The central regions of the Milky Way constitute a unique laboratory for a wide swath of astrophysical studies, consequently the inner $\sim$400 pc has been the target of numerous large surveys at all accessible wavelengths. In this paper we present a catalog of sources at 25 and 37 $μ$m located within all of the regions observed with the SOFIA/FORCAST instrument in the inner $\sim$200 pc of the Galaxy. The majority of the observations were obtained as part of the SOFIA Cycle 7 Galactic Center Legacy program survey, which was designed to complement the Spitzer/MIPS 24 $μ$m catalog in regions saturated in the MIPS observations. Due to the wide variety of source types captured by our observations at 25 and 37 $μ$m, we do not limit the FORCAST source catalog to unresolved point sources, or treat all sources as if they are point-like sources. The catalog includes all detectable sources in the regions, resulting in a catalog of 950 sources, including point sources, compact sources, and extended sources. We also provide the user with metrics to discriminate between the source types.
We present arcsecond-scale observations of the active galactic nuclei (AGNs) of seven nearby Seyfert galaxies observed from the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) using the 31.5 and 37.1 um filters of the Faint Object infraRed CAmera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST). We isolate unresolved emission from the torus and find extended diffuse emission in six 37.1 um residual images in our sample. Using Spitzer/IRS spectra, we determine the dominant mid-infrared (MIR) extended emission source and attribute it to dust in the narrow line region (NLR) or star formation. We compar…
We present 31.5 micron imaging photometry of 11 nearby Seyfert galaxies observed from the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) using the Faint Object infraRed CAmera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST). We tentatively detect extended 31 micron emission for the first time in our sample. In combination with this new data set, subarcsecond resolution 1-18 micron imaging and 7.5-13 micron spectroscopic observations were used to compute the nuclear spectral energy distribution (SED) of each galaxy. We found that the turnover of the torus emission does not occur at wavelengths <31.…
We present a new SOFIA/FORCAST mid-IR survey of luminous protostars and crowded star-forming environments in Cygnus X, the nearest million-solar mass molecular cloud complex. We derive bolometric luminosities for over 1000 sources in the region with these new data in combination with extant Spitzer and UKIDSS photometry, with 63 new luminous protostar candidates identified by way of the high quality SOFIA/FORCAST data. By including FORCAST data, we construct protostellar luminosity functions (PLFs) with improved completeness at the high luminosity end. The PLFs are well described by a power la…
The Galactic Center contains some of the most extreme conditions for star formation in our Galaxy as well as many other phenomena that are unique to this region. Given our relative proximity to the Galactic Center, we are able to study details of physical processes to a level that is simply not yet possible for more distant galaxies, yielding an otherwise inaccessible view of the nuclear region of a galaxy. We recently carried out a targeted imaging survey of mid-infrared bright portions of the Galactic Center at 25 and 37 $μ$m using the FORCAST instrument on SOFIA. This survey was one of the …
With the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) routinely operating science flights, we demonstrate that observations with the Faint Object infraRed CAmera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST) can provide reliable estimates of the internal luminosities, $L_{\rm int}$, of protostars. We have developed a technique to estimate $L_{\rm int}$ using a pair of FORCAST filters: one "short-wavelength" filter centered within 19.7-25.3 $μ$m, and one "long-wavelength" filter within 31.5-37.1 $μ$m. These $L_{\rm int}$ estimates are reliable to within 30-40% for 67% of protostars and to withi…
Massive stellar clusters provide radiation ($\mathrm{\sim 10^7-10^8~L_{\odot}}$) and winds ($\mathrm{\sim 1000~km/s}$) that act to heat dust and shape their surrounding environment. In this paper, the Arched Filaments in the Galactic center were studied to better understand the influence of the Arches cluster on its nearby interstellar medium (ISM). The Arched Filaments were observed with the Faint Object InfraRed CAMera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST) at 19.7, 25.2, 31.5, and 37.1 $μ$m. Color-temperature maps of the region created with the 25.2 and 37.1 $μ$m data reveal relatively uniform d…
We present mid-infrared spectra from our continued monitoring of R Aquarii, the nearest symbiotic Mira, using the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). New photometric and spectroscipic data were obtained with the Faint Object infraRed CAmera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST) in 2018 and 2019 after the system had started its "eclipse", during which it became two magnitudes fainter in the visual. The mid-IR flux, in particular the 10 mu-m silicate feature, have strengthened compared with the previous cycles. Radiative transfer models for the circumstellar dust emission were …
We present 19.7, 31.5, and 37.1 μm images of the inner 6 pc of the Galactic Center of the Milky Way with a spatial resolution of 3.2 - 4.6'' taken by the Faint Object Infrared Camera on the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). The images reveal in detail the "clumpy" structure of the Circumnuclear Ring (CNR)--the torus of hot gas and dust orbiting the supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center with an inner radius of 1.4 pc. The CNR exhibits features of a classic HII region: the dust emission at 19.7 μm closely traces the ionized gas emission observed in the radio whil…
We present 75"x75" size maps of M82 at 6.4 micron, 6.6 micron, 7.7 micron, 31.5 micron, and 37.1 micron with a resolution of ~4" that we have obtained with the mid-IR camera FORCAST on SOFIA. We find strong emission from the inner 60" (~1kpc) along the major axis, with the main peak 5" west-southwest of the nucleus and a secondary peak 4" east-northeast of the nucleus. The detailed morphology of the emission differs among the bands, which is likely due to different dust components dominating the continuum emission at short mid-IR wavelengths and long mid-IR wavelengths. We include Spitzer-IRS …
Massive young stellar objects are known to undergo an evolutionary phase in which high mass accretion rates drive strong outflows. A class of objects believed to trace this phase accurately is the GLIMPSE Extended Green Object (EGO) sample, so named for the presence of extended 4.5 $μ$m emission on sizescales of $\sim$0.1 pc in \textit{Spitzer} images. We have been conducting a multi-wavelength examination of a sample of 12 EGOs with distances of 1 to 5 kpc. In this paper, we present mid-infrared images and photometry of these EGOs obtained with the SOFIA telescope, and subsequently construct …
We present new mid-infrared images of the central region of the Orion Nebula using the newly commissioned SOFIA airborne telescope and its 5 -- 40 micron camera FORCAST. The 37.1 micron images represent the highest resolution observations (<4") ever obtained of this region at these wavelengths. After BN/KL (which is described in a separate letter in this issue), the dominant source at all wavelengths except 37.1 micron is the Ney-Allen Nebula, a crescent-shaped extended source associated with theta 1D. The morphology of the Ney-Allen nebula in our images is consistent with the interpretation t…
Since their discovery, the Quintuplet proper members (QPMs) have been somewhat mysterious in nature. Originally dubbed the "cocoon stars" due to their cool featureless spectra, high-resolution near-infrared imaging observations have shown that at least two of the objects exhibit "pinwheel" nebulae consistent with binary systems with a carbon-rich Wolf-Rayet star and O/B companion. In this paper, we present 19.7, 25.2, 31.5, and 37.1 $μ$m observations of the QPMs (with an angular resolution of 3.2-3.8") taken with the Faint Object Infrared Camera for the SOFIA Telescope (FORCAST) in conjunction…
We present infrared observations of the ultra-compact H II region W3(OH) made by the FORCAST instrument aboard SOFIA and by Spitzer/IRAC. We contribute new wavelength data to the spectral energy distribution, which constrains the optical depth, grain size distribution, and temperature gradient of the dusty shell surrounding the H II region. We model the dust component as a spherical shell containing an inner cavity with radius ~ 600 AU, irradiated by a central star of type O9 and temperature ~ 31,000 K. The total luminosity of this system is 71,000 L_solar. An observed excess of 2.2 - 4.5 micr…
The massive star forming region W3 was observed with the faint object infrared camera for the SOFIA telescope (FORCAST) as part of the Short Science program. The 6.4, 6.6, 7.7, 19.7, 24.2, 31.5 and 37.1 \um bandpasses were used to observe the emission of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules, Very Small Grains and Big Grains. Optical depth and color temperature maps of W3A show that IRS2 has blown a bubble devoid of gas and dust of $\sim$0.05 pc radius. It is embedded in a dusty shell of ionized gas that contributes 40% of the total 24 \um emission of W3A. This dust component is most…

We have imaged the bipolar planetary nebula M2-9 using SOFIA's FORCAST instrument in six wavelength bands between 6.6 and 37.1 $μm$. A bright central point source, unresolved with SOFIA's $\sim$ 4${''}$-to-5${''}$ beam, is seen at each wavelength, and the extended bipolar lobes are clearly seen at 19.7 $μm$ and beyond. The photometry between 10 and 25 $μm$ is well fit by the emission predicted from a stratified disk seen at large inclination, as has been proposed for this source by Lykou et al and by Smith and Gehrz. The principal new results in this paper relate to the distribution and proper…
We discuss the first results from our mid-infrared imaging survey of Milky Way Giant HII regions with our detailed analysis of W51A, which is one of the largest GHII regions in our Galaxy. We used the FORCAST instrument on SOFIA to obtain 20 and 37$μ$m images of the central $10' \times 20'$ area, which encompasses both of the G49.5-0.4 and G49.4-0.3 sub-regions. Based on these new data, and in conjunction with previous multi-wavelength observations, we conjecture on the physical nature of several individual sources and sub-components within W51A. We find that extinction seems to play an import…
We present our second set of results from our mid-infrared imaging survey of Milky Way Giant HII regions. We used the FORCAST instrument on the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy to obtain 20 and 37$μ$m images of the central ~10'X10' area of M17. We investigate the small- and large-scale properties of M17 using our data in conjunction with previous multi-wavelength observations. The spectral energy distributions of individual compact sources were constructed with Spitzer-IRAC, SOFIA-FORCAST, and Herschel-PACS photometry data and fitted with massive young stellar object (MYSO) mod…
We present mid-infrared photometry of the Orion Bar obtained with FORCAST aboard SOFIA at 6.4, 6.6, 7.7, 19.7, 31.5 and 37.1 \um. By complementing this observations with archival FORCAST and \emph{Herschel}/PACS images we are able to construct a complete infrared spectral energy distribution of the Huygens region in the Orion nebula By comparing the infrared images with gas tracers, we find that PACS maps trace the molecular cloud, while the FORCAST data trace the photodissociation region (PDR) and HII region. Analysis of the energetics of the region reveal that the PDR extends for 0.28~pc alo…
This is the fourth paper exploring the infrared properties of giant HII regions with the FORCAST instrument on the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Our survey utilizes the census of 56 Milky Way giant HII regions identified by Conti & Crowther (2004), and in this paper we present the 20 and 37 micron imaging data we have obtained from SOFIA for sources Sgr D and W42. Based upon the SOFIA data and other multi-wavelength data, we derive and discuss the detailed physical properties of the individual compact sources and sub-regions as well as the large scale properties of …
We present our third set of results from our mid-infrared imaging survey of Milky Way Giant HII (GHII) regions with our detailed analysis of W49A, one of the most distant, yet most luminous, GHII regions in the Galaxy. We used the FORCAST instrument on the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) to obtain 20 and 37$μ$m images of the entire ~5.0' x 3.5' infrared-emitting area of W49A at a spatial resolution of ~3". Utilizing these SOFIA data in conjunction with previous multi-wavelength observations from the near-infrared to radio, including Spitzer-IRAC and Herschel-PACS archi…
We present multi-wavelength images observed with SOFIA-FORCAST from $\sim$10 to 40 $μ$m of seven high luminosity massive protostars, as part of the SOFIA Massive (SOMA) Star Formation Survey. Source morphologies at these wavelengths appear to be influenced by outflow cavities and extinction from dense gas surrounding the protostars. Using these images, we build spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of the protostars, also including archival data from Spitzer, Herschel and other facilities. Radiative transfer (RT) models of Zhang & Tan (2018), based on Turbulent Core Accretion theory, are then f…
MWC 297 is a young, early-type star driving an ionized outflow and surrounded by warm, entrained dust. Previous analyses of near- and mid-IR interferometric images suggest that the emission at these wavelengths arises from a compact accretion disk with a moderate ($i < 40$ degrees) inclination. We have obtained 5-40 micron images of MWC 297 with FORCAST on SOFIA, as well as near-infrared spectra acquired with SpeX on the IRTF and radio data obtained with the VLA and BIMA, and supplemented these with archival data from Herschel/PACS and SPIRE. The FORCAST images, combined with the VLA data, ind…
We introduce SoFiA, a flexible software application for the detection and parameterization of sources in 3D spectral-line datasets. SoFiA combines for the first time in a single piece of software a set of new source-finding and parameterization algorithms developed on the way to future HI surveys with ASKAP (WALLABY, DINGO) and APERTIF. It is designed to enable the general use of these new algorithms by the community on a broad range of datasets. The key advantages of SoFiA are the ability to: search for line emission on multiple scales to detect 3D sources in a complete and reliable way, taki…

The upcoming Square Kilometer Array (SKA) is expected to produce humongous amount of data for undertaking H{\sc i}~science. We have developed an MPI-based {\sc Python} pipeline to deal with the large data efficiently with the present computational resources. Our pipeline divides such large H{\sc i}~21-cm spectral cubes into several small cubelets, and then processes them in parallel using publicly available H{\sc i}~source finder {\sc SoFiA-$2$}. The pipeline also takes care of sources at the boundaries of the cubelets and also filters out false and redundant detections. By comapring with the …
Three Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs) are located in and near the Quintuplet Cluster at the Galactic Center: the Pistol star, G0.120-0.048, and qF362. We present imaging at 19, 25, 31, and 37 μm of the region containing these three LBVs, obtained with SOFIA using FORCAST. We argue that the Pistol and G0.120-0.048 are identical ``twins" that exhibit contrasting nebulae due to the external influence of their different environments. Our images reveal the asymmetric, compressed shell of hot dust surrounding the Pistol Star and provide the first detection of the thermal emission from the symmetric, …
(Abridged) A brief description of the methodology of construction, contents and usage of the Planck Early Release Compact Source Catalogue (ERCSC), including the Early Cold Cores (ECC) and the Early Sunyaev-Zeldovich (ESZ) cluster catalogue is provided. The catalogue is based on data that consist of mapping the entire sky once and 60% of the sky a second time by Planck, thereby comprising the first high sensitivity radio/submillimetre observations of the entire sky. A Monte-Carlo algorithm based on the injection and extraction of artificial sources into the Planck maps was implemented to selec…
