Tracking by detection has been the prevailing paradigm in the field of Multi-object Tracking (MOT). These methods typically rely on the Kalman Filter to estimate the future locations of objects, assuming linear object motion. However, they fall short when tracking objects exhibiting nonlinear and diverse motion in scenarios like dancing and sports. In addition, there has been limited focus on utilizing learning-based motion predictors in MOT. To address these challenges, we resort to exploring data-driven motion prediction methods. Inspired by the great expectation of state space models (SSMs), such as Mamba, in long-term sequence modeling with near-linear complexity, we introduce a Mamba-based motion model named Mamba moTion Predictor (MTP). MTP is designed to model the complex motion patterns of objects like dancers and athletes. Specifically, MTP takes the spatial-temporal location dynamics of objects as input, captures the motion pattern using a bi-Mamba encoding layer, and predicts the next motion. In real-world scenarios, objects may be missed due to occlusion or motion blur, leading to premature termination of their trajectories. To tackle this challenge, we further expand the application of MTP. We employ it in an autoregressive way to compensate for missing observations by utilizing its own predictions as inputs, thereby contributing to more consistent trajectories. Our proposed tracker, MambaTrack, demonstrates advanced performance on benchmarks such as Dancetrack and SportsMOT, which are characterized by complex motion and severe occlusion.

This paper presents our solution to ACM MM challenge: Large-scale Human-centric Video Analysis in Complex Events\cite{lin2020human}; specifically, here we focus on Track3: Crowd Pose Tracking in Complex Events. Remarkable progress has been made in multi-pose training in recent years. However, how to track the human pose in crowded and complex environments has not been well addressed. We formulate the problem as several subproblems to be solved. First, we use a multi-object tracking method to assign human ID to each bounding box generated by the detection model. After that, a pose is generated …

Recent tracking-by-detection approaches use deep object detectors as target detection baseline, because of their high performance on still images. For effective video object tracking, object detection is integrated with a data association step performed by either a custom design inference architecture or an end-to-end joint training for tracking purpose. In this work, we adopt the former approach and use the pre-trained Mask R-CNN deep object detector as the baseline. We introduce a novel inference architecture placed on top of FPN-ResNet101 backbone of Mask R-CNN to jointly perform detection …

As a crucial robotic perception capability, visual tracking has been intensively studied recently. In the real-world scenarios, the onboard processing time of the image streams inevitably leads to a discrepancy between the tracking results and the real-world states. However, existing visual tracking benchmarks commonly run the trackers offline and ignore such latency in the evaluation. In this work, we aim to deal with a more realistic problem of latency-aware tracking. The state-of-the-art trackers are evaluated in the aerial scenarios with new metrics jointly assessing the tracking accuracy …

Target tracking, the essential ability of the human visual system, has been simulated by computer vision tasks. However, existing trackers perform well in austere experimental environments but fail in challenges like occlusion and fast motion. The massive gap indicates that researches only measure tracking performance rather than intelligence. How to scientifically judge the intelligence level of trackers? Distinct from decision-making problems, lacking three requirements (a challenging task, a fair environment, and a scientific evaluation procedure) makes it strenuous to answer the question. …

Siamese tracking has achieved groundbreaking performance in recent years, where the essence is the efficient matching operator cross-correlation and its variants. Besides the remarkable success, it is important to note that the heuristic matching network design relies heavily on expert experience. Moreover, we experimentally find that one sole matching operator is difficult to guarantee stable tracking in all challenging environments. Thus, in this work, we introduce six novel matching operators from the perspective of feature fusion instead of explicit similarity learning, namely Concatenatio…

Siamese trackers are shown to be vulnerable to adversarial attacks recently. However, the existing attack methods craft the perturbations for each video independently, which comes at a non-negligible computational cost. In this paper, we show the existence of universal perturbations that can enable the targeted attack, e.g., forcing a tracker to follow the ground-truth trajectory with specified offsets, to be video-agnostic and free from inference in a network. Specifically, we attack a tracker by adding a universal imperceptible perturbation to the template image and adding a fake target, i.e…

With the recent advances in the object detection research field, tracking-by-detection has become the leading paradigm adopted by multi-object tracking algorithms. By extracting different features from detected objects, those algorithms can estimate the objects' similarities and association patterns along successive frames. However, since similarity functions applied by tracking algorithms are handcrafted, it is difficult to employ them in new contexts. In this study, it is investigated the use of artificial neural networks to learning a similarity function that can be used among detections. D…

We present a novel transformer-based architecture for global multi-object tracking. Our network takes a short sequence of frames as input and produces global trajectories for all objects. The core component is a global tracking transformer that operates on objects from all frames in the sequence. The transformer encodes object features from all frames, and uses trajectory queries to group them into trajectories. The trajectory queries are object features from a single frame and naturally produce unique trajectories. Our global tracking transformer does not require intermediate pairwise groupin…

Tracking and detecting any object, including ones never-seen-before during model training, is a crucial but elusive capability of autonomous systems. An autonomous agent that is blind to never-seen-before objects poses a safety hazard when operating in the real world - and yet this is how almost all current systems work. One of the main obstacles towards advancing tracking any object is that this task is notoriously difficult to evaluate. A benchmark that would allow us to perform an apples-to-apples comparison of existing efforts is a crucial first step towards advancing this important resear…
Active visual tracking of space non-cooperative object is significant for future intelligent spacecraft to realise space debris removal, asteroid exploration, autonomous rendezvous and docking. To this end, we propose an end-to-end active visual tracking method based on DQN algorithm, named as DRLAVT. It can guide the chasing spacecraft approach…

We address object tracking by radar and the robustness of the current state-of-the-art methods to process outliers. The standard tracking algorithms extract detections from radar image space to use it in the filtering stage. Filtering is performed by a Kalman filter, which assumes Gaussian distributed noise. However, this assumption does not account for large modeling errors and results in poor tracking performance during abrupt motions. We take the Gaussian Sum Filter (single-object variant of the Multi Hypothesis Tracker) as our baseline and propose a modification by modelling process noise …

However, it imposes a great challenge to perform online learning for such a unified model. A segmentation model cannot easily learn from prior information given in the visual tracking scenario.
