On a Conjecture of Schmidt for the Parametric Geometry of Numbers

With the help of the recently introduced parametric geometry of numbers by W. M. Schmidt and L. Summerer, we prove a strong version of a conjecture of Schmidt concerning the successive minima of a lattice.

Multiplicative parametric geometry of numbers and transference theorems for lattice exponents

In this paper we adapt parametric geometry of numbers developed by Wolfgang Schmidt and Leonard Summerer to a multiplicative setting, and derive a chain of inequalities for the corresponding exponents which splits the transference inequality for Diophantine exponents of lattices in the same way Khintchine's transference inequalities for simultaneous approximation can be split.

This is a revised compilation of the papers arXiv:1105.1554 and arXiv:1105.5823. We develop some of the ideas belonging to W.Schmidt and L.Summerer to define intermediate Diophantine exponents and split several transference inequalities into a chain of inequalities for intermediate exponents.

Continued fractions and parametric geometry of numbers

Recently, W. M. Schmidt and L. Summerer developed a new theory called Parametric Geometry of Numbers which approximates the behaviour of the successive minima of a family of convex bodies in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ related to the problem of simultaneous rational approximation to given real numbers. In the case of one number, we show that the qualitative behaviour of the minima reflects the continued fraction expansion of the smallest distance from this number to an integer.

Counter-examples in Parametric Geometry of Numbers

Thanks to recent advances in parametric geometry of numbers, we know that the spectrum of any set of $m$ exponents of Diophantine approximation to points in $\mathbb{R}^n$ (in a general abstract setting) is a compact connected subset of $\mathbb{R}^m$. Moreover, this set is semi-algebraic and closed under coordinate-wise minimum for $n\le 3$. In this paper, we give examples showing that for $n\ge 4$ each of the latter properties may fail.

Parametric geometry of numbers in function fields

Parametric geometry of numbers is a new theory, recently created by Schmidt and Summerer, which unifies and simplifies many aspects of classical Diophantine approximations, providing a handle on problems which previously seemed out of reach. Our goal is to transpose this theory to fields of rational functions in one variable and to analyze in that context the problem of simultaneous approximation to exponential functions.

Splitting transference inequalities with the help of Wolfgang Schmidt's parametric geometry of numbers

This paper is a sequel to our previous paper arXiv:1105.1554, where we defined two types of intermediate Diophantine exponents, connected them to Schmidt exponents and split Dyson's transference inequality into a chain of inequalities for intermediate exponents. Here we present splitting of some other transference inequalities involving both regular and uniform Diophantine exponents.

How to split Dyson's transference inequality with the help of Wolfgang Schmidt's parametric geometry of numbers

In this paper we develop some of the ideas belonging to W.Schmidt and L.Summerer to define intermediate Diophantine exponents and split Dyson's transference inequality into a chain of inequalities for intermediate exponents. This splitting generalizes the analogous result of M.Laurent and Y.Bugeaud for Khintchine's transference inequalities.
