We investigate the gravitational field of a kinetic gas beyond its usual derivation from the second moment of the one-particle distribution function (1PDF), that serves as energy-momentum tensor in the Einstein equations. This standard procedure raises the question why the other moments of the 1PDF (which are needed to fully characterize the kinematical properties of the gas) do not contribute to the gravitational field and what could be their relevance in addressing the dark energy problem? Using the canonical coupling of the entire 1PDF to Finsler spacetime geometry via the Finsler gravity equation, we show that these higher moments contribute non-trivially. A Finslerian geometric description of our universe allows us to determine not only the scale factor but also of the causal structure dynamically. We find that already a Finslerian vacuum solution naturally permits an exponential expanding universe, without the need for a cosmological constant or any additional quantities. This solution possesses a causal structure which is a mild deformation of the causal structure of Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) geometry; close to the rest frame defined by cosmological time (i.e., for slowly moving objects), the causal structures of the two geometries are nearly indistinguishable.
Gravitational field equations in Randers-Finsler space of approximate Berwald type are investigated. A modified Friedmann model is proposed. It is showed that the accelerated expanding universe is guaranteed by a constrained Randers-Finsler structure without invoking dark energy. The geodesic in Randers-Finsler space is studied. The additional term in the geodesic equation acts as repulsive force against the gravity.
Finsler geometry is an important extension of Riemann geometry, in which to each point of the spacetime manifold an arbitrary internal variable is associated. Interesting Finsler geometries, with many physical applications, are the Randers and Kropina type geometries, respectively. A subclass of Finsler geometries is represented by the osculating Finsler spaces, in which the internal variable is a function of the base manifold coordinates only. In an osculating Finsler geometry one introduces the Barthel connection, which has the remarkable property that it is the Levi-Civita connection of a R…
We investigate the bounce realization in the framework of generalized modified gravities arising from Finsler and Finsler-like geometries. In particular, the richer intrinsic geometrical structure is reflected in the appearance of extra degrees of freedom in the Friedmann equations that can drive the bounce. We examine various Finsler and Finsler-like constructions. In the cases of general very special relativity as well as of Finsler-like gravity on the tangent bundle we show that a bounce cannot be easily obtained. However, in the Finsler-Randers space the induced scalar anisotropy can fulfi…
In this article we present the cosmological equivalence between the relativistic Finsler-Randers cosmology, with dark energy and modified gravity constructions, at the background level. Starting from a small deviation from the quadraticity of the Riemannian geometry, through which the local structure of General Relativity is modified and the curvature theory is extended, we extract the modified Friedmann equation. The corresponding extended Finsler-Randers cosmology is very interesting, and it can mimic dark-energy and modified gravity, describing a large class of scale-factor evolutions, from…
Gravitational field equations in Randers-Finsler space of approximate Berwald type are investigated. A modified Friedmann equation and a new luminosity distance-redshift relation is proposed. A best-fit to the Type Ia supernovae (SNe) observations yields that the $Ω_Λ$ in the $Λ$-CDM model is suppressed to almost zero. This fact indicates that the astronomical observations on the Type Ia SNe can be described well without invoking any form of dark energy. The best-fit age of the universe is given. It is in agreement with the age of our galaxy.
We propose a new model for the description of a gravitating multi particle system, viewed as a kinetic gas. The properties of the, colliding or non-colliding, particles are encoded into a so called one-particle distribution function, which is a density on the space of allowed particle positions and velocities, i.e. on the tangent bundle of the spacetime manifold. We argue that an appropriate theory of gravity, describing the gravitational field generated by a kinetic gas, must also be modeled on the tangent bundle. The most natural mathematical framework for this task is Finsler spacetime geom…
A generalized model of space-time is given, taking into consideration the anisotropic structure of fields which are depended on the position and the direction (velocity). In this framework a generalized FRW-metric the Raychaudhouri and Friedmann equations are studied.A long range vector field of cosmological origin is considered in relation to the physical geometry of space-time in which Cartan connection has a fundamental role. The generalised Friedmann equations are produced including anisotropic terms. The variation of anisotropy $z_t$ is expressed in terms of the Cartan torsion tensor of the …
We further investigate the dark energy model based on the Finsler geometry inspired osculating Barthel-Kropina cosmology. The Barthel-Kropina cosmological approach is based on the introduction of a Barthel connection in an osculating Finsler geometry, with the connection having the property that it is the Levi-Civita connection of a Riemannian metric. From the generalized Friedmann equations of the Barthel-Kropina model, obtained by assuming that the background Riemannian metric is of the Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker type, an effective geometric dark energy component can be generated, w…
We consider the cosmological evolution in an osculating point Barthel-Randers type geometry, in which to each point of the space-time manifold an arbitrary point vector field is associated. This Finsler type geometry is assumed to describe the physical properties of the gravitational field, as well as the cosmological dynamics. For the Barthel-Randers geometry the connection is given by the Levi-Civita connection of the associated Riemann metric. The generalized Friedmann equations in the Barthel-Randers geometry are obtained by considering that the background Riemannian metric in the Randers …
The Chaplygin gas has been proposed as a possible dark energy, dark matter candidate. As a working fluid in a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe, it exhibits early behavior reminiscent of dark matter, but at later times is more akin to a cosmological constant. In any such universe, however, one can expect local perturbations to form. Here we obtain the general equations for a self-gravitating relativistic Chaplygin gas. We solve these equations and obtain the mass-radius relationship for such structures, showing that only in the phantom regime is the mass-radius relationship large enough to b…
We have considered flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) model of the universe and reviewed the modified Chaplygin gas as the fluid source. Associated with the scalar field model, we have determined the Hubble parameter as a generating function in terms of the scalar field. Instead of hyperbolic function, we have taken Jacobi elliptic function and Abel function in the generating function and obtained modified Chaplygin-Jacobi gas (MCJG) and modified Chaplygin-Abel gas (MCAG) equation of states, respectively. Next, we have assumed that the universe filled in dark matter, radiation, and dark ene…
We investigate a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker spacetime filled with k-essence and find the set of functions F which generate three different families of extended tachyon fields and Chaplygin gases. They lead to accelerated and superaccelerated expanding scenarios. For any function F, we find the first integral of the k-field equation when the k-field is driven by an inverse square potential or by a constant one. In the former, we obtain the general solution of the coupled Einstein-k-field equations for a linear function F. This model shares the same kinematics of the background geometry wit…
In this paper I shall show how the notions of Finsler geometry can be used to construct a similar geometry using a scalar field, f, on the cotangent bundle of a differentiable manifold M. This will enable me to use the second vertical derivatives of f, along with the differential of a scalar field phi on M, to construct a Lorentzian metric on M that depends upon phi. I refer to a field theory based upon a manifold with such a Lorentzian structure as a scalar-scalar field theory. We shall study such a field theory when f is chosen so that the resultant metric on M has the form of a Friedmann-Le…
