Video panoptic segmentation is an advanced task that extends panoptic segmentation by applying its concept to video sequences. In the hope of addressing the challenge of video panoptic segmentation in diverse conditions, We utilize DVIS++ as our baseline model and enhance it by introducing a comprehensive approach centered on the query-wise ensemble, supplemented by additional techniques. Our proposed approach achieved a VPQ score of 57.01 on the VIPSeg test set, and ranked 3rd in the VPS track of the 3rd Pixel-level Video Understanding in the Wild Challenge.

In this technical report, we describe our EfficientLPT architecture that won the panoptic tracking challenge in the 7th AI Driving Olympics at NeurIPS 2021. Our architecture builds upon the top-down EfficientLPS panoptic segmentation approach. EfficientLPT consists of a shared backbone with a modified EfficientNet-B5 model comprising the proximity convolution module as the encoder followed by the range-aware FPN to aggregate semantically rich range-aware multi-scale features. Subsequently, we employ two task-specific heads, the scale-invariant semantic head and hybrid task cascade with feedbac…
In this technical report, we present key details of our winning panoptic segmentation architecture EffPS_b1bs4_RVC. Our network is a lightweight version of our state-of-the-art EfficientPS architecture that consists of our proposed shared backbone with a modified EfficientNet-B5 model as the encoder, followed by the 2-way FPN to learn semantically rich multi-scale features. It consists of two task-specific heads, a modified Mask R-CNN instance head and our novel semantic segmentation head that processes features of different scales with specialized modules for coherent feature refinement. Fina…

Panoptic Scene Graph (PSG) generation aims to generate scene graph representations based on panoptic segmentation instead of rigid bounding boxes. Existing PSG methods utilize one-stage paradigm which simultaneously generates scene graphs and predicts semantic segmentation masks or two-stage paradigm that first adopt an off-the-shelf panoptic segmentor, then pairwise relationship prediction between these predicted objects. One-stage approach despite having a simplified training paradigm, its segmentation results are usually under-satisfactory, while two-stage approach lacks global context and …

With the rapid advances of autonomous driving, it becomes critical to equip its sensing system with more holistic 3D perception. However, existing works focus on parsing either the objects (e.g. cars and pedestrians) or scenes (e.g. trees and buildings) from the LiDAR sensor. In this work, we address the task of LiDAR-based panoptic segmentation, which aims to parse both objects and scenes in a unified manner. As one of the first endeavors towards this new challenging task, we propose the Dynamic Shifting Network (DS-Net), which serves as an effective panoptic segmentation framework in the poi…

Point cloud panoptic segmentation is a challenging task that seeks a holistic solution for both semantic and instance segmentation to predict groupings of coherent points. Previous approaches treat semantic and instance segmentation as surrogate tasks, and they either use clustering methods or bounding boxes to gather instance groupings with costly computation and hand-crafted designs in the instance segmentation task. In this paper, we propose a simple but effective point cloud unified panoptic segmentation (PUPS) framework, which use a set of point-level classifiers to directly predict seman…

This technical report presents the 1st place winning solution for the Waymo Open Dataset 3D semantic segmentation challenge 2022. Our network, termed LidarMultiNet, unifies the major LiDAR perception tasks such as 3D semantic segmentation, object detection, and panoptic segmentation in a single framework. At the core of LidarMultiNet is a strong 3D voxel-based encoder-decoder network with a novel Global Context Pooling (GCP) module extracting global contextual features from a LiDAR frame to complement its local features. An optional second stage is proposed to refine the first-stage segmentati…

Panoptic segmentation requires segments of both "things" (countable object instances) and "stuff" (uncountable and amorphous regions) within a single output. A common approach involves the fusion of instance segmentation (for "things") and semantic segmentation (for "stuff") into a non-overlapping placement of segments, and resolves overlaps. However, instance ordering with detection confidence do not correlate well with natural occlusion relationship. To resolve this issue, we propose a branch that is tasked with modeling how two instance masks should overlap one another as a binary relation.…

Two major challenges of 3D LiDAR Panoptic Segmentation (PS) are that point clouds of an object are surface-aggregated and thus hard to model the long-range dependency especially for large instances, and that objects are too close to separate each other. Recent literature addresses these problems by time-consuming grouping processes such as dual-clustering, mean-shift offsets, etc., or by bird-eye-view (BEV) dense centroid representation that downplays geometry. However, the long-range geometry relationship has not been sufficiently modeled by local feature learning from the above methods. To t…

LiDAR-based 3D object detection, semantic segmentation, and panoptic segmentation are usually implemented in specialized networks with distinctive architectures that are difficult to adapt to each other. This paper presents LidarMultiNet, a LiDAR-based multi-task network that unifies these three major LiDAR perception tasks. Among its many benefits, a multi-task network can reduce the overall cost by sharing weights and computation among multiple tasks. However, it typically underperforms compared to independently combined single-task models. The proposed LidarMultiNet aims to bridge the perfo…

State-of-the-art methods for large-scale driving-scene LiDAR segmentation often project the point clouds to 2D space and then process them via 2D convolution. Although this corporation shows the competitiveness in the point cloud, it inevitably alters and abandons the 3D topology and geometric relations. A natural remedy is to utilize the3D voxelization and 3D convolution network. However, we found that in the outdoor point cloud, the improvement obtained in this way is quite limited. An important reason is the property of the outdoor point cloud, namely sparsity and varying density. Motivated…
