In this paper, we study the diffusion approximation for slow-fast stochastic differential equations with state-dependent switching, where the slow component $X^{\varepsilon}$ is the solution of a stochastic differential equation with additional homogenization term, while the fast component $α^{\varepsilon}$ is a switching process. We first prove the weak convergence of $\{X^\varepsilon\}_{0<\varepsilon\leq 1}$ to $\bar{X}$ in the space of continuous functions, as $\varepsilon\rightarrow 0$. Using the martingale problem approach and Poisson equation associated with a Markov chain, we identify this weak limiting process as the unique solution $\bar{X}$ of a new stochastic differential equation, which has new drift and diffusion terms that differ from those in the original equation. Next, we prove the order $1/2$ of weak convergence of $X^{\varepsilon}_t$ to $\bar{X}_t$ by applying suitable test functions $ϕ$, for any $t\in [0, T]$. Additionally, we provide an example to illustrate that the order we achieve is optimal.
In this paper we consider a class of stochastic differential equations driven by subordinate Brownian motion with Markovian switching. We use Malliavin calculus to study the smoothness of the density for the solution under uniform Hörmander's type condition.
In this paper we study a zero-sum switching game and its verification theorems expressed in terms of either a system of Reflected Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (RBSDEs in short) with bilateral interconnected obstacles or a system of parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs in short) with bilateral interconnected obstacles as well. We show that each one of the systems has a unique solution. Then we show that the game has a value.
The paper is dedicated to studying the problem of existence and uniqueness of solutions as well as existence of and exponential convergence to invariant measures for McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations with Markovian switching. Since the coefficients are only locally Lipschitz, we need to truncate them both in space and distribution variables simultaneously to get the global existence of solutions under the Lyapunov condition. Furthermore, if the Lyapunov condition is strengthened, we establish the exponential convergence of solutions' distributions to the unique invariant measure …
We consider a fully-coupled slow-fast system of McKean-Vlasov SDEs with full dependence on the slow and fast component and on the law of the slow component and derive convergence rates to its homogenized limit. We do not make periodicity assumptions, but we impose conditions on the fast motion to guarantee ergodicity. In the course of the proof we obtain related ergodic theorems and we gain results on the regularity of Poisson type of equations and of the associated Cauchy-Problem on the Wasserstein space that are of independent interest.
We address a general optimal switching problem over finite horizon for a stochastic system described by a differential equation driven by Brownian motion. The main novelty is the fact that we allow for infinitely many modes (or regimes, i.e. the possible values of the piecewise-constant control process). We allow all the given coefficients in the model to be path-dependent, that is, their value at any time depends on the past trajectory of the controlled system. The main aim is to introduce a suitable (scalar) backward stochastic differential equation (BSDE), with a constraint on the martingal…
We construct Wong--Zakai approximations of time--inhomogeneous stochastic differential equations with regime switching (RSSDEs), and provide a convergence rate. %Given a family of finite-variation processes $\{\mathcal{F}^λ\}_{λ\ge 0}$ that converge strongly to a standard Brownian motion $\mathcal{B}$, we construct pathwise approximations for regime-switching, time-inhomogeneous stochastic differential equations in the Wong-Zakai sense. Moreover, we determine the rate of strong convergence to the solutions of such regime-switching SDEs, showing that this rate is almost as good as that of $\{\m…

Using Zvonkin's transform and the Poisson equation in $R^d$ with a parameter, we prove the averaging principle for stochastic differential equations with time-dependent Hölder continuous coefficients. Sharp convergence rates with order $(α\wedge1)/2$ in the strong sense and $(α/2)\wedge1$ in the weak sense are obtained, considerably extending the existing results in the literature. Moreover, we prove that the convergence of the multi-scale system to the effective equation depends only on the regularity of the coefficients of the equation for the slow variable, and does not depend on the regula…
In this paper, we aim to study the diffusion approximation for multi-scale McKean-Vlasov stochastic differential equations. More precisely, we prove the weak convergence of slow process $X^\varepsilon$ in $C([0,T];\mathbb{R}^n)$ towards the limiting process $X$ that is the solution of a distribution dependent stochastic differential equation in which some new drift and diffusion terms compared to the original equation appear. The main contribution is to use two different methods to explicitly characterize the limiting equations respectively. The obtained diffusion coefficients in the limiting …
We design numerical schemes for a class of slow-fast systems of stochastic differential equations, where the fast component is an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and the slow component is driven by a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H>1/2$. We establish the asymptotic preserving property of the proposed scheme: when the time-scale parameter goes to $0$, a limiting scheme which is consistent with the averaged equation is obtained. With this numerical analysis point of view, we thus illustrate the recently proved averaging result for the considered SDE systems and the main differences wit…
Recently, it has been shown in [Hairer, M., Hutzenthaler, M., Jentzen, A., Loss of regularity for Kolmogorov equations, Ann. Probab. 43, 2 (2015), 468--527] that there exists a system of stochastic differential equations (SDE) on the time interval $[0,T]$ with infinitely often differentiable and bounded coefficients such that the Euler scheme with equidistant time steps converges to the solution of this SDE at the final time in the strong sense but with no polynomial rate. Even worse, in [Jentzen, A., Müller-Gronbach, T., and Yaroslavtseva, L. On stochastic differential equations with arbitrar…
We study a general $k$ dimensional infinite server queues process with Markov switching, Poisson arrivals and where the service times are fat tailed with index $α\in (0,1)$. When the arrival rate is sped up by a factor $n^γ$, the transition probabilities of the underlying Markov chain are divided by $n^γ$ and the service times are divided by $n$, we identify two regimes (''fast arrivals'', when $γ>α$, and ''equilibrium'', when $γ=α$) in which we prove that a properly rescaled process converges pointwise in distribution to some limiting process. In a third ''slow arrivals'' regime, $γ<α$, we sh…
We study a family of numerical schemes applied to a class of multiscale systems of stochastic differential equations. When the time scale separation parameter vanishes, a well-known Smoluchowski--Kramers diffusion approximation result states that the slow component of the considered system converges to the solution of a standard Itô stochastic differential equation. We propose and analyse schemes for strong and weak effective approximation of the slow component. Such schemes satisfy an asymptotic preserving property and generalize the methods proposed in a recent article. We fill a gap in the …
We study a family of numerical schemes applied to a class of multiscale systems of stochastic differential equations. When the time scale separation parameter vanishes, a well-known homogenization or Wong--Zakai diffusion approximation result states that the slow component of the considered system converges to the solution of a stochastic differential equation driven by a real-valued Wiener process, with Stratonovich interpretation of the noise. We propose and analyse schemes for effective approximation of the slow component. Such schemes satisfy an asymptotic preserving property and generaliz…
Exponential stability of the nonlinear filtering equation is revisited, when the signal is a finite state Markov chain. An asymptotic upper bound for the filtering error due to incorrect initial condition is derived in the case of slowly switching signal.
This work studies the averaging principle for a fully coupled two time-scale system, whose slow process is a diffusion process and fast process is a purely jumping process on an infinitely countable state space. The ergodicity of the fast process has important impact on the limit system and the averaging principle. We showed that under strongly ergodic condition, the limit system admits a unique solution, and the slow process converges in the L1-norm to the limit system. However, under certain weaker ergodicity condition, the limit system admits a solution, but not necessarily unique, and the …
The coefficients of the stochastic differential equations with Markovian switching (SDEwMS) additionally depend on a Markov chain and there is no notion of differentiating such functions with respect to the Markov chain. In particular, this implies that the Itô-Taylor expansion for SDEwMS is not a straightforward extension of the Itô-Taylor expansion for stochastic differential equations (SDEs). Further, higher-order numerical schemes for SDEwMS are not available in the literature, perhaps because of the absence of the Itô-Taylor expansion. In this article, first, we overcome these challenges …
We study the Crank-Nicolson scheme for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by multidimensional fractional Brownian motion $(B^{1}, \dots, B^{m})$ with Hurst parameter $H \in (\frac 12,1)$. It is well-known that for ordinary differential equations with proper conditions on the regularity of the coefficients, the Crank-Nicolson scheme achieves a convergence rate of $n^{-2}$, regardless of the dimension. In this paper we show that, due to the interactions between the driving processes $ B^{1}, \dots, B^{m} $, the corresponding Crank-Nicolson scheme for $m$-dimensional SDEs has a slowe…
In this paper, we investigate periodic solutions of regime-switching jump diffusions. We first show the well-posedness of solutions to the SDEs corresponding to the hybrid system. Then, we derive the strong Feller property and irreducibility of the associated time-inhomogeneous semigroups. Finally, we establish the existence and uniqueness of periodic solutions. Concrete examples are presented to illustrate the results.
This work is devoted to examining qualitative properties of dynamic systems, in particular, limit cycles of stochastic differential equations with both rapid switching and small diffusion. The systems are featured by multi-scale formulation, highlighted by the presence of two small parameters $ε$ and $δ$. Associated with the underlying systems, there are averaged or limit systems. Suppose that for each pair of the parameters, the solution of the corresponding equation has an invariant probability measure $μ^{ε,δ}$, and that the averaged equation has a limit cycle in which there is an averaged …
We present the validity of stochastic averaging principle for non-autonomous slow-fast stochastic differential equations (SDEs) whose fast motions admit random periodic solutions. Our investigation is motivated by some problems arising from multi-scale stochastic dynamical systems, where configurations are time dependent due to nonlinearity of the underlying vector fields and the onset of time dependent random invariant sets. Averaging principle with respect to uniform ergodicity of the fast motion is no longer available in this scenario. Lyapunov second method together with synchronous coupli…
This paper investigates a non-autonomous slow-fast system, which is generalized by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with locally Lipschitz coefficients, subjected to standard Brownian motion (Bm) and fractional Brownian motion (fBm) with Hurst parameter 1/2<H<1. We concentrate on how to handle both types of integrals with respect to Bm and fBm and the locally Lispchitz continuity. The pathwise approach and the Ito stochastic calculus are combined with the technique of stopping time to establish the averaging principle where the averaged equation is defined. Then, the slow component of …
Recently in [M. Hairer, M. Hutzenthaler, and A. Jentzen, Ann. Probab. 43, 2 (2015), 468--527] and [A. Jentzen, T. Müller-Gronbach, and L. Yaroslavtseva, Commun. Math. Sci. 14, 6 (2016), 1477--1500] stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with smooth coefficient functions have been constructed which have an arbitrarily slowly converging modulus of continuity in the initial value. In these SDEs it is crucial that some of the first order partial derivatives of the drift coefficient functions grow at least exponentially and, in particular, quicker than any polynomial. However, in applications SDE…
We study some SDEs derived from the $q\to 1$ limit of a 2D surface growth model called the $q$-Whittaker process. The fluctuations are proven to exhibit Gaussian characteristics that "come down from infinity": After rescaling and re-centering, convergence to the time-inverted stationary additive stochastic heat equation holds. The point of view in this paper is a probabilistic representation of the SDEs by independent sums. By this connection, the normal and Poisson approximations and the in-between slow decorrelation, all in particular integrated forms, explain the convergence of the re-cente…

We consider the piecewise-deterministic Markov process obtained by randomly switching between the flows generated by a finite set of smooth vector fields on a compact set. We obtain Hörmander-type conditions on the vector fields guaranteeing that the stationary density is: $C^k$ whenever the jump rates are sufficiently fast, for any $k<\infty$; unbounded whenever the jump rates are sufficiently slow and lower semi-continuous regardless of the jump rates. Our proofs are probabilistic, relying on a novel application of stopping times.
In this paper we consider three classes of interacting particle systems on $\mathbb Z$: independent random walks, the exclusion process, and the inclusion process. We allow particles to switch their jump rate (the rate identifies the type of particle) between $1$ (fast particles) and $ε\in[0,1]$ (slow particles). The switch between the two jump rates happens at rate $γ\in(0,\infty)$. In the exclusion process, the interaction is such that each site can be occupied by at most one particle of each type. In the inclusion process, the interaction takes places between particles of the same type at d…
