The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) offers strong sensitivity to neutrinos from a Galactic core collapse supernova, providing a powerful probe of neutrino flavor conversion and the neutrino mass ordering. In this work, we study supernova neutrino oscillations at DUNE using quantum entanglement as an organizing framework. Treating the three flavor neutrino system as an effective multipartite quantum state, we quantify flavor correlations through the entanglement of formation, concurrence, and negativity, expressed directly in terms of flavor survival and transition probabilities. Benchmark scenarios defined by representative variations of the electron neutrino survival probability are constructed for each entanglement measure. Event rates and fluences are computed for a supernova at 10 kpc, and the mass ordering sensitivity is evaluated using detector-level simulations performed with the \texttt{SNOwGLoBES} framework, employing the Garching supernova flux model and including the dominant detection channels in liquid argon: $ν_e$ and $\barν_e$ charged-current interactions on argon and elastic scattering on electrons. We analyze both individual and combined detection channels and incorporate $5\%$ normalization and energy calibration systematic uncertainties. Our results show that DUNE achieves a $5σ$ determination of the neutrino mass ordering for a supernova at distances of $\sim 20$~kpc for the $ν_e$ charged current channel and $\sim 2$~kpc for the $\barν_e$ channel, with the reach depending on the entanglement scenario considered. These results demonstrate that entanglement based observables provide a complementary and robust framework for probing supernova neutrino oscillations and the neutrino mass ordering.
This article represents quantitative numerical analysis to find the sensitivity for the mass ordering and octant of atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$ within 3$σ$ range of oscillation parameters, in the context of three long base line (LBL) accelerator experiments viz. UNO, DUNE and NO$ν$A. We notice that on the basis of quantitative sensitivity pertaining to the event rate, it is possible to investigate the mass ordering within all experiments. Conclusively, like NO$ν$A and DUNE experiments, UNO experiment stands as better alternative for investigating mass ordering, especially when we need to…
In the era of precision neutrino physics, we study the influence of matter NSI on the question of neutrino mass ordering and its resolution. At long baseline experiments, since matter effects play a crucial role in addressing this very important question, it is timely to investigate how sub-leading effects due to NSI may affect and drastically alter inferences pertaining to this question. We demonstrate that the sensitivity to mass ordering gets significantly impacted due to NSI effects for various long baseline experiments including the upcoming long baseline experiment, Deep Underground Neut…
We study the possibility of extracting the neutrino mass ordering at the future Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment using atmospheric neutrinos, which will be available before the muon neutrino beam starts being perational. The large statistics of the atmospheric muon neutrino and antineutrino samples at the far detector, together with the baselines of thousands of kilometers that these atmospheric (anti)neutrinos travel, provide the ideal ingredients to extract the neutrino mass ordering via matter effects in the neutrino propagation through the Earth. Crucially, muon capture by Argon provid…
The DUNE/LBNF program aims to address key questions in neutrino physics and astroparticle physics. Realizing DUNE's potential to reconstruct low-energy particles in the 10-100 MeV energy range will bring significant benefits for all DUNE's science goals. In neutrino physics, low-energy sensitivity will improve neutrino energy reconstruction in the GeV range relevant for the kinematics of DUNE's long-baseline oscillation program. In astroparticle physics, low-energy capabilities will make DUNE's far detectors the world's best apparatus for studying the electron-neutrino flux from a supernova. T…
The neutrino mass ordering is one of the principal unknowns in the neutrino sector. Long baseline neutrino experiments have the potential of resolving this issue as they are sensitive to large matter effects. The superbeam experiment DUNE is one of the most promising candidates to study the neutrino mass hierarchy, along with NO$ν$A and T2K. But in the presence of non unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix, the capability of such experiments to discriminate between the two hierarchies gets suppressed. The mass hierarchy sensitivity of DUNE decreases in the presence of new physics. In this pap…
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), a 40-kton fiducial mass underground liquid argon time projection chamber experiment, will be sensitive to the electron-neutrino-flavor component of the burst of neutrinos expected from the next Galactic core-collapse supernova. Such an observation will bring unique insight into the astrophysics of core collapse as well as into the properties of neutrinos. The recent progress on detection and reconstruction of supernova burst neutrinos in DUNE, including the contribution of the light detection systems are presented.

Time of flight delay in the supernova neutrino signal offers a unique tool to set model-independent constraints on the absolute neutrino mass. The presence of a sharp time structure during a first emission phase, the so-called neutronization burst in the electron neutrino flavor time distribution, makes this channel a very powerful one. Large liquid argon underground detectors will provide precision measurements of the time dependence of the electron neutrino fluxes. We derive here a new $ν$ mass sensitivity attainable at the future DUNE far detector from a future supernova collapse in our gal…
Secret interactions of neutrinos with light new gauge bosons, $Z^\prime$, can lead to a rich phenomenology in supernova explosion as well as in the early Universe. This interaction can also lead to new decay modes for charged mesons, $π^+ (K^+) \to e^+ νZ'$, and subsequently to $Z'\to ν\barν$. After demonstrating that such an interaction can be accommodated within viable electroweak symmetric models, we study how the near detector (ND) of DUNE can probe this scenario. We also discuss how the DUNE ND can make it possible to reconstruct the flavor structure of the $Z^\prime$ coupling to neutrino…

We propose to use the unique event topology and reconstruction capabilities of liquid argon time projection chambers to study sub-GeV atmospheric neutrinos. The detection of low energy recoiled protons in DUNE allows for a determination of the leptonic $CP$-violating phase independent from the accelerator neutrino measurement. Our findings indicate that this analysis can exclude several values of $δ_{CP}$ beyond the $3σ$ level. Moreover, the determination of the sub-GeV atmospheric neutrino flux will have important consequences in the detection of diffuse supernova neutrinos and in dark matter…
In order to investigate the impact of collective neutrino oscillations (CNO) on the neutrino signal from a nearby supernova, we perform 3-flavor neutrino oscillation simulations employing the multiangle effect. The background hydrodynamic model is based on the neutrino hydrodynamic simulation of a 8.8 \Msun progenitor star. We find that CNO commences after some 100 ms post bounce. Before this, CNO is suppressed by matter-induced decoherence. In the inverted mass hierarchy, the spectrum of $\barν_e$ becomes softer after the onset of CNO. To evaluate the detectability of this modification, we de…
DUNE is an international project, currently in its design phase, for neutrino physics and proton-decay searches. It will consist of two detectors exposed to a megawatt-scale muon neutrino beam that will be produced at Fermilab (Illinois, USA). One detector will record particle interactions near the source of the beam, while a second, much larger, detector comprising four 10-kilotonne liquid argon TPCs will be installed at a depth of 1.5 km at SURF (South Dakota, USA), about 1300 kilometres away of the neutrino source. Among the primary scientific goals of DUNE is the precision measurement of t…
We analytically calculate the neutrino conversion probability $P_{μe}$ in the presence of sterile neutrinos, with exact dependence on $Δm^2_{41}$ and with matter effects explicitly included. Using perturbative expansion in small parameters, the terms involving the small mixing angles $θ_{24}$ and $θ_{34}$ can be separated out, with $θ_{34}$ dependence only arising due to matter effects. We express $P_{μe}$ in terms of the quantities of the form $\sin(x)/x$, which helps in elucidating its dependence on matter effects and a wide range of $Δm^2_{41}$ values. Our analytic expressions allow us to p…
The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) could be revolutionary for MeV neutrino astrophysics, because of its huge detector volume, unique event reconstruction capabilities, and excellent sensitivity to the $ν_e$ flavor. However, its backgrounds are not yet known. A major background is expected due to muon spallation of argon, which produces unstable isotopes that later beta decay. We present the first comprehensive study of MeV spallation backgrounds in argon, detailing isotope production mechanisms and decay properties, analyzing beta energy and time distributions, and proposing exper…
The diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB) is a powerful future tool to constrain core-collapse explosion mechanisms without observation of a nearby event, and the corresponding signal has been calculated for a variety of collapse models. For Supernova (SN) 1987A, a peculiar double neutrino burst was detected, but models for the double collapse have never been studied in the DSNB context. Here, we fill this gap and compare the DSNB signal expected in the Standard Collapse (SC) and the Double Collapse (DC) models in various future detectors, including Hyper-Kamiokande, JUNO, DUNE and the …
If the heaviest neutrino mass eigenstate is unstable, its decay modes could include lighter neutrino eigenstates. In this case part of the decay products could be visible, as they would interact at neutrino detectors via mixing. At neutrino oscillation experiments, a characteristic signature of such \emph{visible neutrino decay} would be an apparent excess of events at low energies. We focus on a simple phenomenological model in which the heaviest neutrino decays as $ν_3 \rightarrow ν_{1,2} + ϕ$, where $ϕ$ is a new light scalar. If neutrinos are Majorana particles the helicity-flipping decays …
The detection of the diffuse supernova neutrino background (DSNB) will preciously contribute to gauge the properties of the core-collapse supernova population. We estimate the DSNB event rate in the next-generation neutrino detectors, Hyper-Kamiokande enriched with Gadolinium, JUNO, and DUNE. The determination of the supernova unknowns through the DSNB will be heavily driven by Hyper-Kamiokande, given its higher expected event rate, and complemented by DUNE that will help in reducing the parameters uncertainties. Meanwhile, JUNO will be sensitive to the DSNB signal over the largest energy rang…
The discovery of non-zero neutrino masses invites one to consider decays of heavier neutrinos into lighter ones. We investigate the impact of two-body decays of neutrinos on the neutronization burst of a core-collapse supernova -- the large burst of $ν_e$ during the first 25 ms post core-bounce. In the models we consider, the $ν_e$, produced mainly as a $ν_3\,(ν_2)$ in the normal (inverted) mass ordering, are allowed to decay to $ν_1\,(ν_3)$ or $\barν_1\,(\barν_3)$, and an almost massless scalar. These decays can lead to the appearance of a neutronization peak for a normal mass ordering or the…
The strange quark contribution to proton's spin ($Δs$) is a fundamental quantity that is poorly determined from current experiments. Neutrino-proton elastic scattering (pES) is a promising channel to measure this quantity, and requires an intense source of low-energy neutrinos and a low-threshold detector with excellent resolution. In this paper, we propose that neutrinos from a galactic supernova and their interactions with protons in large-volume scintillation detectors can be utilized to determine $Δs$. The spectra of all flavors of supernova neutrinos can be independently determined using …
Leptonic CP violation is one of the most important topics in neutrino physics. CP violation in the neutrino sector is strongly related to the nature of neutrinos: whether they are Dirac or Majorana particles. In \cite{Popov:2021icg} we have shown that for Majorana neutrinos arance of nonzero Majorana CP-violating phases combined with strong magnetic field during supernova core-collaple can induce new resonances in neutrino oscillations, for example in $ν_e \to \barν_τ$ channel. In this contribution we further study new resonances in Majorana neutrino oscillations, in particular energy dependen…
Several measures of quantum correlations such as Leggett-Garg and Bell-type inequalities have been extensively studied in the context of neutrino oscillations. However these analyses are performed under the assumption of standard model (SM) interactions of neutrinos. In this work we study new physics effects on $l_1$-norm based measure of quantum coherence which quantifies the quantumness embedded in the system and is also intrinsically related to various measures of quantum correlations. Moreover, it is considered to be a resource theoretical tool which can be utilized in quantum algorithms a…

One of the few remaining unknowns in the standard three-flavor neutrino oscillation paradigm is the ordering of neutrino masses. In this work we propose a novel method for determining neutrino mass ordering using the time information on early supernova neutrino events. In a core-collapse supernova, neutrinos are produced earlier than antineutrinos and, depending on the mass ordering which affects the adiabatic flavor evolution, may cause earlier observable signals in $ν_e$ detection channels than in others. Hence, the time differences are sensitive to the mass ordering. We find that using the …
We investigate effects of non-zero Dirac and Majorana CP violating phases on neutrino-antineutrino oscillations in a magnetic field of astrophysical environments. It is shown that in the presence of strong magnetic fields and dense matter, non-zero CP phases can induce new resonances in the oscillations channels $ν_e \leftrightarrow \barν_e$, $ν_e \leftrightarrow \barν_μ$ and $ν_e \leftrightarrow \barν_τ$. We also consider all other possible oscillation channels with $ν_μ$ and $ν_τ$ in the initial state. The resonances can potentially lead to significant phenomena in neutrino oscillations acce…
We inspect recently updated neutrino oscillation data -- specifically coming from the Tokai to Kamioka and NuMI Off-axis $ν_e$ Appearance experiments -- and how they are analyzed to determine whether the neutrino mass ordering is normal ($m_1 < m_2 < m_3$) or inverted ($m_3 < m_1 < m_2$). We show that, despite previous results giving a strong preference for the normal ordering, with the newest data from T2K and NOvA, this preference has all but vanished. Additionally, we highlight the importance of this result for non-oscillation probes of neutrinos, including neutrinoless double beta decay an…
Recent global fit analyses of oscillation data show a preference for normal mass ordering (NMO) at 2.5$σ$ and provide 1.6$σ$ indications for lower $θ_{23}$ octant and leptonic CP violation. A high-precision measurement of $θ_{23}$ is pivotal to convert these hints into discoveries. In this work, we study in detail the capabilities of DUNE to establish the deviation from maximal $θ_{23}$ and to resolve its octant at high confidence levels. We exhibit the possible correlations and degeneracies among $\sin^2θ_{23}$, $Δm^2_{31}$, and $δ_{CP}$ in disappearance and appearance oscillation channels at…
We investigate the potential of the next generation long-baseline neutrino experiments DUNE and T2HK as well as the upcoming reactor experiment JUNO to constrain Non-Standard Interaction (NSI) parameters. JUNO is going to provide the most precise measurements of solar neutrino oscillation parameters as well as determining the neutrino mass ordering. We study how the results of JUNO combined with those of long-baseline neutrino experiments such as DUNE and T2HK can help to determine oscillation parameters and to constrain NSI parameters. We present excluded regions in NSI parameter space, $ε_{α…
We revisit the possibility that neutrinos undergo non-radiative decay. We investigate the potential to extract information on the neutrino lifetime-to-mass ratio from the diffuse supernova neutrino background. To this aim, we explicitly consider the current uncertainties on the core-collapse supernova rate and the fraction of failed supernovae. We present predictions in a full 3 neutrino framework in the absence and presence of neutrino non-radiative decay, for the Super-Kamiokande+Gd, the JUNO, the Hyper-Kamiokande, and the DUNE experiments, that should observe the diffuse supernova neutrino …
Neutrino-neutrino interactions can lead to collective flavor conversion in the dense parts of a core collapse supernova. Growing instabilities that lead to collective conversions have been studied intensely in the limit of two-neutrino species and occur for inverted mass ordering in the case of a perfectly spherical supernova. We examine two simple models of colliding and intersecting neutrino beams and show, that for three neutrino species instabilities exist also for normal mass ordering even in the case of a fully symmetric system. Whereas the instability for inverted mass ordering is assoc…
It has long been recognized that the neutrinos detected from the next core-collapse supernova in the Galaxy have the potential to reveal important information about the dynamics of the explosion and the nucleosynthesis conditions as well as allowing us to probe the properties of the neutrino itself. The neutrinos emitted from thermonuclear - type Ia - supernovae also possess the same potential, although these supernovae are dimmer neutrino sources. For the first time, we calculate the time, energy, line of sight, and neutrino-flavor-dependent features of the neutrino signal expected from a thr…
In this paper we rewrite the neutrino mixing angles and mass squared differences in matter given, in our original paper, in a notation that is more conventional for the reader. Replacing the usual neutrino mixing angles and mass squared differences in the expressions for the vacuum oscillation probabilities with these matter mixing angles and mass squared differences gives an excellent approximation to the oscillation probabilities in matter. Comparisons for T2K, NOvA, T2HKK and DUNE are also given for neutrinos and anti-neutrinos, disappearance and appearance channels, normal ordering and inv…
