We present an exact solution for a non-BPS charged rotating black ring endowed with a dipole charge in the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity. Utilizing the electric Harrison transformation, we derive this solution by converting a five-dimensional vacuum solution into a charged solution within the realm of five-dimensional minimal supergravity. As the seed solution for the Harrison transformation, we use a vacuum solution of a rotating black ring possessing a Dirac-Misner string singularity. The resulting solution exhibits regularity, indicating the absence of curvature singularities, conical singularities, orbifold singularities, Dirac-Misner string singularities, and closed timelike curves both on and outside the horizon. This obtained solution carries mass, two angular momenta, an electric charge, and a dipole charge, with only three of these quantities being independent, similar to the charged rotating dipole black ring found previously by Elvang, Emparan and Figueras. However, aside from the vacuum case, these two solutions do not coincide. We discuss the difference between them in the phase space.
We generate charged black brane solutions in $D-$dimensions in a theory of gravity coupled to a dilaton and an antisymmetric form, by using a Harrison-type transformation. The seed vacuum solutions that we use correspond to uplifted Kaluza-Klein black strings and black holes in $(D-p)$-dimensions. A generalization of the Marolf-Mann quasilocal formalism to the Kaluza-Klein theory is also presented, the global charges of the black objects being computed in this way. We argue that the thermodynamics of the charged solutions can be derived from that of the vacuum configurations. Our results show …
We investigate the holographic fermions in the charged Gauss-Bonnet $AdS_{d}$ black hole background with the dipole coupling between fermion and gauge field in the bulk. We show that in addition to the strength of the dipole coupling, the spacetime dimension and the higher curvature correction in the gravity background also influence the onset of the Fermi gap and the gap distance. We find that the higher curvature effect modifies the fermion spectral density and influences the value of the Fermi momentum for the appearance of the Fermi surface. There are richer physics in the boundary fermion…
We show a uniqueness theorem for charged dipole rotating black rings in the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity, generalizing our previous work [arXiv:0901.4724] on the uniqueness of charged rotating black holes with topologically spherical horizon in the same theory. More precisely, assuming the existence of two commuting axial Killing vector fields, we prove that an asymptotically flat, stationary charged rotating black hole with non-degenerate connected event horizon of cross-section topology S^1XS^2 in the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory-if exists-…
In this note, we study the dipole coupling effect of holographic fermion in a charged dilatonic black hole proposed by Gubser and Rocha (arXiv:0911.2898). It is found that the property of Fermi liquid is rigid under perturbation of dipole coupling, and the Fermi momentum is linearly shifted. A gap is dynamically generated as the coupling becomes large enough and the Fermi surface ceases to exist as the bulk dipole coupling further increases.
We present a new asymptotically flat, doubly spinning black ring of D = 5 Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory with Kaluza-Klein dilaton coupling. Besides the mass and two angular momenta, the solution displays both electric charge and (magnetic) dipole charge. The class of solutions that are free from conical singularities is described by four parameters. We first derive the solution in six dimensions employing the inverse scattering method, thereby generalising the inverse-scattering construction by two of the current authors of Emparan's singly spinning dipole black ring. The novel black ring it…
We report a dynamical formation of a (Mott) gap from holographic fermions. By coupling a fermion field with dipole action to the charged dilaton black branes with a Lifshitz like IR geometry and $AdS_{4}$ boundary, we find that when the dipole interaction is large enough, spectral weight is transferred between bands, and beyond a critical dipole interaction, a gap emerges in the fermion density of states. The value of the gap becomes larger as the strength of the interaction keeps increasing.
We study the holographic non-relativistic fermions in the presence of bulk dipole coupling in charged dilatonic black hole background. We explore the nontrivial effects of the bulk dipole coupling, the fermion charge as well as the dilaton field on the flat band, the Fermi surface and the emergence of the gap by investigating the spectral function of the non-relativistic fermion system. In particular, we find that the presence of the flat band in the non-relativistic case will suppress the Fermi momentum. Besides, we observe that the effect of the dipole coupling in the dilaton gravity is more…
Using the blackfold approach, we study new classes of higher-dimensional rotating black holes with electric charges and string dipoles, in theories of gravity coupled to a 2-form or 3-form field strength and to a dilaton with arbitrary coupling. The method allows to describe not only black holes with large angular momenta, but also other regimes that include charged black holes near extremality with slow rotation. We construct explicit examples of electric rotating black holes of dilatonic and non-dilatonic Einstein-Maxwell theory, with horizons of spherical and non-spherical topology. We also…
We present the general black ring solution in $U(1)^{3}$ supergravity in 5 dimensions with three independent dipole and electric charges. This immediately gives the general black ring solution in the minimal 5D supergravity as well.
Stationary axisymmetric metric describing the exterior field of a rotating, charged sphere endowed with magnetic dipole moment is presented and discussed. It has a remarkably simple multipole structure defined by only four nonzero Hoenselaers-Perjés relativistic moments.
We construct static, nonextremal black hole solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equations in $d=6,7$ spacetime dimensions, with an event horizon of $S^2\times S^{d-4}$ topology. These configurations are asymptotically flat, the U(1) field being purely magnetic, with a spherical distribution of monopole charges but no net charge measured at infinity. They can be viewed as generalizations of the $d=5$ static dipole black ring, sharing its basic properties, in particular the presence of a conical singularity. The magnetized version of these solutions is constructed by applying a Harrison transforma…
We present a dipole-charged generalisation of the Pomeransky-Sen'kov black ring in five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory. It rotates in two independent directions, although one of the rotations has been tuned to achieve balance, so that the space-time does not contain any conical singularities. This solution was constructed using the inverse-scattering method in six-dimensional vacuum gravity. We then study various physical properties of this solution, with particular emphasis on the new features that the dipole charge introduces.
General charged black ring solution with two angular momenta, a charge and a dipole charge is found by the inverse scattering method. The solution is presented in a relatively concise form in which its symmetries are manifest. The regularity conditions are found and the physical characteristics of the regular solution are expressed via its parameters.
We consider the quantum mechanics of a spinless charged particle on a 2-dimensional sphere. When threaded with a magnetic monopole field, this is the well-known Haldane sphere that furnishes a translationally-invariant, incompressible quantum fluid state of a gas of electrons confined to the sphere. This letter presents the results of a novel variant of the Haldane solution where the monopole field is replaced by that of a dipole. We argue that this system is relevant to the physics on the surface of compact astrophysical objects like neutron stars.
We use solution-generating techniques to construct interpolating geometries between general asymptotically flat, charged, rotating, non-extremal black holes in four and five dimensions and their subtracted geometries. In the four-dimensional case, this is achieved by the use of Harrison transformations, whereas in the five-dimensional case we use STU transformations. We also give the interpretation of these solution-generating transformations in terms of string (pseudo)-dualities, showing that they correspond to combinations of T-dualities and Melvin twists. Upon uplift to one dimension higher…
Recently, we have discussed the coexistence of a finite energy one-half monopole and a 't Hooft-Polyakov monopole of opposite magnetic charges. In this paper, we would like to introduce electric charge into this new monopoles configuration, thus creating a one and a half dyon. This new dyon possesses finite energy, magnetic dipole moment and angular momentum and is able to precess in the presence of an external magnetic field. Similar to the other dyon solutions, when the Higgs self-coupling constant, $λ$, is nonvanishing, this new dyon solution possesses critical electric charge, total energy…

We holographically investigate the effects of a dipole coupling between a fermion field and a $U(1)$ gauge field on the dual fermionic sector in the charged gravity bulk with hyperscaling violation. We analytically study the features of the ultraviolet and infrared Green's functions of the dual fermionic system and we show that as the dipole coupling and the hyperscaling violation exponent are varied, the fluid possess Fermi, marginal Fermi, non-Fermi liquid phases and also an additional Mott insulating phase. We find that the increase of the hyperscaling violation exponent which effectively r…

The Dirac equation for an electron in a finite dipole potential has been studied within the method of linear combination of atomic orbitals (LCAO). The Coulomb potential of the nuclei that compose a dipole is regularized, by considering the finite nuclear size. It is shown that if the dipole momentum reaches a certain critical value, the novel type of supercriticality occurs; namely, the wave function of the highest occupied electron bound state changes its localization from the negatively charged nucleus to the positively charged one. This phenomenon can be interpreted as a spontaneous creati…
In the background of a charged AdS black hole, we consider a Dirac particle endowed with an arbitrary magnetic dipole moment. For non-zero charge and dipole coupling of the bulk fermion, we find that the dual boundary theory can be plagued with superluminal modes. Requiring consistency of the dual CFT amounts to constraining the strength of the dipole coupling by an upper bound. We briefly discuss the implications of our results for the physics of holographic non-Fermi liquids.
We use the recently-constructed explicit duality transformation that relates a rotating anti-D6-D4-D2-D0 black hole solution to a rotating M5-M2-P black string to construct a non-supersymmetric black ring in Taub-NUT that has two angular momenta, as well as M2 charges and M5 dipole moments. This is the first black ring solution that has both dipole charges and rotation along the S^2 of the horizon, and hence can be thought of as the "Pomeransky-Senkov" version of the M5-M2 black ring in Taub-NUT. Its physics should provide a testing ground for the applicability of the blackfold approach to cha…
In dipole-dipole scattering at large rapidity χ={\rm ln}(s/s_0), the induced instanton on the string worldsheet carries entropy S_k=2(α_{Pk}-1)χwith α_{Pk}-1 the pomeron intercept for a dipole source of N-ality k. This stringy entropy is neither coherent nor thermal. We argue that it is released promptly over a time t_R\approx (b / χ)^3 / (4 α') with α'/2 the pomeron slope and b the impact parameter. This stringy entropy may explain the 3/2 jump in the total charged multiplicities at about 10 participants reported over a wide range of collider energies by PHOBOS. We predict the charged multipl…
It is demonstrated, owing to the nonlinearity of QED, that a static charge placed in a strong magnetic field\ $B$\ is a magnetic dipole (besides remaining an electric monopole, as well). Its magnetic moment grows linearly with $B$ as long as the latter remains smaller than the characteristic value of $1.2\cdot 10^{13}\unit{G}$ but tends to a constant as $B$ exceeds that value. The force acting on a densely charged object by the dipole magnetic field of a neutron star is estimated.
