A phase shift in the acoustic oscillations of CMB spectra is a characteristic signature for the presence of non-photon radiation propagating differently from photons, even when the radiation couples to SM particles solely gravitationally. It is well-established that compared to the presence of free-streaming radiation, CMB spectra shift to higher $\ell$-modes in the presence of self-interacting non-photon radiation such as neutrinos and dark radiation. In this study, we further demonstrate that the scattering of non-photon radiation with dark matter can further amplify this phase shift. We show that when the energy density of the interacting radiation surpasses that of interacting dark matter around matter-radiation equality, the phase shift enhancement is proportional to the interacting dark matter abundance and remains insensitive to the radiation energy density. Given the presence of dark matter-radiation interaction, this additional phase shift emerges as a generic signature of models featuring an interacting dark sector or neutrino-dark matter scattering. Using neutrino-dark matter scattering as an example, we numerically calculate the amplified phase shift and offer an analytical interpretation of the result by modeling photon and neutrino perturbations with coupled harmonic oscillators. This framework also explains the phase shift contrast between self-interacting and free-streaming neutrinos. Fitting models with neutrino-dark matter or dark radiation-dark matter interactions to CMB and large-scale structure data, we validate the presence of the enhanced phase shift, affirmed by the linear dependence observed between the preferred regions of the sound horizon angle $θ_s$ and interacting dark matter abundance. An increased $θ_s$ and a suppressed matter power spectrum is therefore a generic feature of models containing dark matter scattering with abundant dark radiation.
The term dark radiation is used both to describe a noninteracting neutrino species and as a correction to the Friedmann Equation in the simplest five-dimensional RS-II brane-world cosmology. In this paper we consider the constraints on both meanings of dark radiation based upon the newest results for light-element nuclear reaction rates, observed light-element abundances and the power spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Adding dark radiation during big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) alters the Friedmann expansion rate causing the nuclear reactions to freeze out at a different temper…
We analyse the CMB radiation in spherical 3-spaces with non-trivial topology. The focus is put on an inhomogeneous space which possesses observer dependent CMB properties. The suppression of the CMB anisotropies on large angular scales is analysed with respect to the position of the CMB observer. The equivalence of a lens space with a Platonic cubic space is shown and used for the harmonic analysis. We give the transformation of the CMB multipole radiation amplitude as a function of the position of the observer. General sum rules are obtained in terms of the squares of the expansion coefficien…
Cosmic microwave background (CMB) observations suggest the possibility of an extra dark radiation component, while the current evidence from big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) is more ambiguous. Dark radiation from a decaying particle can affect these two processes differently. Early decays add an additional radiation component to both the CMB and BBN, while late decays can alter the radiation content seen in the CMB while having a negligible effect on BBN. Here we quantify this difference and explore the intermediate regime by examining particles decaying during BBN, i.e., particle lifetimes τ_X …
We study the cross-correlation between the 21cm and CMB B mode fluctuations which are induced by the cosmic birefringence when the non-constant scalar field couples to the electromagnetic field strength. Such multi-wavelength signals can potentially probe the reionization history of the Universe and also explore the nature of fundamental physics such as the parity violation and the scalar field dynamics in the early Universe. We illustrate the feasibility to detect such 21cm-B mode cross-correlations through commonly discussed scalar field models, the quintessence-like scalar field which is re…
Dark sectors provide a compelling theoretical framework for thermally producing sub-GeV dark matter, and motivate an expansive new accelerator and direct-detection experimental program. We demonstrate the power of constraining such dark sectors using the measured effective number of neutrino species, $N_\text{eff}$, from the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and primordial elemental abundances from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). As a concrete example, we consider a dark matter particle of arbitrary spin that interacts with the Standard Model via a massive dark photon, accounting for an arbitr…
Neutral hydrogen is ubiquitous, absorbing and emitting 21 cm radiation throughout much of the Universe's history. Active sources of perturbations, such as cosmic strings, would generate simultaneous perturbations in the distribution of neutral hydrogen and in the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation from recombination. Moving strings would create wakes leading to 21 cm brightness fluctuations, while also perturbing CMB light via the Gott-Kaiser-Stebbins effect. This would lead to spatial correlations between the 21 cm and CMB anisotropies. Passive sources, like inflationary perturbation…
The problem of scattering of CMB radiation on wormholes is considered. It is shown that a static gas of wormholes does not perturb the spectrum of CMB. In the first order by $v/c$ the presence of peculiar velocities gives rise to the dipole contribution in $ΔT/T$, which corresponds to the well-known kinetic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect. In next orders there appears a more complicated dependence of the perturbed CMB spectrum on peculiar velocities. We also discuss some peculiar features of the scattering on a single wormhole.
Dust is ubiquitous in the Universe and its influence on the observed Electromagnetic (EM) radiation needs to be correctly addressed. In recent years it became clear that scattering of EM radiation from interstellar dust grains could change the local properties of the observed Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. Here we consider the relevant processes of emission and scattering of EM radiation from spinning dust particles, and discuss their possible influence on the CMB. In particular, we show that scattered radiation can establish a correlation between different spectral components of…
Using a new sample of extremely metal poor systems, the EMPRESS survey has recently reported a primordial helium abundance that is $3σ$ smaller than the prediction from the standard big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) scenario. This measurement could be interpreted as a hint for a primordial lepton asymmetry in the electron neutrino flavor. Motivated by the EMPRESS results, we present a comprehensive analysis of the lepton asymmetry using measurements of the abundances of primordial elements, along with cosmic microwave background (CMB) data from Planck. Assuming that there is no dark radiation in …
This brief note speculates that the recently reported residual CMB signal [Seiffert et al 2009] may originate within the Sun's heliosheath. A temperature spectrum function is derived that has the same power law form as the fitted function in Seiffert et al. In particular a spectral index of +2 is implied. An optically thin radiating shell of thickness ~1AU could match the required 1K deg power law amplitude. A possible mechanism for the heliosheath magnetic fields is discussed based on Alfven's heliospheric current model with embedded double layers as the energy source for the relativistic ele…
In this work we consider non-zero circular polarization for the CMB radiation as a result of new interactions. We then rewrite the Boltzmann equations for the Stokes parameters $Q$, $U$ and $V$ and show that the circular polarization can generate the B-mode polarization even if no tensor perturbations are present.
Recent Cosmic Microwave Background measurements at high multipoles from the South Pole Telescope and from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope seem to disagree in their conclusions for the neutrino and dark radiation properties. In this paper we set new bounds on the dark radiation and neutrino properties in different cosmological scenarios combining the ACT and SPT data with the nine year data release of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP9), Baryon Acoustic Oscillation data, Hubble Telescope measurements of the Hubble constant, and Supernovae Ia luminosity distance data. In the standar…
Standard cosmological models do predict a measurable amount of anisotropies in the intensity and linear polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) via Thomson scattering, even though these theoretical models do not predict circular polarization for CMB radiation. In other hand, the circular polarization of CMB has not been excluded in observational evidences. Here we estimate the circular polarization power spectrum $C_{l}^{V(S)}$ in CMB radiation due to Compton scattering and non-linear photon-photon forward scattering via Euler-Heisenberg Effective Lagrangian. We have es…
We analyze the ability of galaxy and CMB lensing surveys to constrain massive neutrinos and new models of dark radiation. We present a Fisher forecast analysis for neutrino mass constraints with the LSST galaxy survey and the CMB S4 survey. A joint analysis of the three galaxy and shear 2-point functions, along with key systematics parameters and Planck priors, constrains the neutrino masses to $\sum m_ν= 0.041\,$eV at 1-$σ$ level, comparable to constraints expected from Stage 4 CMB lensing. If low redshift information from upcoming spectroscopic surveys like DESI is included, the constraint b…
A fully QED/relativistic theory of light pressure of CMB radiation and Fokker-Planck equation for electron distribution combined with cosmologic relation for CMB temperature, T, yields analytic results for the evolution of the distribution over large span of time and energies. A strong imprint of CMB on electrons transpires via formation of "frozen non-equilibrium" state of electrons in current epoch, and possible existence of cutoff and narrow spectral lines as remnants of high-T sources.
We revisit the scenario where inflation is preceded by a radiation era by considering that the inflaton too could have been in thermal equilibrium early in the radiation era. Hence we take into account not only the effect of a pre-inflationary era on the inflaton mode functions but also that of a frozen thermal distribution of inflaton quanta. We initially discuss in detail the issues relevant to our scenario of a pre-inflationary radiation dominated era and then obtain the scalar power spectrum for this scenario. We find that the power spectrum is free from infrared divergences. We then use t…
A dark radiation term arises as a correction to the energy momentum tensor in the simplest five-dimensional RS-II brane-world cosmology. In this paper we revisit the constraints on dark radiation based upon the newest results for light-element nuclear reaction rates, observed light-element abundances and the power spectrum of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). Adding dark radiation during big bang nucleosynthesis alters the Friedmann expansion rate causing the nuclear reactions to freeze out at a different temperature. This changes the final light element abundances at the end of BBN. Its …

We constrain deviations of the form $T\propto (1+z)^{1+ε}$ from the standard redshift-temperature relation, corresponding to modifying distance duality as $D_L=(1+z)^{2(1+ε)} D_A$. We consider a consistent model, in which both the background and perturbation equations are changed. For this purpose, we introduce a species of dark radiation particles to which photon energy density is transferred, and assume $ε\ge0$. The Planck 2015 release high multipole temperature plus low multipole data give the limit $ε<4.5\times 10^{-3}$ at 95% C.L. The main obstacle to improving this CMB-only result is str…
The amplitude of large-scale matter fluctuations inferred from the observed Sunyaev-Zeldovich (SZ) cluster mass function and from weak gravitational lensing studies, when taken at face value, is in tension with measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO). In this work, we revisit whether this possible discrepancy can be attributed to new interactions in the dark matter sector. Focusing on a cosmological model where dark matter interacts with a dark radiation species until the epoch of matter-radiation equality, we find that measurements of the Ly…
We consider theories where dark matter is composed of a thermal relic of weak scale mass, whose couplings to the Standard Model (SM) are however too small to give rise to the observed abundance. Instead, the abundance is set by annihilation to light hidden sector states that carry no charges under the SM gauge interactions. In such a scenario the constraints from direct and indirect detection, and from collider searches for dark matter, can easily be satisfied. The masses of such light hidden states can be protected by symmetry if they are Nambu-Goldstone bosons, fermions, or gauge bosons. The…
The cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation provides a remarkable window onto the early universe, revealing its composition and structure. In these lectures we review and discuss the physics underlying the main features of the CMB.
CMB foregrounds consist of all radiation between the surface of last scattering and the detectors, which can interfere with the cosmological interpretation of CMB data. Fortunately, in temperature (intensity), even though the foregrounds are complex they can relatively easily be mitigated. However, in polarization, diffuse Galactic radiation (synchrotron and thermal dust) can be polarized at a level of >10 % making it more of a challenge. In particular, CMB B-modes, which are a smoking-gun signature of inflation, will be dominated by foregrounds. Component separation will therefore be critical…
Recent Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) results from the Planck satellite, combined with previous CMB data and Hubble constant measurements from the Hubble Space Telescope, provide a constraint on the effective number of relativistic degrees of freedom of Neff=3.62^{+0.50}_{-0.48} at 95% CL. These new measurements provide a unique opportunity to place limits on models containing relativistic species at the decoupling epoch. Here we review the bounds or the allowed parameter regions in sterile neutrino models, hadronic axion models as well as on extended dark sectors with additional light spec…
The changes in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) spectrum seen as an increase of temperature due to a strong magnetic field are determined and their influence on the polarization of the radiation is exhibited. The effect is due to the coupling of the CMB photons to the magnetic field in the QED vacuum via the interaction with virtual pairs. In spite of the fact that the distortion of the CMB spectrum for magnetic fields that exist in the vicinity of magnetars is quite large, this effect is very difficult to detect at present because the required angular resolutions is not yet available.
A cosmological model, in which the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is a thermal radiation of intergalactic dust instead of a relic radiation of the Big Bang, is revived and revisited. The model suggests that a virtually transparent local Universe becomes considerably opaque at redshifts $z > 2-3$. Such opacity is hardly to be detected in the Type Ia supernova data, but confirmed using quasar data. The opacity steeply increases with redshift because of a high proper density of intergalactic dust in the previous epochs. The temperature of intergalactic dust increases as $(1+z)$ and exactly com…
Decaying cold dark matter (CDM) has been considered as a mechanism to tackle the tensions in the Hubble expansion rate and the clustering of matter. However, polarization measurements of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) severely constrain the fraction of dark matter decaying before recombination, and lensing of the CMB anisotropies by large-scale structure set strong constraints on dark matter decaying after recombination. Together, these constraints make an explanation of the Hubble tension in terms of decaying dark matter unlikely. In response to this situation, we investigate whether a…
We exploit the complementarity among supersymmetry, inflation, axions, Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) and Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation (CMB) to constrain supersymmetric axion models in the light of the recent Planck and BICEP results. In particular, we derive BBN bounds coming from altering the light element abundances by taking into account hadronic and electromagnetic energy injection, and CMB constraints from black-body spectrum distortion. Lastly, we outline the viable versus excluded region of these supersymetric models that might account for the mild dark radiation observed.
The recent observation that the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) may prefer a neutrino excess has triggered a number of works studying this possibility. The effect obtained by the non-interacting massless neutrino excess could be mimicked by some extra radiation component in the early universe, such as a cosmological gravitational wave background. Prompted by the fact that a possible candidate to source those gravitational waves would be cosmic strings, we perform a parameter fitting study with models which considers both cosmic strings and the effective number of neutrinos as free parameters…
Several interesting Dark Matter (DM) models invoke a dark sector leading to two types of relic particles, possibly interacting with each other: non-relativistic DM, and relativistic Dark Radiation (DR). These models have interesting consequences for cosmological observables, and could in principle solve problems like the small-scale cold DM crisis, Hubble tension, and/or low $σ_8$ value. Their cosmological behaviour is captured by the ETHOS parametrisation, which includes a DR-DM scattering rate scaling like a power-law of the temperature, $T^n$. Scenarios with $n=0$, $2$, or $4$ can easily be…
We discuss the thermodynamic and dynamical properties of a variable dark energy model with density scaling as $ρ_x \propto (1+z)^{m}$, z being the redshift. These models lead to the creation/disruption of matter and radiation, which affect the cosmic evolution of both matter and radiation components in the Universe. In particular, we have studied the temperature-redshift relation of radiation, which has been constrained using a recent collection of cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature measurements up to $z \sim 3$. We find that, within the uncertainties, the model is indistinguishable…
The standard scenario of cosmology predicts a measurable amount for linear polarization of the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) via Thomson scattering, while through this scenario, the generation of circular polarization is excluded. On the another hand, the circular polarization of CMB has not been excluded in observational evidence. The generation of CMB photons circular polarization via their Compton scattering with polarized cosmic electrons is considered in this paper. Our motivation for considering polarized Compton scattering comes from the effects of the external magnetic fi…
Observations of the 21 cm line radiation coming from the epoch of reionization have a great capacity to study the cosmological growth of the Universe. Also, CMB polarization produced by gravitational lensing has a large amount of information about the growth of matter fluctuations at late time. In this thesis, we investigate their sensitivities to the impact of neutrino property on the growth of density fluctuations, such as the total neutrino mass, the neutrino mass hierarchy, the effective number of neutrino species (extra radiation), and the lepton asymmetry of our Universe. We will show th…
Baryonic gas falling onto a primordial black hole (PBH) emits photons via the free-free process. These photons can contribute the diffuse free-free background radiation in the frequency range of the cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). We show that the intensity of the free-free background radiation from PBHs depends on the mass and abundance of PBHs. In particular, considering the growth of a dark matter (DM) halo around a PBH by non-PBH DM particles strongly enhances the free-free background radiation. Large PBH fraction increase the signal of the free-free emission. However, large P…
We present precision calculations of dark radiation in the form of gravitons coming from Hawking evaporation of spinning primordial black holes (PBHs) in the early Universe. Our calculation incorporates a careful treatment of extended spin distributions of a population of PBHs, the PBH reheating temperature, and the number of relativistic degrees of freedom. We compare our precision results with those existing in the literature, and show constraints on PBHs from current bounds on dark radiation from BBN and the CMB, as well as the projected sensitivity of CMB Stage 4 experiments. As an applica…
The problem under consideration is to determine the change of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) spectral shape due to the thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. We numerically model the spectral intensity of the CMB radiation Comptonized by the hot intergalactic Maxwellian plasma. To this aim, a relativistic Monte Carlo code with photon weights is developed. The code enables us to construct the Comptonized CMB spectrum in a wide energy range. The results are compared with known analytical solutions and previous numerical simulations. We also calculate the angular distributions of the intensity …
We study non-Gaussian properties of the isocurvature perturbations in the dark radiation, which consists of the active neutrinos and extra light species, if exist. We first derive expressions for the bispectra of primordial perturbations which are mixtures of curvature and dark radiation isocurvature perturbations. We also discuss CMB bispectra produced in our model and forecast CMB constraints on the nonlinearity parameters based on the Fisher matrix analysis. Some concrete particle physics motivated models are presented in which large isocurvature perturbations in extra light species and/or …
The formalism of solid state physics has been applied to provide an additional tool for the research of cosmological problems. It is demonstrated how this new approach could be useful in the analysis of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) data. After a transformation of the anisotropy spectrum of relict radiation into a special two-fold reciprocal space it was possible to propose a simple and general description of the interaction of relict photons with the matter by a "relict radiation factor". This factor enabled us to process the transformed CMB anisotropy spectrum by a Fourier transform …
The cosmological recombination radiation (CRR) is one of the inevitable $Λ$CDM spectral distortions of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). While it shows a rich spectral structure across dm-mm wavelengths, it is also one of the smallest signals to target. Here we carry out a detailed forecast for the expected sensitivity levels required to not only detect but also extract cosmological information from the CRR in the presence of foregrounds. We use ${\tt CosmoSpec}$ to compute the CRR including all important radiative transfer effects and modifications to the recombination dynamics. We confi…
We consider the effect of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) frequency spectral distortions arising due to the Compton scattering of the anisotropic radiation on Sunyaev-Zel'dovich (SZ) clusters. We derive the correction to the thermal SZ effect due to the presence of multipoles with $\ell=1,2,3$ in the anisotropy of the CMB radiation. We show that this effect gives us an opportunity for an independent evaluation of the CMB dipole, quadrupole and octupole angular anisotropy in our location using distorted signal from the nearby galaxy clusters and to distinguish between the Sachs-Wolfe (SW)…
We use three domain wall simulations from the radiation era to the late time dark energy domination era based on the PRS algorithm to calculate the energy-momentum tensor components of domain wall networks in an expanding universe. Unequal time correlators in the radiation, matter and cosmological constant epochs are calculated using the scaling regime of each of the simulations. The CMB power spectrum of a network of domain walls is determined. The first ever quantitative constraint for the domain wall surface tension is obtained using a Markov chain Monte Carlo method; an energy scale of dom…
Primordial magnetic fields (PMFs), being present before the epoch of cosmic recombination, induce small-scale baryonic density fluctuations. These inhomogeneities lead to an inhomogeneous recombination process that alters the peaks and heights of the large-scale anisotropies of the cosmic microwave backround (CMB) radiation. Utilizing numerical compressible MHD calculations and a Monte Carlo Markov chain analysis, which compares calculated CMB anisotropies with those observed by the \textit{WMAP} and \textit{Planck} satellites, we derive limits on the magnitude of putative PMFs. We find that t…
We have considered the formation of the luminescent subordinate HeI lines by the absorption of continuum radiation from a source in the lines of the main HeI series in the expanding Universe. It is suggested that at some moment of time, corresponding to the redshift $z_{0}$, a burst of superequilibrium blackbody radiation with a temperature $ T+ΔT $ occurs. This radiation is partially absorbed at different $z <z_{0}$ in the lines of the main HeI series and then converted into the radiation of subordinate lines. If $ ν_{ij} $ is the laboratory frequency of the transition of some subordinate lin…
Certain modified gravity theories predict the existence of an additional, non-conformally coupled scalar field. A disformal coupling of the field to the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is shown to affect the evolution of the energy density in the radiation fluid and produces a modification of the distribution function of the CMB, which vanishes if photons and baryons couple in the same way to the scalar. We find the constraints on the couplings to matter and photons coming from the measurement of the CMB temperature evolution and from current upper limits on the $μ$--distortion of the CMB sp…
Fluctuations in the cosmic neutrino background are known to produce a phase shift in the acoustic peaks of the cosmic microwave background. It is through the sensitivity to this effect that the recent CMB data has provided a robust detection of free-streaming neutrinos. In this paper, we revisit the phase shift of the CMB anisotropy spectrum as a probe of new physics. The phase shift is particularly interesting because its physical origin is strongly constrained by the analytic properties of the Green's function of the gravitational potential. For adiabatic fluctuations, a phase shift requires…
Many attempts to solve the Hubble tension with extended cosmological models combine an enhanced relic radiation density, acting at the level of background cosmology, with new physical ingredients affecting the evolution of cosmological perturbations. Several authors have pointed out the ability of combined Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) and Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) data to probe the background cosmological history independently of both CMB maps and supernovae data. Using state-of-the-art assumptions on BBN, we confirm that combined BAO, deuterium, and helium data are in tension with t…
According to the standard cosmology, near the last scattering surface, the photons scattered via Compton scattering are just linearly polarized and then the primordial circular polarization of the CMB photons is zero. In this work we show that CMB polarization acquires a small degree of circular polarization when a background magnetic field is considered or the quantum electrodynamic sector of standard model is extended by Lorentz-noninvariant operators as well as noncommutativity. The existence of circular polarization for the CMB radiation may be verified during future observation programs a…
Astrophysical magnetic fields decay primarily via two processes namely, ambipolar diffusion and turbulence. Constraints on the strength and the spectral index of non-helical magnetic fields have been derived earlier in the literature through the effect of the above mentioned processes on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. A helical component of the magnetic field is also produced in various models of magnetogenesis, which can explain larger coherence length magnetic field. In this study, we focus on studying the effects of post recombination decay of maximally helical magnetic fi…
The thermodynamic and dynamical properties of a variable dark energy model with density scaling as rho_x \propto (1+z)^m, z being the redshift, are discussed following the outline of Jetzer et al. This kind of models are proven to lead to the creation/disruption of matter and radiation, which affect the cosmic evolution of both matter and radiation components in the Universe. In particular, we have concentrated on the temperature-redshift relation of radiation, which has been constrained using a very recent collection of cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature measurements up to z ~ 3. F…
Recent analyses that include cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy measurements from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and the South Pole Telescope have hinted at the presence of a dark radiation component at more than two standard deviations. However, this result depends sensitively on the assumption of an HST prior on the Hubble constant, where $H_0=73.8\pm2.4$ km/s/Mpc at 68% c.l.. From a median statistics (MS) analysis of 537 non-CMB $H_0$ measurements from Huchra's compilation we derive $H_0=68 \pm2.8$ km/s/Mpc at 68% c.l., in good agreement with the results of a recent analysis of t…
The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is the oldest light in the universe. It is seen today as black body radiation at a near-uniform temperature of 2.73K covering the entire sky. This radiation field is not perfectly uniform, but includes within it temperature anisotropies of order delta(T)/T ~ 10E-5. Physical processes in the early universe have left their fingerprints in these CMB anisotropies, which later grew to become the galaxies and large scale structure we see today. CMB anisotropy observations are thus a key tool for cosmology. The Planck Mission was the European Space Agency's (ESA)…
Primordial magnetic fields present since before the epoch of matter-radiation equality have an effect on the anisotropies of the cosmic microwave background. The CMB anisotropies due to scalar perturbations are calculated in the gauge invariant formalism for magnetized adiabatic initial conditions. Furthermore the linear matter power spectrum is calculated. Numerical solutions are complemented by a qualitative analysis.
The scattering of cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation in galaxy clusters induces polarization signals according to the quadrupole anisotropy in the photon distribution at the cluster location. This `remote quadrupole' derived from the measurements of the induced polarization provides an opportunity for reconstructing primordial fluctuations on large scales. We discuss that comparing the local CMB quadrupoles predicted by these reconstructed primordial fluctuations and the direct measurements done by CMB satellites may enable us to test the dark energy beyond cosmic variance limits.
