognized that large Bjorken $x$ data play an important role in global analyses of Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) even at collider energies, through perturbative QCD evolution. For values of the scale of the reaction, $Q^2$, in the multi-GeV region the structure functions at large $x$ present resonance structure. Notwithstanding, these data can be incorporated in the analyses by using quark-hadron duality or approximate scaling of the structure function data averaged over their resonance structure. Several averaging methods have been proposed using either the PDFs Melli…
We present analytic solution of the Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) equation at leading order (LO) in the phi^3 theory in 6 space-time dimensions. If the phi^3 model was the theory of strong interactions, the obtained solution would describe the distribution of partons in a jet. We point out that the local parton-hadron duality (LPHD) conjecture does not work in this hypothetical situation. That is, treatment of hadronisation of shower partons is essential for the description of hadron distributions in jets stemming from proton-proton (pp) collisions at \sqrt{s} = 7 TeV and …
We deduce the maximum-entropy state of partons created in proton-proton and nucleus-nucleus collisions. This state is characterized by a distribution function n(x,pT) depending on the light-cone fraction x and the transverse momentum pT of forward or backward particles, respectively. The mean transverse momentum <pT> determines the single parameter of the maximum entropy distribution which is constrained by the sum of all light-cone momentum fractions being unity. The total multiplicity is related to the transverse area of the colliding Lorentz-contracted hadrons. Assuming parton-hadron dualit…
We derive the probability for rapidity gaps in a parton cascade and investigate the dual connection with hadronic final states. A good description of observations in e+e- annihilations is obtained by perturbative QCD calculations in MLLA using previously determined parameters (QCD scale Λand k_T-cut-off Q_0) and applying the parton hadron duality picture. Further predictions are derived; especially, for gaps between jets at variable resolution we predict a strong variation of gap probabilities for small parameters y_{cut} -> 0 in the transition from jets to hadrons. Large gaps between partons …
First, I define generalized Bloom-Gilman duality and Bjorken-like scaling for inclusive photoproduction of pions, relating Quark-Parton Model description in the deep-inelastic region to the properties of exclusive resonance excitation. Secondly, connection between inclusive and exclusive processes is established in the formalism of Nonforward Parton Densities used here to predict deviations from dimensional scaling for a variety of observables: nucleon and pion elastic form factors, and pion Compton scattering.
We compare the effects of different quark diagram topologies on the weak hadronic width of heavy-light mesons in the large N_c limit. We enumerate the various topologies and show that the only one dominant (or even comparable) in powers of N_c to the noninteracting spectator "tree" diagram is the "annihilation" diagram, in which the valence quark-antiquark pair annihilate weakly. We compute the amplitude for this diagram in the 't Hooft model (QCD in 1+1 spacetime dimensions with a large number of colors N_c) at the hadronic level and compare to the Born term partonic level. We find that quark…
In view of the large discrepancy about the associated production of a prompt $J/ψ$ and a $Z$ boson between the ATLAS data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV and theoretical predictions for Single Parton Scattering (SPS) contributions, we perform an evaluation of the corresponding cross section at one loop accuracy (Next-to-Leading Order, NLO) in a quark-hadron-duality approach, also known as the Colour-Evaporation Model (CEM). This work is motivated by (i) the extremely disparate predictions based on the existing NRQCD fits conjugated with the absence of a full NLO NRQCD computation and (ii) the fact that we…
Angular correlations of partons have been derived for high energy jets in QCD. Interesting new scaling properties with two redundant variables (jet energy $P$ and jet opening angle $Θ$) emerge which can be tested within a parton-hadron duality picture. Recent results from LEP support the scaling in $Θ$; the scaling in both $P$ and $Θ$ could be tested with jets from deep inelastic scattering or with high $p_T$ jets.
We argue that the evolution of coloured partons into colour-singlet hadrons has approximate factorization into an extended parton-shower phase and a colour-singlet resonance--pole phase. The amplitude for the conversion of colour connected partons into hadrons necessarily resembles Regge-pole amplitudes since qq-bar resonance amplitudes and Regge-pole amplitudes are related by duality. A `Regge-cascade' factorization property of the N-point Veneziano amplitude provides further justification of this protocol. This latter factorization property, in turn, allows the construction of general multi-…
