Pure natural inflation is a compelling effectively single-field model of inflation stemming from a top-down approach to the acceleration mechanism. In this short letter we show that such model is compatible with the latest CMB constraints obtained from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope combined with baryon acoustic oscillation data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument. Under both the instantaneous reheating hypothesis and standard assumptions for reheating, we rule in a non-trivial fraction of the parameter space. We apply our analysis also to a phenomenological extension of the model and chart its viable parameter space.
We study a model of quintessential inflation in the context of Palatini gravity. As a representative example, we consider the Peebles-Vilenkin model of quintessential inflation with a small non-minimal coupling to gravity, which is consistent with the most recent Planck measurements. At the end of inflation, the inflaton field passes through a tachyonic region and it leads to explosive particle production through the tachyonic preheating process. After preheating, the Universe becomes dominated by the kinetic energy of the inflaton and enters a period of kination. Eventually, the total energy …
Primordial Black Holes (PBH) arise naturally from high peaks in the curvature power spectrum of near-inflection-point single-field inflation, and could constitute today the dominant component of the dark matter in the universe. In this letter we explore the possibility that a broad spectrum of PBH is formed in models of Critical Higgs Inflation (CHI), where the near-inflection point is related to the critical value of the RGE running of both the Higgs self-coupling $λ(μ)$ and its non-minimal coupling to gravity $ξ(μ)$. We show that, for a wide range of model parameters, a half-domed-shaped pea…
Recent and upcoming experimental data as well as the possibility of rich phenomenology has spiked interest in studying the quantum gravitational effects in cosmology at low (inflation-era) energy scales. While Planck scale physics is under development, it is still possible to incorporate quantum gravity effects at relatively low energies using quantum field theory in curved spacetime, which serves as a low-energy limit of planck scale physics. We use the Vilkovisky-DeWitt's covariant effective action formalism to study quantum gravitational corrections to a recently proposed Natural Inflation …
A pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (such as an axion-like particle) is a theoretically well-motivated inflaton as it features a naturally flat potential (natural inflation). This is because Goldstone's theorem protects its potential from sizable quantum corrections. Such corrections, however, generically generates an $R^2$ term in the action, which leads to another inflaton candidate because of the equivalence between the $R^2$ term and a scalar field, the scalaron, with a quasi flat potential (Starobinsky inflation). Here it is investigated a new multifield scenario in which both the scalaron and…
