Scotogenic is a scheme for neutrino mass generation through the one-loop contribution of an inert scalar doublet and three sterile neutrinos. This work argues that such inert scalar doublet is a Goldstone boson mode associated with a gauge symmetry breaking. Hence, the resultant scotogenic gauge mechanism is very predictive, generating neutrino mass as contributed by a new gauge boson doublet that eats such Goldstone bosons. The dark matter stability is manifestly ensured by a matter parity as residual gauge symmetry for which a vector dark matter candidate is hinted.
We propose a flavour theory of leptons implementing an $A_4$ family symmetry. Our scheme provides a simple way to derive trimaximal neutrino mixing from first principles, leading to simple and testable predictions for neutrino mixing and CP violation. Dark matter mediates neutrino mass generation, as in the simplest scotogenic model.
The scotogenic model can simultaneously account for the presence of dark matter and the origin of neutrino masses. We assume that the flavor neutrino mass matrix has one zero element and Yukawa matrix elements are real in the scotogenic model. It turns out that only one pattern of the flavor neutrino mass matrix in the one-zero-texture scheme within the scotogenic model is viable with the observed neutrino oscillation data, the relic abundance of the dark matter, and the upper limit of the branching ratio of the $μ\rightarrow e γ$ process.
The scotogenic model of radiative neutrino mass with $Z_2$ or $U(1)_D$ dark matter is shown to accommodate $Δ(27)$ symmetry naturally. The resulting neutrino mass matrix is identical to either of two forms, one proposed in 2006, the other in 2008. These two structures are studied in the context of present neutrino data, with predictions of $CP$ violation and neutrinoless double beta decay.
We propose a simple extension of the standard model where neutrinos get naturally small "scotogenic" Dirac masses from an unbroken gauged $B-L$ symmetry, ensuring dark matter stability. The associated gauge boson gets mass through the Stueckelberg mechanism. Two scenarios are identified, and the resulting phenomenology briefly sketched.
Assuming that neutrinos acquire radiative seesaw Majorana masses through their interactions with dark matter, i.e. scotogenic from the Greek 'scotos' meaning darkness, and using the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_4$, we propose a model of neutrino masses and mixing with nonzero $θ_{13}$ and necessarily large leptonic CP violation, allowing both the normal and inverted hierarchies of neutrino masses, as well as quasi-degenerate solutions.
We propose a new realization of the one-loop radiative model of neutrino mass generated by dark matter (scotogenic), where the particles in the loop have an additional $U(1)_D$ gauge symmetry, which may be exact or broken to $Z_2$. This model is relevant to a number of astrophysical observations, including AMS-02 and the dark matter distribution in dwarf galactic halos.
A variation of the original 2006 radiative seesaw model of neutrino mass through dark matter is shown to realize the notion of inverse seesaw naturally. The dark-matter candidate here is the lightest of three real singlet scalars which may also carry flavor.
We propose the simplest TeV-scale scotogenic extension of the original 3-3-1 theory, where dark matter stability is linked to the Dirac nature of neutrinos, which results from an unbroken $B-L$ gauge symmetry. The new gauge bosons get masses through the interplay of spontaneous symmetry breaking à la Higgs and the Stueckelberg mechanism.
In the context of the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X \otimes U(1)_{N}}$ (3-3-1-1) extension of the standard model, we show how the spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry gives rise to a residual symmetry which accounts for dark matter stability and small neutrino masses in a scotogenic fashion. As a special feature, the gauge structure implies that one of the light neutrinos is massless and, as a result, there is a lower bound for the $0νββ$ decay rate.
The standard model of quarks and leptons is extended to include the gauge symmetry $U(1)_χ$ which comes from $SO(10) \to SU(5) \times U(1)_χ$. The radiative generation of Dirac neutrino masses through dark matter is discussed in two examples. One allows for light Dirac fermion dark matter. The other allows for self-interacting scalar dark matter with a light scalar mediator which decays only to two neutrinos.
The use of extra space-time dimensions provides a promising approach to the flavour problem. The chosen compactification of a 6-dimensional orbifold implies a remnant family symmetry $A_4$. This makes interesting predictions for quark and lepton masses, for neutrino oscillations and neutrinoless double beta decay, providing also a very good global description of all flavour observables. Due to an auxiliary $\mathbb{Z}_4$ symmetry, we implement a scotogenic Majorana neutrino mass generation mechanism with a viable WIMP dark matter candidate.
Radiative Dirac neutrino masses and their mixing are linked to dark matter through the non-Abelian discrete symmetry $A_5$ of the 4-dimensional pentatope, softly broken to $A_4$ of the 3-dimensional tetrahedron. This unifying understanding of neutrino family structure from dark matter is made possible through the interplay of gauge symmetry, renormalizable Lagrangian field theory, and softly broken discrete symmetries. Dark neutral fermions are produced through Higgs decay.
In both scotogenic neutrino and flavor dark matter models, the dark sector communicates with the standard model fermions via Yukawa portal couplings. We propose an economic scenario that scotogenic neutrino and flavored mediator share the same inert Higgs doublet and all are charged under a hidden gauged $U(1)$ symmetry. The dark Z2 symmetry in dark sector is regarded as the remnant of this hidden $U(1)$ symmetry breaking. In particular, we investigate a dark $U(1)_D$ (and also a $U(1)_{B-L}$) model which unifies scotogenic neutrino and top-flavored mediator. In this model dark tops and dark n…
The Scotogenic model is a radiative neutrino mass model able to induce Majorana neutrino masses at the 1-loop level and simultaneously include a dark matter candidate. In this work, we generalize the original Scotogenic model to arbitrary numbers of generations of the Scotogenic states. After that, we present the light neutrino mass matrix, with some details of its derivation, and provide a useful approximate expression as well. Finally, we numerically solve the Renormalization Group Equations to explore the high-energy behavior of the model.
Building up on previous work we propose a Dark Matter (DM) model with gauged matter parity and dynamical gauge coupling unification, driven by the same physics responsible for scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Our construction is based on the extended gauge group \3311, whose spontaneous breaking leaves a residual conserved matter parity, $M_{P}$, stabilizing the DM particle candidates of the model. A key role is played by the Majorana ${\rm SU(3)_{L}}$-octet leptons, in allowing successful gauge coupling unification and one-loop scotogenic neutrino mass generation. Theoretical consistency …
We propose a minimal extention of the Standard Model where neutrino masses are generated radiatively at one-loop level via Scotogenic scanario. The model is augmented with $A_4$ modular symmetry as a scotogenic and flavor symmetry. With minimal number of parameters, the model makes predictions for neutrino oscillation data, Majorana and Dirac phases, dark matter characteristics, and neutrinoless double beta decay.
In this letter, we propose an extension of the scotogenic model where singlet Majorana particle can be dark matter (DM) without the need of a highly suppressed scalar coupling of the order $O(10^{-10})$. For that, the SM is extended with three singlet Majorana fermions, an inert scalar doublet, and two (a complex and a real) singlet scalars, with a global $Z_{4}$ symmetry that is spontaneously broken into $Z_{2}$ at a scale higher than the electroweak one by the vev of the complex singlet scalar. In this setup, the smallness of neutrino mass is achieved via the cancellation between three diagr…
If the leptoquarks proposed to account for the intriguing anomalies observed in the $B$-meson decays, $R_{D^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{K^{(\ast)}}$, as well as in the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, $(g-2)_μ$, can be embedded into the scotogenic Dirac neutrino model, all these flavor anomalies, together with the origin of neutrino masses and the nature of dark matter, would be potentially addressed in a unified picture. Among the minimal seesaw, one-loop, and two-loop realizations of the dimension-4 effective operator $\mathcal{L}_{4}$ for the Dirac neutrino masses, we show that plenty of diagr…
We consider a model with three Higgs doublet in a discrete $B - L\times \mathbb{Z}_3$ discrete symmetries. Two of the scalar doublets are inert due to the $\mathbb{Z}_3$ symmetry. We calculated all the mass spectra in the scalar and lepton sectors and accommodate the leptonic mixing matrix as well.
Modular symmetries have been impeccable in neutrino and quark sectors. This motivated us, therefore, to propose a variant of scotogenic model based on modular $A_4$ symmetry to realize the neutrino mass generation at one-loop level through radiative mechanism. Alongside, the lepton flavour violating process $μ\to e γ$ and the muon $g-2$ anomaly are also addressed. The lightest Majorana fermions turn out to be potential dark matter candidates, made stable by suitable assignment of modular weights. The relic density of the same has been computed with annihilations mediated by inert scalars and n…
Non-zero neutrino mass and dark matter cast a shadow over the success of the Standard Model (SM) of Particle Physics. The most straightforward extension of the SM to explain these two phenomena is the Scotogenic model, where the SM particle spectrum extends with three isospin singlet right-handed neutrinos and one doublet scalar while all of these being odd under $Z_2$ symmetry. In this work, we have considered the lightest right-handed neutrino as the dark matter candidate and freeze-out mechanism for producing observed dark matter relic density. The observed dark matter relic density, neutri…
We construct a scotogenic neutrino mass model introducing large $SU(2)_L$ multiplet fields without adding an extra symmetry. We have introduced extra scalar fields such as a septet, quintet and quartet where we make the vacuum expectation value of quartet scalar to be zero while septet and quintet develop non-zero ones. Then the neutrino mass is generated at one-loop level by introducing quintet fermion. We analyze the neutrino mass matrix taking constraints from lepton flavor violation into account and discuss collider physics regarding charged fermions from large multiplet fields. We have an…
As the first topic, we propose a new parametrization of the complex Yukawa matrix in the scotogenic model. The new parametrization is compatible with the particle data group parametrization of the neutrino sector. Some analytical expressions for the neutrino masses with the new parametrization are shown. As the second topic, we consider the phenomenology of the socotogenic model with the one-zero-textures of the neutrino flavor mass matrix. One of the six patterns of the neutrino mass matrix is favorable for the real Yukawa matrix. On the other hand, for the complex Yukawa matrix, five of the …
We present radiative one-loop neutrino mass model with hypercharge zero scalar triplet in conjunction with another charged singlet scalar and an additional vectorlike lepton doublet. We study three variants of this mass model: the first one without additional beyond-SM symmetry, the second with imposed DM-stabilizing discrete Z_2 symmetry, and the third in which this Z_2 symmetry is promoted to the gauge symmetry U(1)_D. The two latter cases are scotogenic, with a neutral component of the scalar triplet as a dark matter candidate. In first scotogenic model the Z_2-odd dark matter candidate is …
In this paper, we propose a scotogenic model of neutrino masses with flavor-dependent $U(1)_{B-3L_α}(α=e, μ, τ)$ gauge symmetry, in which neutrinos are generated at one-loop level and a fermion dark matter is naturally accommodated. In this model, three one-zero-texture structures of neutrino mass matrix, denoted as patterns A, B and C, are successfully realized by appropriate charge assignment for inert fermions and scalar fields. For each predicted textures, a detailed numerical analysis is carried out to find the allowed regions of neutrino mixing and masses. We find three scenarios (A for …
Scotogenic models are among the most popular possibilities to link dark matter and neutrino masses. In this work we discuss a variant of the Scotogenic model that includes charged fermions and a doublet with hypercharge $3/2$. Neutrino masses are induced at the one-loop level thanks to the states belonging to the dark sector. However, in contrast to the standard Scotogenic model, only the scalar dark matter candidate is viable in this version. After presenting the model and explaining some particularities about neutrino mass generation, we concentrate on its dark matter phenomenology. We show …
Realistic neutrino mixing is achieved at one-loop level radiatively using $S3\times Z_2$ symmetry. The model comprises of two right-handed neutrinos, maximally mixed to produce the structure of the left-handed Majorana neutrino mass matrix characterized by $θ_{13}=0$, $θ_{23}=π/4$ and any value of $θ_{12}^0$ particular to the Tribimaximal (TBM), Bimaximal (BM) and Golden Ratio (GR) or other mixings. A small deviation from this maximal mixing between the two right-handed neutrinos could generate non-zero $θ_{13}$, shifts of the atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$ from $π/4$ and also could correct…
We propose a scotogenic model for generating neutrino masses through a three-loop seesaw. It is a minimally extended inert doublet model with a spontaneously broken global symmetry $U(1)'$ and a preserved $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry. The three-loop suppression allows the new particles to have masses at the TeV scale without fine-tuning the Yukawa couplings. The model leads to a rich phenomenology while satisfying all the current constraints imposed by neutrinoless double-beta decay, charged-lepton flavor violation, and electroweak precision observables. The relatively large Yukawa couplings lead t…
We study the renormalization group equations of Ma's scotogenic model, which generates an active neutrino mass at 1-loop level. In addition to other benefits, the main advantage of the mechanism exploited in this model is to lead to a natural loop-suppression of the neutrino mass, and therefore to an explanation for its smallness. However, since the structure of the neutrino mass matrix is altered compared to the ordinary type I seesaw case, the corresponding running is altered as well. We have derived the full set of renormalization group equations for the scotogenic model which, to our knowl…
We explore the idea that dark matter stability results from the presence of a matter-parity symmetry, arising naturally as a consequence of the spontaneous breaking of an extended $\mathrm{SU(3) \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X \otimes U(1)_{N}}$ electroweak gauge symmetry with fully gauged B-L. Using this framework we construct a theory for scotogenic dark matter and analyze its main features.
A few years ago, it had been shown that effects stemming from renormalisation group running can be quite large in the scotogenic model, where neutrinos obtain their mass only via a 1-loop diagram (or, more generally, in many models in which the light neutrino mass is generated via quantum corrections at loop-level). We present a new computation of the renormalisation group equations (RGEs) for the scotogenic model, thereby updating previous results. We discuss the matching in detail, in particular in what regards the different mass spectra possible for the new particles involved. We furthermor…
The Scotogenic model is an economical setup that induces Majorana neutrino masses at the 1-loop level and includes a dark matter candidate. We discuss a generalization of the original Scotogenic model with arbitrary numbers of generations of singlet fermion and inert doublet scalar fields. First, the full form of the light neutrino mass matrix is presented, with some comments on its derivation and with special attention to some particular cases. The behavior of the theory at high energies is explored by solving the Renormalization Group Equations.
We construct the one-loop and two-loop scotogenic models for Dirac neutrino mass generation in the context of $U(1)_{B-L}$ extensions of standard model. It is indicated that the total number of intermediate fermion singlets is uniquely fixed by anomaly free condition and the new particles may have exotic $B-L$ charges so that the direct SM Yukawa mass term $\barν_Lν_R\overline{ϕ^0}$ and the Majorana mass term $(m_N/2)\overline{ν_R^C}ν_R$ are naturally forbidden. After the spontaneous breaking of $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry, the discrete $Z_{2}$ or $Z_{3}$ symmetry appears as the residual symmetry an…
The Scotogenic model is an economical scenario that generates neutrino masses at the 1-loop level and includes a dark matter candidate. This is achieved by means of an ad-hoc $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, which forbids the tree-level generation of neutrino masses and stabilizes the lightest $\mathbb{Z}_2$-odd state. Neutrino masses are also suppressed by a quartic coupling, usually denoted by $λ_5$. While the smallness of this parameter is natural, it is not explained in the context of the Scotogenic model. We construct an ultraviolet completion of the Scotogenic model that provides a natural expla…
We consider the possibility that the dark matter particle is a scalar WIMP messenger associated to neutrino mass generation, made stable by the same symmetry responsible for the radiative origin of neutrino mass. We focus on some of the implications of this proposal as realized within the singlet-triplet scotogenic dark matter model. We identify consistent parameter sets consistent both with neutrino mass and the observed dark matter abundance. Finally we characterize the expected phenomenological profile of heavy Higgs boson physics at the LHC as well as at future linear Colliders.
We show that Ma's scotogenic model, which is arguably one of the simplest settings containing a Dark Matter candidate and generating a naturally suppressed active neutrino mass at 1-loop level, suffers from a potentially severe hierarchy-type problem. In case the right-handed neutrinos involved have sufficiently large masses, they can via loop effects drive the mass parameter of the inert scalar contained in the model towards negative values. This behaviour leads to a breaking of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ parity symmetry built into the model which is paramount to keeping the setting consistent at low…
It is shown that the inherent quadratic divergence of the Higgs mass renormalization of the standard model may be avoided in the well-studied scotogenic model of radiative neutrino mass as well as other analogous extensions.
We explore the intermediate dark matter mass regime of the inert Higgs doublet model (IHDM) by extending the model with three copies of right handed singlet neutrinos. The in built discrete $Z_2$ symmetry of the model allows these right handed neutrinos to couple to the usual lepton doublets through the inert Higgs doublet allowing the possibility of radiative neutrino mass in the scotogenic fashion. Apart from generating non-zero neutrino mass, such an extension can also revive the intermediate dark matter mass regime, between $W$ boson mass to a few hundred GeV's where pure IHDM can not give…
We have studied the scotogenic model proposed by Ernest Ma, which is an extension of the Standard Model by three singlet right-handed neutrinos and a scalar doublet. This model proposes that the light neutrinos acquire a non-zero mass at 1-loop level. In this work, the realisation of the scotogenic model is done by using discrete symmetries $A_{4}\times Z_{4}$ in which the non-zero $θ_{13}$ is produced by assuming a non-degeneracy in the loop factor. Considering different lepton flavor violating(LFV) processes such as $l_α\longrightarrow l_βγ$ and $l_α\longrightarrow 3l_β$, their impact on neu…
In this work we demonstrate how Scotogenic model can arise naturally from an $SU(7)$ grand unified theory. Our model also includes a low scale Pati-Salam $SU(4)_c\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)_R$ symmetry which unifies quarks and leptons. $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry needed for the realization of Scotogenic scenario is a residual symmetry and not $ad$ $hoc$. A short fermion masses and dark matter analysis is included.
We explore the phenomenology of the Georgi-Machacek model extended with two Higgs doublets and vector fermion doublets invariant under $SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y\times \mathcal {Z}_4 \times \mathcal {Z}_2$. The $\mathcal {Z}_4$ symmetry is broken spontaneously while the imposed $\mathcal {Z}_2$ symmetry forbids triplet fields to generate any vacuum expectation value and leading to an inert dark sector providing a viable candidate for dark matter and generate neutrino mass radiatively. Another interesting feature of the model is leptogenesis arising from decay of vector-like fermions. A detailed st…
In the context of $SU(3)_C \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y \times U(1)_χ$, where $U(1)_χ$ comes from $SO(10) \to SU(5) \times U(1)_χ$, supplemented by the non-Abelian discrete $Δ(27)$ symmetry for three lepton families, Dirac neutrino masses and their mixing are radiatively generated through dark matter. The gauge $U(1)_χ$ symmetry is broken spontaneously. The discrete $Δ(27)$ symmetry is broken softly and spontaneously. Together, they result in two residual symmetries, a global $U(1)_L$ lepton number and a dark symmetry, which may be $Z_2$, $Z_3$, or $U(1)_D$ depending on what scalar breaks $U(1…
In this literature we show how the scotogenic frame work can be a common origin for explaining neutrino mass, lepton asymmetry and give a dark matter candidate. We start out with the extension of the Standard Model with fermions, which are odd under a discrete symmetry, with the SM-like fermions we also have a doublet scalar field like Higgs but odd under discrete symmetry. This model has potential similar to the inert doublet model, which implies we can have a Dark Matter candidate similar to IDM, the Dark matter aspect and calculation of DM parameters are not discussed extensively. In this m…
We assume a dark $U_{D}$ symmetric hidden sector and explore its possible content such that neutrino mass and Dark Matter are generated through the scotogenic mechanism. The hidden sector is considered analogue to the Standard Model, namely the charge assignment of hidden fermions is chiral and anomaly-free. Moreover, $U_{D}$ is assumed broken by an only Higgs singlet that also generates masses to all hidden fermions, therefore the charge assignment is subjected to additional restriction. We search by computer program for charge assignments satisfying all these conditions, and identify the res…
Dark matter stability can result from a residual matter-parity symmetry, following naturally from the spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry. Here we explore this idea in the context of the $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X \otimes U(1)_{N}}$ electroweak extension of the standard model. The key feature of our new scotogenic dark matter theory is the use of a triplet scalar boson with anti-symmetric Yukawa couplings. This naturally implies that one of the light neutrinos is massless and, as a result, there is a lower bound for the $\rm 0νββ$ decay rate.
The Scotogenic Model is one of the most minimal models to account for both neutrino masses and dark matter (DM). In this model, neutrino masses are generated at the one-loop level, and in principle, both the lightest fermion singlet and the lightest neutral component of the scalar doublet can be viable DM candidates. However, the correct DM relic abundance can only be obtained in somewhat small regions of the parameter space, as there are strong constraints stemming from lepton flavour violation, neutrino masses, electroweak precision tests and direct detection. For the case of scalar DM, a su…
Radiative seesaw models have the attractive property of providing dark matter candidates in addition to generation of neutrino masses. Here we present a study of neutrino signals from the annihilation of dark matter particles which have been gravitationally captured in the Sun, in the framework of the scotogenic model. We compute expected event rates in the IceCube detector in its 86-string configuration. As fermionic dark matter does not accumulate in the Sun, we study the case of scalar dark matter, with a scan over the parameter space. Due to a naturally small mass splitting between the two…
A model of split left-right symmetry is proposed, where the first family of quarks and leptons transforms under $SU(2)_R$ but the heavier two families do not. The Higgs scalar sector consists only of an $SU(2)_L$ doublet and an $SU(2)_R$ doublet. The $u,d$ quarks and the electron, as well as the neutrinos, are massless at tree level, but become massive radiatively through their interactions with a simple dark sector. Verifiable consequences include $Z'$ and Higgs properties, neutrino mixing and rare decays, etc.
The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) has observed a tentative peak at $E\sim1.4~\TeV$ in the cosmic-ray electron spectrum. In this paper, we interpret this excess in the scotogenic type-II seesaw model. This model extends the canonical type-II seesaw model with dark matter (DM) candidates and a loop-induced vacuum expectation value of the triplet scalars, $v_Δ$, resulting in small neutrino masses naturally even for TeV scale triplet scalars. Assuming a nearby DM subhalo, the DAMPE excess can be explained by DM annihilating into a pair of triplet scalars which subsequently decay to charged…
