Isospin-breaking corrections pose a significant challenge to lattice simulations, both because of the splitting between the up and down quark masses and, in particular, the need to include QED effects. The RC* collaboration has developed the openQxD code, based on openQCD, which enables fully dynamical QCD+QED simulations through the implementation of C-periodic boundary conditions. We use this code to measure baryon masses, with a special focus on the {Ω^-} baryon mass, whose precise determination is especially important since it has been used to set the scale of lattice simulations. Due to the use of C-periodic boundary conditions, the two-point function of the {Ω^-} baryon gets additional partially connected contributions, which vanish in the infinite-volume limit and which we are computing for the first time. We will present preliminary results for baryon masses obtained on QCD ensembles with C-periodic boundary conditions, at an unphysical pion mass of approximately 400 MeV.
We present work designed to compute baryon masses on $N_f = 2 + 1$ CLS ensembles including isospin-breaking effects due to non-degenerate light quark masses and electromagnetic interactions. These effects are determined at leading order via a perturbative expansion around the iso-symmetric theory. We furthermore apply a group-theoretical operator construction for the various interpolators describing the different members of the baryon octet and decuplet based on a classification by spin, parity, and flavor content.
We present the status of an ongoing project aimed at the inclusion of isospin-breaking corrections arising from the non-degeneracy of the light quark masses and electromagnetic interactions in calculations of the low-lying octet and decuplet baryon masses. Our ultimate goal is to perform a precision determination of the lattice scale including isospin-breaking effects. We apply the perturbative formalism to isospin-symmetric $N_f=2+1$ CLS ensembles. We show results on baryon masses up to leading order in isospin-breaking corrections on two ensembles with $m_π\approx290\,\text{MeV}$ and $m_π\ap…
We present the results of the nucleon and $Ω$ baryon masses using staggered action for both valence and sea quarks. Three ensembles with the physical pion mass at approximate lattice spacings of $0.15$, $0.12$, and $0.088$fm are employed to extrapolate the masses to continuum and we obtain $M_N = 964(16)$ MeV and $M_Ω= 1678(9)$. Both statistical and systematic uncertainties are included in the nucleon mass, whereas only the statistical uncertainty is accounted for in the $Ω$ baryon mass.
The strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon interaction is investigated directly from the fundamental theory of the strong interaction, QCD. The HAL QCD method enables us to extract baryon interactions from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions without using any experimental information. We present our latest result on the $S = -2$ baryon interactions and discuss the H-dibaryon state using potentials which are calculated by using the (almost) physical point gauge configurations with large lattice volume of$(8.1{\rm{fm}})^4$ generated on the K-computer.
The masses of the low-lying baryons are evaluated using an ensemble with two degenerate light twisted mass clover-improved quarks with mass tuned to reproduce the physical pion mass. The Iwasaki improved gluonic action is employed. The coupling constant value corresponds to a lattice spacing of $a=0.0938(3)(2)$ fm, determined from the nucleon mass. We find that the clover term supresses isospin symmetry breaking as compared to our previous results using $N_f=2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. The masses of the hyperons and charmed baryons evaluated using this ensemble are in agreement with the expe…
In these proceedings we present preliminary results for the masses of the proton, neutron and $Ω^-$ baryons obtained from QCD+QED lattice simulations performed with four dynamical quarks using C$^*$ boundary conditions. These results are part of the ongoing effort of the RC${}^*$ collaboration discussed in the companion proceedings, and have been obtained on a single ensemble in which the renormalised electromagnetic coupling is $α_{\text{em}}\sim 0.04$, the physical volume is $L\sim 1.7$ fm and the masses of the four dynamical quarks have been tuned at the $U$--spin symmetric point $m_d=m_s$.…
Baryon chiral perturbation theory with Wilson fermions up to $\mathcal{O}(a^2)$ and discretization effects of latest $n_f=2+1$ LQCD octet baryon masses
We study the chiral expansion of the baryon octet and decuplet masses in the isospin limit. It is illustrated that a chiral expansion of the one-loop contributions is rapidly converging up to quark masses that generously encompasses the mass of the physical strange quark. We express the successive orders in terms of physical meson and baryon masses. In addition, owing to specific correlations amongst the chiral moments, we suggest a reordering of terms that make the convergence properties more manifest. Explicit expressions up to chiral order five are derived for all baryon masses at the one-l…
In this work, we investigate the mass corrections of the doubly charmed baryons up to $N^2LO$ in the extended-on-mass-shell (EOMS) renormalization scheme, comparing with the results of heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory. We find that the terms from the heavy baryon approach are a subset of those obtained in the EOMS scheme. By fitting the lattice data, we can determine the parameters $\tilde{m}$, $α$, $c_1$ and $c_7$ from the Lagrangian, while in the heavy baryon approach no information on $c_1$ can be obtained from the baryons mass. Correspondingly, the masses of $m_{Ξ_{cc}}$ and $m_{Ω_{…
$\mathcal{N} = 1$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory describes gluons interacting with gluinos, which are spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ Majorana particles in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. In addition to glueballs and mesonic bound states, the theory contains color neutral bound states of three gluinos, which are analogous to baryons in QCD. We calculate their correlation functions, involving ``sunset diagrams'' and ``spectacle diagrams'', numerically for gauge group SU(2) and present an update on the estimates for the lowest masses.
We consider the chiral Lagrangian for charmed baryon fields with $J^P =\frac{1}{2}^+$ or $J^P =\frac{3}{2}^+$ quantum numbers. A chiral expansion framework for the baryon ground state masses is worked out to N$^3$LO as to compute their dependence on the up, down and strange quark masses for finite box QCD lattice simulations. It is formulated in terms of on-shell meson and baryon masses. The convergence of such a scheme is illustrated with physical masses as taken from the PDG. The counter terms relevant at N$^3$LO are correlated systematically by large-$N_c$ sum rules to leading and subleadin…
The excited baryon masses are analyzed in the framework of the $1/N_c$ expansion using the available physical masses and also the masses obtained in lattice QCD for different quark masses. The baryon states are organized into irreducible representations of $SU(6)\times O(3)$, where the $[{\bf{56}},\ell^P=0^+]$ ground state and excited baryons, and the $[{\bf{56}},2^+]$ and $[{\bf{70}},1^-]$ excited states are analyzed. The analyses are carried out to order 1/Nc and first order in the quark masses. The issue of state identifications is discussed. Numerous parameter independent mass relations re…
We discuss the status of current dynamical lattice QCD simulations in connection to the emerging results on the strange and charmed baryon spectrum, excited states of the nucleon and the investigation of the structure of scalar mesons.
We report on a recent study of the ground-state octet baryon masses and sigma terms in covariant baryon chiral perturbation theory with the extended-on-mass-shell scheme up to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order. To take into account lattice QCD artifacts, the finite-volume corrections and finite lattice spacing discretization effects are carefully examined. We performed a simultaneous fit of all the $n_f = 2+1$ lattice octet baryon masses and found that the various lattice simulations are consistent with each other. Although the finite lattice spacing discretization effects up to $\mathcal{…
Until now, the first reported doubly charmed baryon $Ξ_{cc}^{+}(3520)$ is still a puzzle. It was discovered and confirmed by SELEX collaboration, but not confirmed by LHCb, BABAR, BELLE, FOCUS, or any other collaboration. In the present paper, by employing Regge phenomenology, we first express the mass of the ground state ($L$=0) doubly charmed baryon $Ω_{cc}^{*+}$ as a function of masses of the well established light baryons and singly charmed baryons. Inserting the recent experimental data, the mass of $Ω_{cc}^{*+}$ is given to be 3809$\pm$36 MeV, which is independent of any unobservable par…
Using a confining, symmetry-preserving regularisation of a vector$\times$vector contact interaction, we compute the spectra of ground-state pseudoscalar and vector $(f\bar g)$ mesons, scalar and axial-vector $(fg)$ diquarks, and $J^P=1/2^+, 3/2^+$ $(fgh)$ baryons, where $f,g,h \in \{u,d,s,c,b\}$. The diquark correlations are essentially dynamical and play a key role in formulating and solving the three-valence-quark baryon problems. The baryon spectrum obtained from this largely-algebraic approach reproduces the 22 known experimental masses with an accuracy of $2.9(2.4)$%. It also possesses th…
We discuss the extension of gauge-invariant electric and magnetic screening masses in the Quark-Gluon Plasma to the case of a finite baryon density, defining them in terms of a matrix of Polyakov loop correlators. We present lattice results for $N_f=2+1$ QCD with physical quark masses, obtained using the imaginary chemical potential approach, which indicate that the screening masses increase as a function of $μ_B$. A separate analysis is carried out for the theoretically interesting case $μ_B/T=3 i π$, where charge conjugation is not explicitly broken and the usual definition of the screening …
The chiral dynamics of the doubly heavy baryons is solely governed by the light quark. In this work, We have derived the chiral corrections to the mass of the doubly heavy baryons up to N$^3$LO. The mass splitting of $Ξ_{cc}$ and $Ω_{cc}$ at the N$^2$LO depends on one unknown low energy constant $c_7$. With the experimental mass of $Ξ_{cc}(3520)$ as the input, we estimate the mass of $Ω_{cc}$ to be around 3.678 GeV. Moreover, we have also performed a systematical analysis of the chiral corrections to the axial currents and axial charges of the doubly heavy baryons. The chiral structure and ana…
