Abridged: Very Low Luminosity Objects (VeLLOs) are deeply embedded, and extremely faint objects and are thought to be in the quiescent phase of the episodic accretion process. They fill an important gap in our understanding of star formation. The VeLLO in the isolated DC3272+18 cloud has undergone an outburst, and is thus an ideal target for investigating the chemical inventory in the gas phase of an object of its type. Observations with the Atacama Pathfinder EXperiment (APEX) in four spectral windows in the frequency range of 213.6--272.4~GHz have been carried out to identify molecules that can be directly linked to the past outburst, utilize the line fluxes, column densities, and the abundance ratios of the detected species to characterize the different physical components of the VeLLO, and probe for the presence of complex organic molecules. Nitric oxide (NO) is detected for the first time in a source of this type, and its formation could be induced by the sublimation of grain-surface species during the outburst. A pathway to form NO directly in the gas phase is from the photodissociation products created after the sublimation of H$_2$O and NH$_3$ from the ices. While the present time water snowline has likely retreated to pre-outburst small radius, the volatile NO species is still extensively present in the gas phase, as evident by its high column density relative to methanol in the observations. This suggests that NO could be potentially used to trace the water snowline in outbursting sources. In order to rule out non-thermal desorption processes that could also have led to the formation of NO, this proposition has to be verified with future observations at higher spatial resolution, and by searching for NO in additional targets.
AG Draconis is a strongly interacting binary system which manifests characteristic symbiotic activity of alternating quiescent and active stages. The latter ones consist of the series of individual outbursts repeating at about a one-year interval. After seven years of flat quiescence following the 2006-2008 major outbursts, in the late spring of 2015, the symbiotic system AG Dra started to become brighter again toward what appeared to be a new minor outburst. The current outburst activity of AG Dra was confirmed by the following three outbursts in April 2016, May 2017 and April 2018. The photo…
FU Orionis-type objects (FUors) are young low-mass stars undergoing powerful accretion outbursts. The increased accretion is often accompanied by collimated jets and energetic, large-scale molecular outflows. The extra heating during the outburst may also induce detectable geometrical, chemical, and mineralogical changes in the circumstellar material, affecting possible planet formation around these objects. V346 Nor is a southern FUor with peculiar spectral characteristics. Decades after the beginning of its outburst, it unexpectedly underwent a fading event around 2010 due to a decrease in t…
We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of a peculiar variable (designated DASCH J075731.1+201735 or J0757) discovered from our DASCH project using the digitized Harvard College Observatory archival photographic plates. It brightened by about 1.5 magnitudes in B within a year starting in 1942, and then slowly faded back to its pre-outburst brightness from 1943 to the 1950s. The mean brightness level was stable before and after the outburst, and ellipsoidal variations with a period of $P=119.18\pm0.07$ days are seen, suggesting that the star is tidally distorted. Radial-velocity m…
We present a detailed study of V899 Mon (a new member in the FUors/EXors family of young low-mass stars undergoing outburst), based on our long-term monitoring of the source starting from November 2009 to April 2015. Our optical and near-infrared photometric and spectroscopic monitoring recorded the source transitioning from its first outburst to a short duration quiescence phase ($<$ 1 year), and then returning to a second outburst. We report here the evolution of the outflows from inner region of the disk as the accretion rate evolved in various epochs. Our high resolution (R$\sim$37000) opt…
V899 Mon is an eruptive young star showing characteristics of both FUors and EXors. It reached a peak brightness in 2010, then briefly faded in 2011, followed by a second outburst. We conducted multi-filter optical photometric monitoring, as well as optical and near-infrared spectroscopic observations of V899 Mon. The light curves and color-magnitude diagrams show that V899 Mon has been gradually fading after its second outburst peak in 2018, but smaller accretion bursts are still happening. Our spectroscopic observations taken with Gemini/IGRINS and VLT/MUSE show a number of emission lines, u…
We report on multi-wavelength observations during quiescence and of the first detected outburst of the ~60 min orbital period AM CVn SDSS J113732+405458. Using X-ray and UV observations we determined an upper limit duration of the event of about one year. The amplitude of the outburst was remarkably small, of around one magnitude in r and 0.5 magnitudes in g. We have also investigated the color variations of SDSS J113732+405458 and other long period AM CVns in outbursts and identified a track on the color-magnitude diagram that is not compatible with the predictions of the disk instability mod…
The hard X-ray source IGR J11215-5952 is a peculiar transient, displaying very short X-ray outbursts every 165 days. We obtained high-resolution spectra of the optical counterpart, HD 306414, at different epochs, spanning a total of three months, before and around the 2007 February outburst with the combined aims of deriving its astrophysical parameters and searching for orbital modulation. We fit model atmospheres generated with the fastwind code to the spectrum. We also cross-correlated each individual spectrum to the best-fit model to derive radial velocities. From its spectral features, we…
There are several peculiar long-period dwarf-nova like objects, which show rare, low-amplitude outbursts with highly ionized emission lines. 1SWASP J162117$+$441254, BD Pav, and V364 Lib belong to this kind of objects. Some researchers even doubt whether 1SWASP J1621 and V364 Lib have the same nature as normal dwarf novae. We studied the peculiar outbursts in these three objects via our optical photometry and spectroscopy, and performed numerical modeling of their orbital variations to investigate their properties. We found that their outbursts lasted for a long interval (a few tens of days), …
\rm Observations of close binary system (CBS) V1357 Cyg=Cyg X-1 in the $WBVR$ bands are reported. Photometry was carried out at the telescopes located in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Crimea equipped with single-channel $WBVR$-photometer with photon counting. 1358 individual observations in $WBVR$ bands on 202 nights were obtained. The analysis of the photometric data allows to conclude that different photometric effects are superimposed on the orbital light curve of the system. Among them are brightness declines, outbursts with different duration and amplitude, chaotic variability, which sometim…
In this paper we discuss the formation of peculiar narrow emission line components observed in the spectra of a few novae. We aim to identify the physical source responsible for transient narrow components that present orbital radial velocity modulations, first observed in the post-outburst recombination lines of Nova U Sco 2010. A search for candidate novae showing similar narrow components is presented. Photoionization simulations indicate that the forming region cannot be restricted to the primary Roche Lobe, but could be located around the outer Lagrangian point L3. Further analysis disfav…
The short period variable star MG1-688432 has been discovered to exhibit occasional extremely high energy optical outbursts as high as 10^31 joules. Outbursts are typically of several hours duration. These events are often highly structured, resembling sequential associated releases of energy. Twenty years of time sequence photometry is presented, indicating a basic sinusoidal light curve of mean period 6.65d, with some phase shifting and long-term temporal trends in amplitude and mean brightness. Spectroscopy reveals a peculiar star, best resembling a K3 subgiant that has evolved off the main…
We present optical spectroscopy, ultraviolet to infrared imaging and X-ray observations of the intermediate luminosity optical transient (ILOT) SN 2010da in NGC 300 (d=1.86 Mpc) spanning from -6 to +6 years relative to the time of outburst in 2010. Based on the light curve and multi-epoch SEDs of SN 2010da, we conclude that the progenitor of SN 2010da is a ~10-12 Msol yellow supergiant possibly transitioning into a blue loop phase. During outburst, SN 2010da had a peak absolute magnitude of M<-10.4 mag, dimmer than other ILOTs and supernova impostors. We detect multi-component hydrogen Balmer,…
We present preliminary results of long-term monitoring of the peculiar cataclysmic variable FS Aurigae conducted during the 2010-2011 observational season. The multicolor observations revealed, for the first time in photometric data, the precession period of the white dwarf, previously seen only spectroscopically. This is best seen in the (B-I) color index and reflects the spectral energy distribution variability. Analysis of X-ray observations made with Chandra and Swift, also revealed the existence of both the orbital and precession periods in the light curve. We also show that the long-term…
A CCD photometry of the dwarf nova MASTER OT J172758.09 +380021.5 was carried out in 2019 during 134 nights. Observations covered three superoutbursts, five normal outbursts and quiescence between them. The available ASASSN and ZTF data for 2014-2020 were also examined. Spectral observations were done in 2020 when the object was in quiescence. Spectra and photometry revealed that the star is an H-rich active ER UMa-type dwarf nova with a highly variable supercycle of ~50-100 d that implies a high and variable mass-transfer rate. This object demonstrated peculiar behaviour: short-lasted superou…

We present the analysis of existing optical photometry and new optical spectroscopy of the candidate cataclysmic variable star OGLE-BLG504.12.201843. As was shown previously, this object has an orbital period of 0.523419 days and exhibits year-long outbursts with a mean period of 973 days. Using digitized photographic archives, we show that the earliest recorded outburst occurred in 1910. We propose that this object is a U Gem-type dwarf nova with extreme properties. The orbital variability of the system in outburst shows clear signs of an accretion disc, from which the outburst likely origina…
For a long time XMMU J010331.7-730144 was proposed as a high-mass X-ray binary candidate based on its X-ray properties, however, its optical behaviour was unclear - in particular previous observations did not reveal key Balmer emission lines. In this paper we report on optical and X-ray variability of the system. XMMU J010331.7-730144 has been monitored with the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) in the I and V-bands for the past 9 years where it has shown extremely large amplitude outbursts separated by long periods of low-level flux. During its most recent optical outburst we ob…
We present optical and infrared spectroscopy of V1309 Sco, an object that erupted in 2008 in a stellar-merger event. During the outburst, V1309 Sco displayed characteristics typical of red transients, a class of objects similar to V838 Mon. Our observations were obtained in 2009 and 2012, i.e. months and years after the eruption of V1309 Sco, and illustrate severe changes in the remnant, mainly in its circumstellar surroundings. In addition to atomic gas observed in earlier epochs, we identified molecular bands of TiO, VO, H$_2$O, ScO, AlO, and CrO. The infrared bands of CrO we analyse are the…
The bipolar collimated outflows of the Hb4 Planetary Nebula (PN) exhibit an evident decrease in their expansion velocity with respect to the distance from the central star. So far, similar velocity law has also been found in Herbig-Haro objects. The interpretation of this peculiar velocity law and the classification of the outflows is the main focal point of this paper. High dispersion long-slit echelle spectra along with high resolution images from Hubble Space Telescope (HST) are applied in the astronomical code SHAPE in order to reproduce a three-dimensional morpho-kinematical model for the…
SN2011ht has been described both as a true supernova and as an impostor. In this paper, we conclude that it does not match some basic expectations for a core-collapse event. We discuss SN2011ht's spectral evolution from a hot dense wind to a cool dense wind, followed by the post-plateau appearance of a faster low density wind during a rapid decline in luminosity. We identify a slow dense wind expanding at only 500--600 km/s, present throughout the eruption. A faster wind speed V ~ 900 km/s may be identified with a second phase of the outburst. There is no direct or significant evidence for any…
Aims. Accretion and luminosity bursts triggered by three distinct mechanisms: the magnetorotational instability in the inner disk regions, clump infall in gravitationally fragmented disks and close encounters with an intruder star, were studied to determine the disk kinematic characteristics that can help to distinguish between these burst mechanisms. Methods. Numerical hydrodynamics simulations in the thin-disk limit were employed to model the bursts in disk environments that are expected for each burst mechanism. Results. We found that the circumstellar disks featuring accretion bursts can b…
We present an analysis of archival Spitzer InfraRed Spectrograph (IRS) observations of the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi obtained on several occasions, beginning about 7 months after the outburst in 2006. These data show atomic emission lines, absorption bands due to photospheric SiO, and the well known silicate dust features at $9.7\,μ$m and $18\,μ$m. The dust emission, arising in the wind of the secondary star, is fitted by Dusty models for mass-loss rates in the range $1.0-1.7\times10^{-7}$M$_{\odot}$yr$^{-1}$. The silicate features are similar in profile to those seen in circumstellar environ…
BD+6073 is the optical counterpart of the X-ray source IGR J00370+6122, a probable accretion-powered X-ray pulsar. The X-ray light curve of this binary system shows clear periodicity at 15.7 d, which has been interpreted as repeated outbursts around the periastron of an eccentric orbit. We obtained high-resolution spectra of BD+6073 at different epochs. We used the FASTWind code to generate a stellar atmosphere model to fit the observed spectrum and obtain physical magnitudes. The synthetic spectrum was used as a template for cross-correlation with the observed spectra to measure radial veloci…
Massive evolved stars in transition phases, such as Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs), B[e] Supergiants (B[e]SGs), and Yellow Hypergiants (YHGs), are not well understood, and yet crucial steps in determining accurate stellar and galactic evolution models. The circumstellar environments of these stars reveal their mass-loss history, identifying clues to both their individual evolutionary status and the connection between objects of different phases. Here we present a survey of 25 such evolved massive stars (16 B[e]SGs, 6 LBVs, 2 YHGs, and 1 Peculiar Oe star), observed in the K-band with the Spectr…
AA Tau, a classical T Tauri star in the Taurus cloud, has been the subject of intensive photometric monitoring for more than two decades due to its quasi-cyclic variation in optical brightness. Beginning in 2011, AA Tau showed another peculiar variation -- its median optical though near-IR flux dimmed significantly, a drop consistent with a 4-mag increase in visual extinction. It has stayed in the faint state since. Here we present 4.7um CO rovibrational spectra of AA Tau over eight epochs, covering an eleven-year time span, that reveal enhanced 12CO and 13CO absorption features in the $J_{\rm …
