A collective spin model is used to describe two species of mutually interacting ultracold bosonic atoms confined to a toroidal trap. The system is modeled by a Hamiltonian that can be split into two components, a linear part and a quadratic part, which may be controlled independently. We show the linear component is an analog of a Zeeman Hamiltonian, and the quadratic component presents a macroscopic simulator for spin-orbit and hyperfine interactions. We determine a complete set of commuting observables for both the linear and quadratic Hamiltonians, and derive analytical expressions for their respective spectra and density of states. We determine the conditions for generating maximal entanglement between the two species of atoms with a view to applications involving quantum correlations among spin degrees of freedom, such as in the area of quantum information.
We demonstrate coherent control of both the rotational and hyperfine state of ultracold, chemically stable $^{87}$Rb$^{133}$Cs molecules with external microwave fields. We create a sample of ~2000 molecules in the lowest hyperfine level of the rovibronic ground state N = 0. We measure the transition frequencies to 8 different hyperfine levels of the N = 1 state at two magnetic fields ~23 G apart. We determine accurate values of rotational and hyperfine coupling constants that agree well with previous calculations. We observe Rabi oscillations on each transition, allowing complete population tr…
We produce ultracold dense trapped samples of 87Rb133Cs molecules in their rovibrational ground state, with full nuclear hyperfine state control, by stimulated Raman adiabatic passage (STIRAP) with efficiencies of 90%. We observe the onset of hyperfine-changing collisions when the magnetic field is ramped so that the molecules are no longer in the hyperfine ground state. A strong quadratic shift of the transition frequencies as a function of applied electric field shows the strongly dipolar character of the RbCs ground-state molecule. Our results open up the prospect of realizing stable bosoni…
We demonstrate coherent microwave control of rotational and hyperfine states of trapped, ultracold, and chemically stable $^{23}$Na$^{40}$K molecules. Starting with all molecules in the absolute rovibrational and hyperfine ground state, we study rotational transitions in combined magnetic and electric fields and explain the rich hyperfine structure. Following the transfer of the entire molecular ensemble into a single hyperfine level of the first rotationally excited state, $J{=}1$, we observe collisional lifetimes of more than $3\, \rm s$, comparable to those in the rovibrational ground state…
We report the full control over the internal states of ultracold $^{23}$Na$^{87}$Rb molecules, including vibrational, rotational and hyperfine degrees of freedom. Starting from a sample of weakly bound Feshbach molecules, we realize the creation of molecules in single hyperfine levels of both the rovibrational ground and excited states with a high-efficiency and high-resolution stimulated Raman adiabatic passage. Starting from the rovibrational and hyperfine ground state, we demonstrate rotational and hyperfine control with one- and two-photon microwave spectroscopy. This achievement of fully …
We investigate synthesis of a hyperfine spin lattice in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate, with two hyperfine spin components, inside a one-dimensional high-finesse optical cavity, using off-resonant superradiant Raman scattering. Spatio-temporal evolution of the relative population of the hyperfine spin modes is examined numerically by solving the coupled cavity-condensate mean field equations in the dispersive regime. We find, analytically and numerically, that beyond a certain threshold of the transverse laser pump, Raman superradiance and self-organization of the hyperfine spin components…
We study the combination of hyperfine and Zeeman structure in the spin-orbit coupled $A^1Σ_u^+-b^3Π_u$ complex of $^{87}\textrm{Rb}_2$. For this purpose, absorption spectroscopy at a magnetic field around $B=1000\:\textrm{G}$ is carried out. We drive optical dipole transitions from the lowest rotational state of an ultracold Feshbach molecule to various vibrational levels with $0^+$ symmetry of the $A-b$ complex. In contrast to previous measurements with rotationally excited alkali-dimers, we do not observe equal spacings of the hyperfine levels. In addition, the spectra vary substantially for…
We show how to exploit the rich hyperfine structure of fermionic alkali atoms to produce a quasi-1D topological superfluid while avoiding excessive heating from off-resonant scattering. We model interacting fermions where four hyperfine states are coupled by a variety of optical and microwave fields. We calculate the local density of states in a trap, finding regimes with zero energy topological edge modes. Heating rates in this system are significantly suppressed compared to simple Raman-induced spin-orbit coupling approaches.
We show that a linear term coupling the atoms of an ultracold binary mixture provides a simple method to induce an effective and tunable population imbalance between them. This term is easily realized by a Rabi coupling between different hyperfine levels of the same atomic species. The resulting effective imbalance holds for one-particle states dressed by the Rabi coupling and obtained diagonalizing the mixing matrix of the Rabi term. This way of controlling the chemical potentials applies for both bosonic and fermionic atoms and it allows also for spatially and temporally dependent imbalances…
Starting from weakly bound Feshbach molecules, we demonstrate a two-photon pathway to the dipolar ground state of bi-alkali molecules that involves only singlet-to-singlet optical transitions. This pathway eliminates the search for a suitable intermediate state with sufficient singlet-triplet mixing and the exploration of its hyperfine structure, as is typical for pathways starting from triplet dominated Feshbach molecules. By selecting a Feshbach state with a stretched singlet hyperfine component and controlling the polarization of the excitation laser, we assure coupling to only a single hyp…
Quantum information platforms made great progress in the control of many-body entanglement and the implementation of quantum error correction, but it remains a challenge to realize both in the same setup. Here, we propose a mixture of two ultracold atomic species as a platform for universal quantum computation with long-range entangling gates, while providing a natural candidate for quantum error-correction. In this proposed setup, one atomic species realizes localized collective spins of tunable length, which form the fundamental unit of information. The second atomic species yields phononic …
Reactive or elastic two-body collisions in an ultracold gas are affected by quantum statistics. In this paper, we study ensemble-averaged collision rates for a two-species fermionic gas. The two species may have different masses, densities and temperatures. We investigate how averaged collision rates are affected by the presence of Fermi spheres in the initial states; Pauli blocking of final states is not considered. It is shown that, independently on the details of the collision, Fermi-averaged collision rates deviate from Boltzmann-averaged ones, particularly for a gas with strong imbalance …
We show that a two-component mixture of a few repulsively interacting ultracold atoms in a one-dimensional trap possesses very different quantum regimes and that the crossover between them can be induced by tuning the interactions in one of the species. In the composite fermionization regime, where the interactions between both components are large, none of the species show large occupation of any natural orbital. Our results show that by increasing the interaction in one of the species, one can reach the phase-separated regime. In this regime, the weakly interacting component stays at the cen…
We report a detailed molecular spectroscopy study on the lowest excited electronic states of $^{23}\rm{Na}^{87}\rm{Rb}$ for producing ultracold $^{23}\rm{Na}^{87}\rm{Rb}$ molecules in the electronic, rovibrational and hyperfine ground state. Starting from weakly-bound Feshbach molecules, a series of vibrational levels of the $A^{1}Σ^{+}-b^{3}Π$ coupled excited states were investigated. After resolving, modeling and interpreting the hyperfine structure of several lines, we successfully identified a long-lived level resulting from the accidental hyperfine coupling between the $0^+$ and $0^-$ com…
We report on the creation of an ultracold dipolar gas of fermionic $^{23}$Na$^{40}$K molecules in their absolute rovibrational and hyperfine ground state. Starting from weakly bound Feshbach molecules, we demonstrate hyperfine resolved two-photon transfer into the singlet ${\rm X}^1Σ^+ |v{=}0,J{=}0\rangle$ ground state, coherently bridging a binding energy difference of 0.65 eV via stimulated rapid adiabatic passage. The spin-polarized, nearly quantum degenerate molecular gas displays a lifetime longer than 2.5 s, highlighting NaK's stability against two-body chemical reactions. A homogeneous …
We investigate the competition of various exotic superfluid states in a chain of spin-polarized ultracold fermionic atoms with hyperfine spin $F = 3/2$ and s-wave contact interactions. We show that the ground state is an exotic inhomogeneous mixture in which two distinct superfluid phases --- spin-carrying pairs and singlet quartets --- form alternating domains in an extended region of the parameter space.
We consider ultracold matter of spin-2 atoms in optical lattices. We derive an effective Hamiltonian for the studies of spin ordering in Mott states and investigate hyperfine spin correlations. Particularly, we diagonalize the Hamiltonian in an on-site Hilbert space taking into account spin-dependent interactions and exchange between different sites. We obtain phase diagrams and quantum phase transitions between various magnetic phases.
We explore the quench dynamics of a binary Bose-Einstein condensate crossing the miscibility-immiscibility threshold and vice versa, both within and in particular beyond the mean-field approximation. Increasing the interspecies repulsion leads to the filamentation of the density of each species, involving shorter wavenumbers and longer spatial scales in the many-body approach. These filaments appear to be strongly correlated and exhibit domain-wall structures. Following the reverse quench process multiple dark-antidark solitary waves are spontaneously generated and subsequently found to decay …
We consider the behavior of an ultracold Fermi gas across a narrow Feshbach resonance, where the occupation of the closed channel may not be negligible. While the corrections to the single-channel formulae associated with the nonzero chemical potential and with particle conservation have been considered in the existing literature, there is a further effect, namely the "inter-channel Pauli exclusion principle" associated with the fact that a single hyperfine species may be common to the two channels. We focus on this effect and show that, as intuitively expected, the resulting corrections are o…
We report on the controlled insertion of individual Cs atoms into an ultracold Rb gas at about 400 nK. This requires to combine the techniques necessary for cooling, trapping and manipulating single laser cooled atoms around the Doppler temperature with an experiment to produce ultracold degenerate quantum gases. In our approach, both systems are prepared in separated traps and then combined. Our results pave the way for coherent interaction between a quantum gas and a single or few neutral atoms of another species.
We unravel the correlated tunneling dynamics of a mass imbalanced few-body fermi-fermi mixture upon quenching the tilt of a double-well. The non-equilibrium dynamics of both species changes from Rabi-oscillations close to the non-interacting limit to a delayed tunneling dynamics for moderate interspecies repulsions. Considering strong interspecies interactions the lighter species experiences quantum self-trapping due to the heavier species which acts as an effective material barrier, while performing almost perfect Rabi-oscillations. The degree of entanglement, inherent in the system, is analy…
We create fermionic dipolar $^{23}$Na$^6$Li molecules in their triplet ground state from an ultracold mixture of $^{23}$Na and $^6$Li. Using magneto-association across a narrow Feshbach resonance followed by a two-photon STIRAP transfer to the triplet ground state, we produce $3\,{\times}\,10^4$ ground state molecules in a spin-polarized state. We observe a lifetime of $4.6\,\text{s}$ in an isolated molecular sample, approaching the $p$-wave universal rate limit. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy of the triplet state was used to determine the hyperfine structure of this previously unobserve…
The presence of (approximate) conservation laws can prohibit the fast relaxation of interacting many-particle quantum systems. We investigate this physics by studying the center-of-mass oscillations of two species of fermionic ultracold atoms in a harmonic trap. If their trap frequencies are equal, a dynamical symmetry (spectrum generating algebra), closely related to Kohn's theorem, prohibits the relaxation of center-of-mass oscillations. A small detuning $δω$ of the trap frequencies for the two species breaks the dynamical symmetry and ultimately leads to a damping of dipole oscillations dri…
We prepare mixtures of ultracold $^{39}$K atoms in various hyperfine spin states and $^{23}$Na$^{39}$K molecules in an optical dipole trap at a fixed magnetic field and study inelastic two-body atom-molecule collisions. We observe atom-molecule losses that are hyperfine dependent with a two-body loss rate far below the universal limit. We analyze the two-body loss dynamics based on the derivation of general and easy applicable analytic solutions for the differential equations describing the loss of an arbitrary number $γ$ of particles in a single collisional event.
We demonstrate coupling of magnetically trapped ultracold $^87$Rb ground state atoms to a coherently driven superconducting coplanar resonator on an integrated atom chip. We measure the microwave field strength in the cavity through observation of the AC shift of the hyperfine transition frequency when the cavity is driven off-resonance from the atomic transition. The measured shifts are used to reconstruct the field in the resonator, in close agreement with transmission measurements of the cavity, giving proof of the coupling between atoms and resonator. When driving the cavity in resonance w…
We show that non-abelian potentials acting on ultracold gases with two hyperfine levels can give rise to ground states with non-abelian excitations. We consider a realistic gauge potential for which the Landau levels can be exactly determined: the non-abelian part of the vector potential makes the Landau levels non-degenerate. In the presence of strong repulsive interactions, deformed Laughlin ground states occur in general. However, at the degeneracy points of the Landau levels, non-abelian quantum Hall states appear: these ground states, including deformed Moore-Read states (characterized by…
We report the observation of coherent heteronuclear spin dynamics driven by inter-species spin-spin interaction in an ultracold spinor mixture, which manifests as periodical and well correlated spin oscillations between two atomic species. In particular, we investigate the magnetic field dependence of the oscillations and find a resonance behavior which depends on {\em both} the linear and quadratic Zeeman effects and the spin-dependent interaction. We also demonstrate a unique knob for controlling the spin dynamics in the spinor mixture with species-dependent vector light shifts. Our finds ar…
We report a technique that uses clouds of ultracold atoms as sensitive, tunable, and non-invasive probes for microwave field imaging with micrometer spatial resolution. The microwave magnetic field components drive Rabi oscillations on atomic hyperfine transitions whose frequency can be tuned with a static magnetic field. Readout is accomplished using state-selective absorption imaging. Quantitative data extraction is simple and it is possible to reconstruct the distribution of microwave magnetic field amplitudes and phases. While we demonstrate 2d imaging, an extension to 3d imaging is straig…
We investigate the quantum phases of ultracold atoms trapped in a vortex lattice using a mixture of two bosonic species (A and B), in the presence of an artificial gauge field. Heavy atoms of species B are confined in the array of vortices generated in species A, and they are described through a Bose-Hubbard model. In contrast to the optical-lattice setups, the vortex lattice has an intrinsic dynamics, given by its Tkachenko modes. Including these quantum fluctuations in the effective model for B atoms yields an extended Bose-Hubbard model, with an additional "phonon"-mediated long-range attra…
We measure inelastic collisions between ultracold CaF molecules by combining two optical tweezers, each containing a single molecule. We observe collisions between $^2Σ$ CaF molecules in the absolute ground state $|X,v=0, N=0,F=0\rangle$, and in excited hyperfine and rotational states. In the absolute ground state, we find a two-body loss rate of $7(4) \times 10^{-11} \text{cm}^{3}/\text{s}$, which is below, but close to the predicted universal loss rate.
An ultracold gas of heteronuclear alkali dimer molecules with hyperfine structure loaded into a one-dimensional optical lattice is investigated. The \emph{Hyperfine Molecular Hubbard Hamiltonian} (HMHH), an effective low-energy lattice Hamiltonian, is derived from first principles. The large permanent electric dipole moment of these molecules gives rise to long range dipole-dipole forces in a DC electric field and allows for transitions between rotational states in an AC microwave field. Additionally, a strong magnetic field can be used to control the hyperfine degrees of freedom independently…
We experimentally investigate the mix-dimensional scattering occurring when the collisional partners live in different dimensions. We employ a binary mixture of ultracold atoms and exploit a species-selective 1D optical lattice to confine only one atomic species in 2D. By applying an external magnetic field in proximity of a Feshbach resonance, we adjust the free-space scattering length to observe a series of resonances in mixed dimensions. By monitoring 3-body inelastic losses, we measure the magnetic field values corresponding to the mix-dimensional scattering resonances and find a good agre…
We investigate the tunneling dynamics of an ultracold bosonic impurity species which interacts repulsively with a second, larger Bose gas. Both species are held in a finite-sized quasi-one-dimensional box potential. In addition, the impurity bosons experience a periodic potential generated by an optical lattice. We initially prepare our binary mixture in its ground state, such that the impurities and Bose gas are phase separated and the impurities localize pairwise in adjacent sites of the periodic potential, by tuning the interaction strengths and the lattice depth correspondingly. The dynami…
We present a quantum simulation scheme for the Abelian-Higgs lattice gauge theory using ultracold bosonic atoms in optical lattices. The model contains both gauge and Higgs scalar fields, and exhibits interesting phases related to confinement and the Higgs mechanism. The model can be simulated by an atomic Hamiltonian, by first mapping the local gauge symmetry to an internal symmetry of the atomic system, the conservation of hyperfine angular momentum in atomic collisions. By including auxiliary bosons in the simulation, we show how the Abelian-Higgs Hamiltonian emerges effectively. We analyze…
We report the creation of ultracold bosonic dipolar $^{23}\textrm{Na}^{39}\textrm{K}$ molecules in their absolute rovibrational ground state. Starting from weakly bound molecules immersed in an ultracold atomic mixture, we coherently transfer the dimers to the rovibrational ground state using an adiabatic Raman passage. We analyze the two-body decay in a pure molecular sample and in molecule-atom mixtures and find an unexpectedly low two-body decay coefficient for collisions between molecules and $^{39}\textrm{K}$ atoms in a selected hyperfine state. The preparation of bosonic $^{23}\textrm{Na…
We consider an atom inside a ring cavity, where a plane-wave cavity field together with an external coherent laser beam induces a two-photon Raman transition between two hyperfine ground states of the atom. This cavity-assisted Raman transition induces effective coupling between atom's internal degrees of freedom and its center-of-mass motion. In~the meantime, atomic dynamics exerts a back-action to cavity photons. We investigate the properties of this system by adopting a mean-field and a full quantum approach, and show that the interplay between the atomic dynamics and the cavity field gives…
Techniques to manipulate the individual constituents of an ultracold mixture are key to investigating impurity physics. In this work, we confine a mixture of the hyperfine ground states of Rb-87 in a double-well potential. The potential is produced by dressing the atoms with multiple radiofrequencies. The amplitude and phase of each frequency component of the dressing field are individually controlled to independently manipulate each species. Furthermore, we verify that our mixture of hyperfine states is collisionally stable, with no observable inelastic loss.
We theoretically study a possible new pairing mechanism for a two-dimensional population imbalanced Fermi gas with short-range repulsive interactions which can be realized on the upper branch of a Feshbach resonance. We use a well-controlled renormalization group approach, which allows an unbiased study of the instabilities of imbalanced Fermi liquid without assumption of a broken symmetry and gives a numerical calculation of the transition temperature from microscopic parameters. Our results show a leading superfluid instability in the p-wave channel for the majority species. The correspondin…
We present a new quantum gas apparatus for ultracold mixtures of K and Cs atoms and ultracold samples of KCs ground-state molecules. We demonstrate the apparatus' capabilities by producing Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) of 39K and 133Cs in a manner that will eventually allow sequential condensation within one experimental cycle, precise sample overlap, and magnetic association of atoms into KCs molecules. The condensates are created independently without relying on sympathetic cooling. Our approach is universal and applicable to other species combinations when the two species show dramaticall…
The recent experimental realization of synthetic spin-orbit coupling (SOC) opens a new avenue for exploring novel quantum states with ultracold atoms. However, in experiments for generating two-dimensional SOC (e.g., Rashba type), a perpendicular Zeeman field, which opens a band gap at the Dirac point and induces many topological phenomena, is still lacking. Here we theoretically propose and experimentally realize a simple scheme for generating two-dimension SOC and a perpendicular Zeeman field simultaneously in ultracold Fermi gases by tuning the polarization of three Raman lasers that couple…
The system of ultracold atoms with hyperfine spin $F=3/2$ might be unstable against the formation of quintet pairs if the interaction is attractive in the quintet channel. We have investigated the behavior of correlation functions in a model including only s-wave interactions at quarter filling by large-scale density-matrix renormalization-group simulations. We show that the correlations of quintet pairs become quasi-long-ranged, when the system is partially polarized, leading to the emergence of various mixed superfluid phases in which BCS-like pairs carrying different magnetic moment coexist…
Recent experimental advances enabled the realization of mobile impurities immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) of ultracold atoms. Here we consider impurities with two or more internal hyperfine states, and study their radio-frequency (RF) absorption spectra, which correspond to transitions between two different hyperfine states. We calculate RF spectra for the case when one of the hyperfine states involved interacts with the BEC, while the other state is non-interacting, by performing a non-perturbative resummation of the probabilities of exciting different numbers of phonon modes. In…
We investigate experimentally the entropy transfer between two distinguishable atomic quantum gases at ultralow temperatures. Exploiting a species-selective trapping potential, we are able to control the entropy of one target gas in presence of a second auxiliary gas. With this method, we drive the target gas into the degenerate regime in conditions of controlled temperature by transferring entropy to the auxiliary gas. We envision that our method could be useful both to achieve the low entropies required to realize new quantum phases and to measure the temperature of atoms in deep optical lat…
The creation of ultracold molecules is currently limited to diatomic species. In this letter we present a theoretical description of the photoassociation of ultracold atoms and molecules to create ultracold excited triatomic molecules, thus being a novel example of light-assisted ultracold chemical reaction. The calculation of the photoassociation rate of ultracold Cs atoms with ultracold Cs$_2$ molecules in their rovibrational ground state is reported, based on the solution of the quantum dynamics involving the atom-molecule long-range interactions, and assuming a model potential for the shor…
We propose a novel realization of Kondo physics with ultracold atomic gases. It is based on a Fermi sea of two different hyperfine states of one atom species forming bound states with a different species, which is spatially confined in a trapping potential. We show that different situations displaying Kondo physics can be realized when Feshbach resonances between the species are tuned by a magnetic field and the trapping frequency is varied. We illustrate that a mixture of ${}^{40}$K and ${}^{23}$Na atoms can be used to generate a Kondo correlated state and that momentum resolved radio frequen…
Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is central to many physical phenomena, including fine structures of atomic spectra and quantum topological matters. Whereas SOC is in general fixed in a physical system, atom-laser interaction provides physicists a unique means to create and control synthetic SOC for ultracold atoms \cite{Dalibard}. Though significant experimental progresses have been made, a bottleneck in current studies is the lack of a two-dimensional (2D) synthetic SOC, which is crucial for realizing high-dimensional topological matters. Here, we report the experimental realization of 2D SOC in ul…
We investigate theoretically momentum-resolved radio-frequency (rf) spectroscopy of a noninteracting atomic Fermi gas in a spin-orbit coupled lattice. This lattice configuration has been recently created at MIT [Cheuk et al., arXiv:1205.3483] for 6Li atoms, by coupling the two hyperfine spin-states with a pair of Raman laser beams and additional rf coupling. Here, we show that momentum-resolved rf spectroscopy can measure single-particle energies and eigenstates and therefore resolve the band structure of the spin-orbit coupled lattice. In our calculations, we take into account the effects of …
We explore the dynamical transport of an impurity between different embedding majority species which are spatially separated in a double well. The transfer and storage of the impurity is triggered by dynamically changing the interaction strengths between the impurity and the two majority species. We find a simple but efficient protocol consisting of linear ramps of majority-impurity interactions at designated times to pin or unpin the impurity. Our study of this highly imbalanced few-body triple mixture is conducted with the multi-layer multi-configuration time-dependent Hartree method for ato…
We show that a composite spin-1/2 Kondo system can be formed by coupling a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) to the internal hyperfine states of a trapped ultracold atomic Fermi gas. Here, the SQUID, or flux qubit, acts as an effective magnetic impurity that induces spin-flip scattering near the Fermi energies of the trapped gas. Although the ultracold gas and SQUID are at vastly different temperatures, the formation of a strongly correlated Kondo state between the two systems is found when the gas is cooled below the Kondo temperature; this temperature regime is within curre…
In a Feshbach resonance, the effective s-wave scattering length grows when one moves toward the resonance point, and eventually diverges at this point. There is one characteristic energy scale, $δ_c$, defined as, in the negative side of the resonance point, the detuning energy at which the weight of the bound state shifts from predominatedly in the open-channel to predominated in the closed-channel. When the many-body energy scale (e.g. the Fermi energy, $E_{F}$) is larger than $δ_c$, the closed-channel weight is significant and has to be included in the many-body theory. Furthermore, when two…
Mott insulating ultracold gases posses a unique whole-atom exchange interaction which enables large quantum fluctuations between the Zeeman sublevels of each atom. By strengthening this interaction---either through the use of large-spin atoms, or by tuning the particle-particle interactions via optical Feshbach resonance---one may enhance fluctuations and facilitate the appearance of the long sought-after quantum spin liquid phase---all in the highly tunable environment of cold atoms. To illustrate the relationship between the spin magnitude, interaction strength, and resulting magnetic phases…
Universal collision rate constants are calculated for ultracold collisions of two like bosonic or fermionic heteronuclear alkali-metal dimers involving the species Li, Na, K, Rb, or Cs. Universal collisions are those for which the short range probability of a reactive or quenching collision is unity such that a collision removes a pair of molecules from the sample. In this case, the collision rates are determined by universal quantum dynamics at very long range compared to the chemical bond length. We calculate the universal rate constants for reaction of the reactive dimers in their ground vi…
We report on the experimental realization of ultracold $^{174}{\rm Yb}$-$^{7}{\rm Li}$ (Boson-Boson) and $^{173}{\rm Yb}$-$^{7}{\rm Li}$ (Fermion-Boson) mixtures. They are loaded into three dimensional (3D) or one dimensional (1D) optical lattices that are species-selectively deep for the heavy Ytterbium (Yb) and shallow for the light bosonic Lithium (Li) component, realizing novel mixed dimensional systems. In the 1D optical lattice the band structure of $^{173}{\rm Yb}$ is reconstructed in the presence of $^{7}{\rm Li}$. Spectroscopic measurements of the $^{174}{\rm Yb}$-$^{7}{\rm Li}$ mixtu…
We report the experimental and theoretical study of two-body interactions in a $^{6}$Li-$^{133}$Cs Fermi- Bose mixture. Using a translatable dipole trap setup, we have successfully trapped the two species in the same trap with temperatures of a few microkelvins. By monitoring atom number loss and inter-species thermalization, we identify five s-wave interspecies Feshbach resonances in the lowest two scattering channels. We construct a coupled channels model using molecular potentials to fit and characterize these resonances. Two of the resonances are as wide as 60 G and thus should be suitable…
