More than 300 pulsars have been discovered in Galactic globular clusters; however, none have been found in open clusters. Here we present results from 20-hour pulsar searching observations in seven open clusters with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Our first discovery is a 1.9-second pulsar (J1922+37) found in the direction of the old open cluster NGC 6791. The measured dispersion measure (DM) implies a distance of 4.79 kpc and 8.92 kpc based on the NE2001 and YMW16 electron density models, respectively. Given the large uncertainty of DM distance estimates, it is likely that PSR J1922+37 is indeed a member of NGC 6791, for which the distance is $4.19\pm0.02$ kpc based on Gaia Data Release 3. If confirmed, PSR J1922+37 will be the first pulsar found in Galactic open clusters. We outline future observations that can confirm this pulsar-open cluster association and discuss the general prospects of finding pulsars in open clusters.
We present a deep Chandra X-ray Observatory study of the peculiar binary radio millisecond pulsar PSR J1740--5340 and candidate millisecond pulsars (MSPs) in the globular cluster NGC 6397. The X-rays from PSR J1740--5340 appear to be non-thermal and exhibit variability at the binary period. These properties suggest the presence of a relativistic intrabinary shock formed due to interaction of a relativistic rotation-powered pulsar wind and outflow from the unusual "red-straggler/sub-subgiant" companion. We find the X-ray source U18 to show similar X-ray and optical properties to those of PSR J1…
The millisecond pulsar PSR J1740-5340 in the globular cluster NGC 6397 shows radio eclipses over ~40% of its binary orbit. A first Chandra observation revealed indications for the X-ray flux being orbit dependent as well. In this work we analysed five data sets of archival Chandra data taken between 2000 and 2007 in order to investigate the emission across the pulsar's binary orbit. Utilizing archival Chandra observations of PSR J1740-5340, we have performed a systematic timing and spectral analysis of this binary system. Using a chi-square-test the significance for intra-binary orbital modula…
We report the first wideband monitoring observations of PSR J1803-3002A, a relatively bright millisecond pulsar in the globular cluster NGC 6522 with a spin period of 7.1 ms and no known binary companion. These observations were performed using the Parkes 64-m radio telescope with the Ultra-Wideband Low (UWL) receiver system, which covers 704 to 4032 MHz. We confirm that PSR J1803-3002A is an isolated millisecond pulsar located near the cluster center and probe the emission properties of the pulsar over the wide observed band. The mean pulse profile consists of three components, with the outer…
We report our analysis results for the globular cluster (GC) NGC~6341 (M92), as a millisecond pulsar (MSP) J1717$+$4308A has recently been reported found in this GC. The data used are from the Large Area Telescope onboard the {\it Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi)}. We detect $γ$-ray pulsations of the MSP at a $4.4σ$ confidence level (the corresponding weighted H-test value is $\sim$28.4). This MSP, the fourth $γ$-ray pulsar found in a GC, does not have significant off-pulse emission and has $γ$-ray luminosity and efficiency $1.3\times10^{34}$\,erg\,s$^{-1}$ and 1.7\% respectively. In or…
Motivated by the newly discovery of a spin period 1.83\,ms pulsar J1835$-$3259B in the globular cluster (GC) NGC~6652, we analyze the gamma-ray data obtained with the Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard {\it Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi)} for the GC and detect the pulsations of this millisecond pulsar (MSP) at a 5.4$σ$ confidence level (the weighted H-test value is $\sim 41$). From timing analysis of the data, a pulse profile that is similar to the radio one is established. We thus consider that we have detected the \gr\ emission of the MSP, and discuss the implications. Based on our …

In this paper, we have considered a twofluid model assuming that the pulsars are made of ordinary matter admixed with dark matter.Contribution of dark matter comes from the fitting of the rotation curves of the SPARC sample of galaxies[95]. For this we have investigated the dark matter based on the Singular Isothermal Sphere (SIS) dark matter density profile in the galactic halo region. Considering this twofluid model, we have studied the physical features of the pulsars present in different galaxy in details. Here, we compute the probable radii, compactness (u) and surface red-shift (Zs) of t…
We report on the X-ray properties of four rotation-powered pulsars with characteristic ages in the range 0.3-5 Myr, derived from the analysis of XMM-Newton archival observations. We found convincing evidence of thermal emission only in the phase-averaged spectrum of PSR B0114+58, that is well fitted by a blackbody with temperature kT = $0.17 \pm 0.02$ keV and emitting radius R = $405_{-90}^{+110}$ m, consistent with the size of its polar cap. The other three considered pulsars, PSR B0628-28, PSR B0919+06 and PSR B1133+16, have phase-averaged spectra well described by single power-laws with pho…
By using XSHOOTER spectra acquired at the ESO Very Large Telescope, we have studied the surface chemical composition of the companion star to the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1740-5340 in the globular cluster NGC 6397. The measured abundances of Fe, Mg, Al and Na confirm that the star belongs to the cluster. On the other hand, the measured surface abundance of nitrogen ([N/Fe]=+0.53 +- 0.15 dex) combined with the carbon upper limit ([C/Fe] <-2 dex) previously obtained from UVES spectra allow us to put severe constraints on its nature, strongly suggesting that the pulsar companion is a deeply…
We report on a Hubble Space Telescope detection of the nearby, old pulsar B0950+08 ($d\simeq 262$ pc, spin-down age 17.5 Myr) in two far-ultraviolet (FUV) bands. We measured the mean flux densities $\bar{f}_ν= 109\pm 6$ nJy and $83\pm 14$ nJy in the F125LP and F140LP filters (pivot wavelengths 1438 and 1528 Å). Using the FUV data together with previously obtained optical-UV data, we conclude that the optical-FUV spectrum consists of two components -- a nonthermal (presumably magnetospheric) power-law spectrum ($f_ν\propto ν^α$) with slope $α\sim -1.2$ and a thermal spectrum emitted from the bu…
We analyzed a deep {\it XMM-Newton} observation of the radio-quiet $γ$-ray PSR J2055+2539. The spectrum of the X-ray counterpart is non-thermal, with a photon index of $Γ$=2.36$\pm$0.14 (1$σ$ confidence). We detected X-ray pulsations with a pulsed fraction of (25$\pm$3)\% and a sinusoidal shape. Taking into account considerations on the $γ$-ray efficiency of the pulsar and on its X-ray spectrum, we can infer a pulsar distance ranging from 450 pc to 750 pc. We found two different nebular features associated to PSR J2055+2539 and protruding from it. The angle between the two nebular main axes is…
We report 4 new pulsars discovered in the core-collapsed globular cluster (GC) NGC 6624 by the TRAPUM Large Survey Project with the MeerKAT telescope. All of the new pulsars found are isolated. PSR J1823$-$3021I and PSR J1823$-$3021K are millisecond pulsars with period of respectively 4.319 ms and 2.768 ms. PSR J1823$-$3021J is mildly recycled with a period of 20.899 ms, and PSR J1823$-$3022 is a long period pulsar with a period of 2.497 s. The pulsars J1823$-$3021I, J1823$-$3021J, and J1823$-$3021K have position and dispersion measure (DM) compatible with being members of the GC and are there…
We present 35 ks Chandra ACIS observations of the 42 Myr old radio pulsar PSR B1451-68. A point source is detected 0.32" +/- 0.73" from the expected radio pulsar position. It has ~200 counts in the 0.3-8 keV energy range. We identify this point source as the X-ray counterpart of the radio pulsar. PSR B1451-68 is located close to a 2MASS point source, for which we derive 7% as the upper limit on the flux contribution to the measured pulsar X-ray flux. The pulsar spectrum can be described by either a power-law model with photon index Gamma=2.4 (+0.4/-0.3) and a unrealistically high absorbing col…
We report the discovery of two new millisecond pulsars (PSRs J0024$-$7204aa and J0024$-$7204ab) in the globular cluster 47\,Tucanae (NGC 104). Our results bring the total number of pulsars in 47\,Tucanae to 25. These pulsars were discovered by reprocessing archival observations from the Parkes radio telescope. We reprocessed the data using a standard search procedure based on the PRESTO software package as well as using a new method in which we incoherently added the power spectra corresponding to $\sim$1100\,hr of observations. The newly discovered PSR~J0024$-$7204aa, has a pulse frequency of…
We report non-detections of the $\sim 3\times 10^8$ yr old, slow, isolated, rotation-powered pulsar PSR J2144$-$3933 in observations with the Hubble Space Telescope in one optical band (F475X) and two far-ultraviolet bands (F125LP and F140LP), yielding upper bounds $F_{\rm F475X}< 22.7$ nJy, $F_{\rm F125LP}< 5.9$ nJy, $F_{\rm F140LP}< 19.5$ nJy, at the pivot wavelengths 4940 Å, 1438 Å and 1528 Å, respectively. Assuming a blackbody spectrum, we deduce a conservative upper bound on the surface (unredshifted) temperature of the pulsar of $T<42,000$ K. This makes PSR~J2144--3933 the coldest known …
We present results of optical-UV observations of the 200 Myr old rotation-powered radio pulsar J0108$-$1431 with the Hubble Space Telescope. We found a putative candidate for the far-UV (FUV) pulsar counterpart, with the flux density $f_ν= 9.0\pm 3.2$ nJy at $λ= 1528$ Å. The pulsar was not detected, however, at longer wavelengths, with $3σ$ upper limits of 52, 37, and 87 nJy at $λ=$ 4326, 3355, and 2366 Å, respectively. Assuming that the pulsar counterpart was indeed detected in FUV, and the previously reported marginal $U$ and $B$ detections with the Very Large Telescope were real, the optica…
We present a new X-ray study of NGC188, one of the oldest open clusters known in our Galaxy (7 Gyr). Our observation with the Chandra X-ray Observatory is aimed at uncovering the population of close interacting binaries in NGC188. We detect 84 sources down to a luminosity of Lx ~ 4e29 erg/s (0.3-7 keV), of which 73 are within the half-mass radius rh. Of the 60 sources inside rh with more than 5 counts, we estimate that ~38 are background sources. We detected 55 new sources, and confirmed 29 sources previously detected by ROSAT and/or XMM-Newton. A total of 13 sources detected are cluster membe…
We report on the first X-ray observation of the 0.28 s isolated radio pulsar PSR J1154--6250 obtained with the XMM-Newton observatory in February 2018. A point-like source is firmly detected at a position consistent with that of PSR J1154--6250. The two closest stars are outside the 3$σ$ confidence limits of the source position and thus unlikely to be responsible for the observed X-ray emission. The energy spectrum of the source can be fitted equally well either with an absorbed power-law with a steep photon index $Γ\approx 3.3$ or with an absorbed blackbody with temperature $kT=0.21\pm 0.04$~…
We construct a relativistic model for the newly discovered millisecond pulsar PSR J0514 - 4002A located in the globular cluster NGC 1851 (A. Ridolfi, P.C.C. Freire, Y. Gupta, S.M. Ransom, MNRAS 490, 3860 (2019)) by using Tolman VII spacetime. We have obtained central density ($ρ_{0}$), central pressure ($p_{0}$), probable radius, compactness ($u$) and surface redshift ($Z_{s}$) of the above mentioned newly discovered millisecond pulsar, which is very much consistent with reported data. Equation of State (EoS) of the millisecond pulsar has comes out as stiff in nature which is physically accept…
We present the first X-ray study of NGC6791, one of the oldest open clusters known (8 Gyr). Our Chandra observation is aimed at uncovering the population of close interacting binaries down to Lx ~ 1e30 erg/s (0.3-7 keV). We detect 86 sources within 8 arcmin of the cluster center, including 59 inside the half-mass radius. We identify twenty sources with proper-motion cluster members, which are a mix of cataclysmic variables (CVs), active binaries (ABs), and binaries containing sub-subgiants. With follow-up optical spectroscopy we confirm the nature of one CV. We discover one new, X-ray variable…
We report the discovery of 13 new pulsars in the globular cluster NGC 1851 by the TRAPUM Large Survey Project using the MeerKAT radio telescope. The discoveries consist of six isolated millisecond pulsars (MSPs) and seven binary pulsars, of which six are MSPs and one is mildly recycled. For all the pulsars, we present the basic kinematic, astrometric, and orbital parameters, where applicable, as well as their polarimetric properties, when these are measurable. Two of the binary MSPs (PSR J0514-4002D and PSR J0514-4002E) are in wide and extremely eccentric (e > 0.7) orbits with a heavy white dw…
Observations of the Galactic Plane performed by the H.E.S.S. telescope array have revealed a significant excess at very-high-energies (VHE; E>0.1 TeV) from the direction of PSR J1459-60, a rather old gamma-ray pulsar (64 kyr) with a spindown energy of ~10^36 erg/s, discovered by the Fermi/LAT satellite in high-energy (HE) gamma-rays. The X-ray pulsar counterpart has been recently detected using the Suzaku satellite. In this contribution, we present the discovery of a new VHE gamma-ray source, including morphological and spectral analyses. Its association with the gamma-ray pulsar in a PWN scen…
The Cygnus\,OB2 region, $\sim 3.5-5~\text{Myr}$ old, contains one of the most significant populations of massive stars of the Milky Way. Such stars substantially contribute to producing large scale soft ($<2~\text{keV}$) diffuse X-ray emission. We also detected hard ($>3~\text{keV}$) diffuse X-ray emission in the direction of the pulsar PSR\,J2032+4127. The torus-shaped emission spans a $\approx 3'\times 2'$ jet-like structure. It is spatially coincident with the Fermi $γ$-ray source 4FGL\,J2032.3+4127. We suggest that the hard diffuse X-ray emission is the pulsar wind nebula bearing the pulsa…
A largely extended X-ray emission was discovered around the pulsar PSR J1357-6429 with the Suzaku deep observations. The pulsar, whose characteristic age is 7.3 kyr, is located within the TeV gamma-ray source HESS J1356-645. The extended emission is found to have a 1sigma X-ray size of ~4 arcmin, or ~3 pc at 2.4 kpc, with a small offset from the pulsar. Its X-ray spectrum is well reproduced by a simple power-law model with a photon index of 1.70+0.07-0.06. No significant spatial variation was found for the X-ray photon index as a function of distance from the pulsar. We conclude that the exten…
An analysis of arrival directions of extensive air showers (EAS) registered with the EAS MSU and EAS-1000 prototype arrays has revealed a region of excessive flux of PeV cosmic rays in the direction toward pulsars PSR J1840+5640 and LAT PSR J1836+5925 at significance level up to 4.5sigma. The first of the pulsars was discovered almost 30 years ago and is a well-studied old radio pulsar located at the distance of 1.7pc from the Solar system. The second pulsar belongs to a new type of pulsars, discovered by the space gamma-ray observatory Fermi, pulsations of which are not observed in optical an…

We present the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope discovery of the highly eccentric binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1835$-$3259A in the Fermi Large Area Telescope-detected globular cluster NGC 6652. Timing over one orbit yields the pulse period 3.89 ms, orbital period 9.25 d, eccentricity $\sim 0.95$, and an unusually high companion mass of $0.74\,M_{\odot}$ assuming a $1.4\,M_{\odot}$ pulsar. We caution that the lack of data near periastron prevents a precise measurement of the eccentricity, and that further timing is necessary to constrain this and the other orbital parameters. From tidal co…
We report on the timing properties of the `Crab twin' pulsar PSR~B0540$-$69 measured with X-ray data taken with the Swift telescope over a period of 1100\,days. The braking index of the pulsar was estimated to be $n = 0.03\pm0.013$ in a previous study performed in 2015 with 500-day Swift data. This small value of $n$ is unusual for pulsars, and a comparison to old measurements of $n\approx2.1$ for the same target determined $\sim$10 years ago suggests a dramatic change in the braking index. To confirm the small value and large change of $n$, we used 1100-day Swift observations including the da…
We present the results of deep optical imaging of the radio/$γ$-ray pulsar PSR J2043+2740, obtained with the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT). With a characteristic age of 1.2 Myr, PSR J2043+2740 is one of the oldest (non recycled) pulsars detected in $γ$-rays, although with still a quite high rotational energy reservoir ($\dot{E}_{\rm rot} = 5.6 \times 10^{34}$ erg s$^{-1}$). The presumably close distance (a few hundred pc), suggested by the hydrogen column density ($N_{\rm H} \lesssim 3.6 \times 10^{20}$ cm$^{-2}$), would make it a viable target for deep optical observations, never attempted …
A recent measurement of the proper motion of PSR J0908-4913 shows that it is a fast moving object at a distance of some 3 kpc. Here we present evidence that the pulsar is located at the edge of a previously unknown, filled-centre supernova remnant, G270.4-1.0. The velocity vector of the pulsar points directly away from the centre of the remnant. The putative association of the pulsar with SNR G270.4-1.0 implies the pulsar is ~12kyr old, significantly less than its characteristic age of 110kyr. We show that the rotation axis of the pulsar points in the direction of the proper motion. Rotation m…
We present an analysis of the host-galaxy environment of Swope Supernova Survey 2017a (SSS17a), the discovery of an electromagnetic counterpart to a gravitational wave source, GW170817. SSS17a occurred 1.9 kpc (in projection; 10.2") from the nucleus of NGC 4993, an S0 galaxy at a distance of 40 Mpc. We present a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) pre-trigger image of NGC 4993, Magellan optical spectroscopy of the nucleus of NGC 4993 and the location of SSS17a, and broad-band UV through IR photometry of NGC 4993. The spectrum and broad-band spectral-energy distribution indicate that NGC 4993 has a st…
Globular clusters contain a unique pulsar population, with many exotic systems that can form only in their dense stellar environments. The leap in sensitivity of the upgraded Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (uGMRT) in India, especially at low radio frequencies ($<$ 1 GHz) has motivated a new search for radio pulsars in a group of eight Southern globular clusters. We discovered PSR J1835$-$3259B, a 1.83-ms pulsar in NGC 6652; this is in a near-circular wide orbit of 28.7 hr with a low-mass ($ \sim 0.2 \, M_{\rm \odot}$) companion, likely a Helium white dwarf. We derived a 10-year timing solutio…
